We are excited to announce the Call for Participation for the Package Management devroom at FOSDEM 2027, taking place on 31 Jan 2027, from 13:15 to 17:00, at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. 【 About the Devroom 】 Package managers are critical infrastructure for developers and end users alike, handling dependency resolution, software supply chain security, reproducibility, provenance, and long-term maintainability. The Free and Open Source community has built dozens of package managers across operating systems (apt, pacman, Nix), programming language ecosystems (PyPI, pip, uv, RubyGems, Conda, Pixi), domain-specific tools (Spack, EasyBuild for HPC), and universal formats (Flatpak, Snap, AppImage). Each has its unique trade-offs and innovations. But as ecosystems proliferate, package managers face recurring challenges: dependency solving, namespace collisions, supply chain security, phantom dependencies, reproducibility, metadata standards, cross-ecosystem dependencies, and cryptographic signing of artifacts. In this past year, new challenges have appeared: an unprecedented rise in package submissions due to LLM usage, and novel supply chain attacks, amid systemic underfunding and shifting governance. This devroom provides a gathering place for maintainers, researchers, and users of package managers to make more progress together than they could have individually; a place to foster collaboration and discuss lessons learned, new developments, and shared challenges. 【 Submission Guidelines 】 We can't wait to see your submissions, at a time when package management and supply chain security are more important than ever. We welcome talks on any topic that contains a substantial technical focus on package management and software infrastructure. We especially encourage submissions on under-discussed topics, and submissions from individuals and communities underrepresented in Free and Open Source software. Topics that are frequently discussed elsewhere, such as augmenting existing security approaches using AI, will be deprioritised. We also do not accept talks that primarily promote products. Important dates: ※ 25 Oct 2026 Call for proposals opens ※ 01 Dec 2026 Submissions close at 23:59 UTC ※ 04 Dec 2026 Selected speakers notified ※ 07 Dec 2026 Schedule published Some things to remember during talk submission: ※ Please select “Package Management” as the track in the dropdown menu. ※ We suggest including a list of related previous work, and a brief bio, for each speaker. ※ Talks will be 20 minutes long by default, but if you would like a 10 minute slot, please let us know in the “Submission Notes” field and we should be able to accommodate it. ※ By submitting, you agree to follow the FOSDEM Code of Conduct (https://fosdem.org/2027/practical/conduct/). Submit your proposal through pretalx: https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2027/cfp If you have any questions about the devroom or your submission, please email us at: package-management-devroom-manager@fosdem.org We're looking forward to your proposals! — The devroom organizers Andrew Nesbitt, Software Stewardship Lab Vlad Miricioiu, Software Stewardship Lab Wolf Vollprecht, prefix.dev Travis Hathaway, Anaconda
