big rooms for popular subjects with popular speakers please
Hello, Sorry for the rant (because I could not get in), but I think James Turnbull should get a room with a capacity of +500 people at least. He wrote several books and as a plus his talk is about docker which is fresh new and also popular. Thanks, Joost
Hello, We have had a similar problem with Lennart Poettering in the Desktops DevRoom: room capacity is 150, we had at least 30 people standing on the aisles, and we had at least 100 people waiting to get into the room. To a lesser scale (20-30 people outside), it also happened to other talks in Desktops (GStreamer, Gnome 3, and more). On Sat, Feb 1, 2014 at 2:20 PM, Joost Ringoot <joost@ringoot.org> wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Sorry to tell you, but this happens to basically *every* devroom. In the games devroom we could easily find >100 people interested in each of the talks. Yet we only have a room capable of 74 people and need to stop people from entering due to fire regulations. This is something that happens every year and will not change simply because there are not enough large rooms at any place since I guess every project could get more people in. Be happy with what you got and be extremely happy that there are livestreams and videorecordings this year. If you have speakers who could easily fill rooms for 500 people: Ask them to try to get one of the main track talks. Those usually have the largest rooms. Someone might attract too many people for a "normal" developer room talk... Cheers, Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic, live from the games devroom Am 01.02.2014 14:40, schrieb Pau Garcia i Quiles:

So did several other speakers (probably?). Honestly: this is a problem we can't fix. We try to schedule "popular presentations" in appropriately large rooms, but on some level, all presentations are popular. It's impossible to please everybody. Scheduling 22 rooms in parallel is Really Difficult. We are (trying to?) record everything this year. Apart from the fact that that's just a really cool thing to do, we also hoped that that would spread the load factor of the rooms a bit. To be evaluated, etc. Be positive, be open minded. If a room is full ... there are others? You can watch the recording at home. Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information
Hey folks, the rooms are fine and the talks are being streamed, and recorded for later. There is always going to be a room that is more packed than another it just happens. There has to be a limit at some point. I will say, it would be a lot of help to get people to move in on seats that are sitting on the outside, or 3 seats in and then leaving an entire row unoccupied. I saw that a lot this morning in James talk to be honest. People could have sat down if others had moved in off the side of rows! Having the streaming and recording this year is really, really awesome. To all organisers, Once again it is good to be here, there is a happy atmosphere. We learn a lot, we meet our heroes. I know you as organisers are actually missing the event by working for it.
