Call for Participation: Open Media devroom 2027
Hello everyone, The Open Media devroom returns at FOSDEM 2027, and we are looking for talk proposals. FOSDEM is one of the largest gatherings of Free and Open Source Software contributors in the world and happens every February in Brussels (Belgium, Europe). This year, the Open Media devroom will take place (in-person) in the morning of January 30th, 2027 (2027-01-30). About the Open Media devroom The Open Media room will focus on all Free & Open Source media projects, including software and hardware, spanning from building audio & video applications, through standards, formats, codecs, video analytics and search to Web video, IPTV, broadcasting and radio practices and much more. If you're interested in video, image or audio technologies, and the breadth of available open source technologies and communities for media - the Open Media room is for you! If you want to check if you'd fit in, take a look at previous year's sessions: https://archive.fosdem.org/2026/schedule/track/open-media-devroom/ Submit your talk proposals here: https://fosdem.org/submit Make sure to pick "Open Media" as the "track" when submitting, so that it goes to the right place. We will accept proposals until at least November 30th, but please don't wait until the last moment to submit your talk: the sooner the better! Your submission must include the following information - The title of your talk (please be descriptive) - An abstract: a short (single paragraph) text detailing what the talk will discuss, and why attendees should attend it - Feel free to put anything you think might be important for us to know when considering your talk in "Submission notes". It would be highly appreciated if you put the minimum and maximum duration for your talk in this field as well, so we can plan as efficiently as possible. We have half a day available, and plan to accept talks of either 15 or 30 minutes in length, including (optional) questions. Shorter talks have a better chance of being accepted (we can fit more of them, after all!), but rest assured that our main selection criteria will be content/subject and we will ask speakers to adjust their talk length rather than rejecting outright for length reasons. Telling us the min/max length your talk could be in the "submission notes" section allows us to give everyone as much time as possible without wasting any. Selected talks will be notified December 7th, 2026 at the latest - we will do our best to notify earlier if at all possible. All sessions will be recorded and be made available under CC-BY license by FOSDEM at https://video.fosdem.org/ . Your talk must be presented in Brussels in-person in the morning of January 30th, 2027 (2027-01-30). (Speaker substitutions are possible if/as needed.) Contact The primary means of reaching the devroom organisers is emailing open-media-devroom-manager@fosdem.org. You can also find us on IRC at #fosdem-open-media on libera.chat, or feel free to send me personally an email. Please don't hesitate to reach out for more information!
