HI All Every year we have requests of where to obtain a sim card for mobile data while in belgium We've talked to a cellphone operator (mobile-vikings) and they have agreed to ship sim cards to hotels so they will be waiting for you when you arrive there they've promised to make some extra efforts for FOSDEM visitors. SO if you need a mobile SIM please contact mobile vikings at https://mobilevikings.com/en/ and tell them to ship the sim to your hotel Kind regards Wouter Simons
As there has been a lot of discussion around this topic in person, on IRC, and Twitter: What is the pricing plan? Will we be stuck in year-long contracts? Or are those free and limited for the weekend? Data connectivity while there would be a welcome thing, indeed. Richard

Their normal pricing plan for data-only is quite simple: 12 € prepaid for 2 GiB of data, valid for 30 days. And if you keep it until next year, you can probably reuse it by paying 12 € again... (I'm not sure how long they keep inactive SIMs activated though?) -- Jan Claeys

Or simply pick up a medion mobile starterkit (10 euros) at the nearest Aldi, request a 400MB data bundle and you still have 6 euros over for calling, which (depending on your needs) might be a better deal.. http://www.medionmobile.be/nl/web/ -- Bye, Peter Korsgaard
Sorry forgot to mention it in an attempt to keep my mail short and to the point .. it's a pre-paid card, not a subscription on a full card you get a free 2GB data traffic (valid 1 month) every time you recharge it (rates are on their frontpage) on a data only card, it comes with 2 gig data trafic for 1 month on it, and recharge (12 euro) gives you the same again hope this clears up some issues Greetz Wouter 2012/1/26 Peter Korsgaard <jacmet@sunsite.dk>:

I can tell you that Mobile Vikings is a prepayed card for everyone. You'll have to pay for an entire month (€15), but that is non-recurring. I think (but maybe Wouter cut you some better deal) you also have to pay €15 for the sim card. It might be better for you to go to a random BASE shop in Belgium and get a free JimMobile prepayed card. If you put €10 on it you can activate 500MB data for €5, and have €5 left to call. Ward
all prepaid deals... no contracts... 15 euro mobile vikings...recharge is done online via the website with eg Paypal... which is done "realtime" you get 2 gigabytes, 15 euro to call for +-60 minutes, 1000+1000 sms to spend in a month they are not blocking any "voip" or "whatsapp" service...there is no quality of service... but they don't have a 100% 3G network ... most of the time it's "edge" 10 euro aldi... you can only recharge by visiting aldi store... which is not open on sunday nor between 18h-09h00.... you get 400mbytes? neither of them will probably be active after spending a year in your drawer for next fosdem...so use it up while you are here Mobile Vikings's data plan can be used in USA and rest of Europe at 1cent/20kbyte sessions while it's "free" for 2gbyte in Belgium data.mobilevikings.com for more info... 2gbyte should be enough to download 2 linux distributions? :-) 2012/1/26 Peter Korsgaard <jacmet@sunsite.dk>

A few of us did this last year, and I was really happy with the overall service. It was awesome to turn up at the hotel and have the SIM all ready to go.
