Hi open source enthusiasts and FOSDEM crew, Have any of you thought about the representation of Android at the FOSDEM 2010 event? Android open source related development is still slim in comparison with other projects, but this might change fast and many people might be interested in getting started on Android. Could this warrant a small presence, in the form of a dev room or a stand? There are three components to Android that are of interest to FOSDEM: - The open source Android OS itself. Might even want to try to get Google/OHA members involved somehow. - Open source apps written for Android. Projects certainly exist but are often still in an inception phase. See https://launchpad.net/+search?field.text=android , http://www.ohloh.net/search?q=android , http://code.google.com/intl/nl-BE/search/#q=android , or search yourself. - Android ROM modding. +1 certainly interested. One problem is that there are typically more requests for "dev rooms" than there are rooms available. Getting a "table" on the other hand should be fairly easy. Peter

This has been going down very well at Linux Tag in Berlin and so any further extension on that at Fosdem should do a lot of good. I'll look forward to any mobile communications stuff at Fosdem :) -- Richard www.sheflug.org.uk
Hi pjv, Thank you for your ideas, that's really appreciated. Android is a new platform that has a huge potential. Google is doing everything it can to promote application development with ADC1 and ADC2 serving as perfect examples. Very soon a call for papers/participation will be published on our website. This way people will be able to submit a talk or even propose a speaker. So if you know people active in Android-based software development you'll be able to propose them) (this is a combination of call-for-papers and the brainstorm of the last two years) I'm working myself on a Android based schedule-application for the conference. So if you're the happy owner of an Android powered phone/device you'll also enjoy an offline searchable schedule with maps.
