Transport and accomodation. What about campervans?
Hi list, I plan to come over with my campervan which solves the problems transport and accomodation ;) The question is where to stay? Is it possible to use the car park? I just found one camping place which is outside of Brussels and one place for motorhomes which is still quite far away (40 min by tram and 30 min by bike). Any ideas? Thanks, Oliver
Dear Olivier, I think there would not be any problems if you park your van in my street or in the street nearby. It happens from time to time that a large truck or a van park there for some nights and days. I live avenue du Pérou at 1000 Bruxelles, very close to boondael train and tram station, about 10 minutes away from solbosch Ulb campus. Hi Nicolas, thank you! I looked it up on the map. Looks good. If the weather isn't too bad I might as well take my bike. 10 min ride, pice of cake ;) Cheers, Oliver

Yes, or even two and a crappy bike which is often the best measure to avoid theft. Oliver

Note that since 2018-01-01, Brussels is a low-emission zone. All Diesel vehicles that are not compliant with at least Euro 2 are banned from the entire Region. Next year, Euro 2-compliant vehicles will be banned as well, and also gasoline-powered vehicles compliant with Euro 1 or less. Each year the minimal requirement will be raised, until 2025 when all Diesel vehicles will be banned. See http://www.lez.brussels/ for details. FOSDEM 2018 falls within the grace period of 9 months during which offending vehicles will be ticketed but not fined. FOSDEM 1019 will not. In the city of Brussels, parking for camper vans, as well as for any private vehicle occupying public space, is additionally restricted to 24 hours: https://www.brussels.be/parking-camper-vans (in fact, almost all municipalities restrict parking of any private vehicle on public space to 24 hours or less). -- Ludovic Brenta.
Thank you for that information.

There is an exception regarding motorhomes though.

All right then I just move the car a bit after 24h ;) Oliver
Grace period ?? This is simply madness.. Its no wonder the EU is on its last legs as people of member states wake up to the brain washing & endless control going on here. I live in Australia, and we had more snow than you could poke a stick at in the alpine regions, for the Winter gone. And we're the driest continent on earth. You need an excuse for higher taxes to fund more realms of bureaucracy. On January 6, 2018 12:58:29 AM GMT+00:00, Mal <malz@jetlan.com> wrote:

Hi Oliver, since FOSDEM 2014 we use the car park of ULB with our campervan. Note, that no electricity etc. is available... Last year it was a bit of surprise that the car park entrance from Ave. Franklin Roosevelt we used to take was blocked with a height barrier. Fortunately the entry from Ave. Adolphe Buyl was not :-) So for this year we hope that they haven't changed this... See you at FOSDEM-Campsite :-) Birgit Am Freitag, 5. Hi Birgit, that would be even better of course. Electricity and so on is not needed. Everything should last for the weekend. Then I first try Ave. Adolphe Buyl -> car park and if that doesn't work out then the place 10 min away. Problem solved I would say. Thank you all! See you at FOSDEM! Oliver
