# Call for Participation: AT Protocol Devroom at FOSDEM 2027 ## About the AT Protocol devroom AT Protocol, also nicknamed Atproto, is a protocol which allows the creation of new social experiments by providing a modular system around identity, data and interoperability. Originally developed by Bluesky PBC for its microblogging app, it now serves millions of users through a network of applications and services called the Atmosphere, and is continuously evolving and growing with new capabilities and upgrades ranging from large-scale data replay to private community spaces and shared formats across apps. The AT Protocol devroom is dedicated to talks around the apps built on the protocol, infrastructure and development of the protocol itself, as well as the community shaping the Atmosphere, and beyond. We encourage people to apply regardless of their background, gender, or how much speaking experience they have, and aim to curate an agenda with varying perspectives and backgrounds. ## Suggested topics - Applications: what cool application did you build? - Data that isn't public by default: private records, group-scoped and shared data, and what changes for an application when not everything is on the firehose. - Running the infrastructure: self-hosting a PDS, relays, AppViews, feed generators, labelers. What are your stories? - Protocol: new features like permissioned spaces. - Development: independent implementations of protocol components, SDKs, and libraries in different programming languages. - Moderation: what is your opinion or usage of the stackable moderation and labeling systems? - Account portability and data ownership: what actually works today and what is still missing. - Interoperability and bridges: atproto and ActivityPub and other open social protocols. - Governance: specification processes, and the path toward an ecosystem with multiple independent stewards. - Research, measurement, and analysis of the network. - Critical perspectives: where atproto's design falls short and what should change. - And more! Please don't hesitate to suggest a talk that relates to AT Protocol even beyond the suggested topics. We welcome talks from protocol implementers, application developers, infrastructure operators, researchers, and community members. Talks from people who are skeptical of the design are as welcome as talks from people building on it. Demos and lessons-learned talks are strongly encouraged over roadmap presentations. ## Submitting a talk We offer two talk lengths: - Standard slots are 25 minutes, including time for Q&A. - Lightning talk slots are 13 minutes, including time for Q&A. Because of the large number of new apps developed every month using the protocol, we recommend the lightning slots for talks and presentations on projects you've developed, and the longer standard slot for deeper takes on the protocol, its infrastructure, development and surrounding community. We prioritise talks that have not been previously held or submitted to other conferences, and aim to produce a diverse spread of perspectives. We encourage both first-time speakers and AT Protocol veterans to submit talks. ## Important dates - November 20 , 23:59 EET: CfP closes - December 4 : Speakers notified - December 7 : Devroom schedule published ## How to submit a talk 1. Go to [FOSDEM pretalx]( https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2027/cfp ). 2. Select "AT Protocol" from the Track dropdown menu. 3. In the submission notes, tell us which talk length you're interested in (25 minutes or 13 minutes). 4. Make sure to submit your proposal by November 20 , 23:59 EET. ## Code of Conduct We expect all speakers and attendees to follow the [FOSDEM Code of Conduct]( https://fosdem.org/2027/practical/conduct/ ) in all parts of the devroom, from talks, questions and discussions to every other interaction. ## Contact us You can reach AT protocol devroom managers Viivi Marttinen and Édouard Paris at at-protocol-devroom-manager@fosdem.org in all questions related to the devroom, including volunteering in the room.
