FOSDEM 2025 takes place in Brussels, Belgium on <b>February 1st-2nd, 2025.

Join us to discuss, share, and build with Swift at FOSDEM.
This page contains information about the DevRoom's Call for Proposals and any additional information you might find useful in preparation for FOSDEM this year.
What is FOSDEM?

FOSDEM is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas and collaborate.
It provides free and open source software developers and communities a place to meet to:

get in touch with other developers and projects;
be informed about the latest developments in the free software world;
be informed about the latest developments in the open source world;
attend interesting talks and presentations on various topics by project leaders and committers;
to promote the development and benefits of free software and open source solutions.

To learn more about FOSDEM and Developer Rooms, check out FOSDEM's About page.

What are Developer Rooms?

It is important for free and open source software developers around the world to be able to meet in
“real life”.

DevRooms are a place for teams to discuss, hack and publicly present latest directions, lightning talks,
news and discussions. The Swift DevRoom will have some structured presentations and lightning talks; however
we also expect it to be a place for informal discussions.

We are excited for Swift to host a DevRoom where contributors can exchange ideas with other open source projects.

Call for Proposals

Call for proposals runs until November 30th.

Format and topics

The Swift DevRoom is inviting proposals for two presentation types: 20 minute talks or 5 minute lightning talks.

The committee welcomes a broad range of talk proposals. We are interested in hosting a wide variety of topics where Swift shines,
and give contributors a chance to exchange ideas and show off their hard work! Great topics for presentations might be
related to:

Demos and experience reports using Swift on Linux, embedded systems, with WebAssembly or other use cases
Interoperability between Swift and other languages or tools
Interesting projects, use cases, and open source packages that involve Swift
Type system and language design
High-performance networking
Asynchronous programming patterns and techniques
Performance profiling and debugging techniques
Large-scale distributed systems and observability
Swift as a tool for scientific research and in academia
Teaching students programming concepts with Swift
Growing diversity and accessibility to the Swift ecosystem for new contributors

How to submit a proposal?

Submissions must be made through the FOSDEM C4P system.
Make sure to select Swift as the track for your submission, so it is routed to the correct organizing committee.

Include the length of the talk (talk, or lightning talk) in the Submission notes field.
If you have other ideas that might not fit these format, please feel free to add this information in Submission notes as well.

Feel free to include any supporting links or information in Submission notes.

If you have any additional needs or accommodations to enable you to participate, please mention them in the Submission notes field.

Schedule
The track schedule will be published on the FOSDEM website: Schedule / Track / Swift.
