# FOSS on Mobile devroom @ FOSDEM 2026
We are happy to once again announce that the FOSS on Mobile
Devroom is taking place at FOSDEM 2026 and are calling on you
for participation!

- 2025-10-30 - Call for Proposals opened
- 2025-12-01 - Submission deadline
- 2025-12-10 - Acceptance notification
- 2025-12-15 - FOSDEM Schedule published
- 2026-01-31 - Devroom taking place all day Saturday

## What is this devroom about?
This devroom is about FOSS on mobile devices: Linux based
operating systems built on the Android Open Source Project
(AOSP), postmarketOS, Mobian, Sailfish, Ubuntu Touch and others.
Mobile includes phones, automotive (AAOS), and also related
static devices such as TVs.
We aim at bringing together mobile app developers, OEMs, and
custom ROM builders in a combined effort to maintain and foster
the ethos of the ecosystem through research, experimental
projects, and new forms of collaboration.
## Topics sought
FOSS on Mobile really is a whole universe ranging from the
hardware all the way to the user interface. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
- Booting, bootloaders including secure boot and boot time
optimisation
- Linux kernel developments
- Mainline device support and hardware enablement
- Device drivers and device driver upstreaming
- Getting and building the AOSP code base
- Software Distribution for mobile devices
- AOSP customisation
- User interfaces and user-facing code
- Mobile application ecosystems and user experience
- How to link to back-end services: location, push
notifications and more
- Legal and ethical challenges in the Linux mobile ecosystem
- Sustainability and extending the community

## Submission details
We offer the following formats/time slots this year:
- Lightning talk: 10 minutes; ideal for quickly introducing a
project, giving a short status update etc
- Regular slot: 25 minutes including Q&A; the default
We can also exceptionally consider longer 40 minutes slots, for
in-depth presentation or BoFs (please explain in your submission
why you prefer a long slot).

- Choose the "FOSS on mobile devices" track
- Please don't submit to multiple tracks, rather try choosing
the most appropriate on and/or reach out to us.
- Fill out the form: **Please note** that most information such
as abstract and description will become available on the
FOSDEM homepage if your submission gets accepted.
- Uploading a photograph and writing a short biography is
encouraged.
- Please mention the expected duration of your talk, including
Q&A.
