[devroom-managers] Call for Participation: Network devroom at FOSDEM 2027
We are pleased to announce the Call for Participation for the FOSDEM 2027 Network Devroom The FOSDEM Network devroom features a wide array of presentations focused on open-source networking technologies and initiatives. Designed with a broad scope, this session is tailored for software engineering professionals who build, monitor, manage, and design network architectures using open-source tools. Our schedule generally includes a diverse lineup of presentations covering areas such as: - Routing and Communication Protocols (spanning the entire technical landscape). - Traffic Monitoring, Telemetry, and System Observability. - Network Automation, Administration, and Configuration (tailored for corporate, telecom, cloud-native, and IoT environments). - Information Security (encompassing intrusion prevention, threat detection, deep-packet analysis, and post-quantum defenses). - Software Development Kits and Tools (including libraries, APIs, and eBPF integrations). - Data Plane Engineering and Core Networking Architecture. Suggested Topics ================ If it routes, inspects, or manages network data packets, we want it on our stage! A brief, non-comprehensive overview of the initiatives and concepts we are eager to feature includes: - Monitoring and Observability: OpenTelemetry, AI-driven anomaly detection, eBPF-based metrics - Programmable Data Planes: XDP/eBPF, DPDK, FD.io/VPP, P4, Grout, PF_RING - AI & Backend Cluster Networking: RoCEv2, InfiniBand, Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) standards, UALink, GPU-to-GPU networking acceleration - Routing and Switching: FRRouting, BIRD, OVN, Open vSwitch, EVPN, SRv6, Segment Routing over IPv6 - Security and Visibility: Zeek, Suricata, nDPI, Wazuh, CrowdSec, TLS 1.3/QUIC visibility, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) in transit - Scanning and Testing: nmap, zmap, TRex, Scapy, OpenVAS, automated network verification - Telco & Edge: free5GC, Open5GS, Nephio, O-RAN, MEC, 5G/6G core infrastructures - Tunneling and Secure Connectivity: WireGuard, IPsec, strongSwan, Tailscale/Headscale mechanisms - Decentralized & P2P: libp2p, Matrix, IPFS, DHTs, decentralized routing - Tooling & Automation: NetDevOps, network emulation (Containerlab), Network Digital Twins, CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure-as-code - Hardware Offloads & Silicon: SmartNICs, IPUs/DPUs, P4 programmable switches, open-source hardware networking Presentations should be tailored for a technical crowd, but you should not assume that listeners already know your project or its underlying mechanics. Submissions can dive deep into granular, highly specialized fixes for a particular issue, or they can provide a broader, high-level introduction to emerging or lesser-known projects. To ensure a diverse agenda, we will give priority to new speakers who have not presented at past FOSDEM editions, as well as fresh topics that have not been covered recently. Our goal is to balance the accepted papers across various fields to prevent any single topic from monopolizing the event. Important Dates =============== Submission open: October 27th, 2026 Submission deadline: November 30th, 2026 Acceptance notifications: December 4th, 2026 Final schedule announcement: December 7th, 2026 Devroom: January 30th, 2027 Proposals ========= We invite short (20–25 min) talks, demos, and lightning talks (5–10 min) showcasing open-source tools, frameworks, standards, or community experiences. Hands-on, cross-project, and collaboration-focused proposals are especially encouraged. Please use the following URL to submit your talk to FOSDEM 2027: https://fosdem.org/submit Please follow these rules: * FOSDEM uses pretalx for submissions. If you don't have an account yet, you will need to create one. * Select as the Track "Network devroom" * Include a title and an abstract. Please be concise, but clear and descriptive. * Specify additional speaker email (if any). The co-speaker will need to create an account in order to be visible on the agenda. Code of Conduct =============== We'd like to remind all speakers and attendees that all of the presentations and discussions in our devroom are held under the guidelines set in the CoC and we expect attendees, speakers, and volunteers to follow the CoC at all times. If you submit a proposal and it is accepted, you will be required to confirm that you accept the FOSDEM CoC. If you have any questions about the CoC or wish to have one of the devroom organisers review your presentation slides or any other content for CoC compliance, please email us and we will do our best to assist you.
