SMTP is blocked on the university's network. It's their policy, not ours. This is a common practice to avoid people sending spam from the university's internet connection.
One way to bypass it is to tunnel your SMTP connection through an SSH connection...
Or be a nice Netizen and use SMTPS and SASL authentication with your mail provider ;) It worked all weekend for me without reconfiguration. Edwin
