Hello, I would like to thank the guys who worked to organize such a great freesoftware event! It was my second time this year and it was awesome. Had the chance to meet and chat with one of my gurus like Eben Moglen. I also discovered some great freesoftware projects like LibreOffice (yes there are some people who don't know everything about freesoftware). My main remarks about the Fosdem'13 experience 1. the beer event was overcrowded but was fun 2. I did not know what to do on Saturday and Sunday night. I went to Bytenight but could not stay much because of train hours. 3. I could not find the Keysigning event? when was it? Thank very very much about the great experience that Fosdem is. See you next year! Hamza
I too found that FOSDEM was great this year too. I have been attending the event each year for over a decade now and I must say that I am impressed to see it kick ass like this year over year. Do the organizers know approximately how many attendants did the registration this year? Cheers. -- Dodji

According to closing event, there was around 7000 visitors : http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8219/8445085831_4a6d5263ac_h.jpg (extrapolated from number of connections on the network)

7000!!!!! What an achievement! FOSDEM clearly is becoming an artefact that is worth getting in the Guinness Book of Record for something. -- Dodji

This estimate uses too many unverified hypotheses like the number of devices per visitor and, implicitly, the percentage of the time when visitors were connected on the network. A much more accurate estimate would be the number of flyers printed less the number of flyers remaining after FOSDEM. Does anyone have these numbers? anyway: great event once again; thanks to the org team. It seems like Brussels has become the centre of the Free Software world :) -- Ludovic Brenta.

Yes. I am always hesitant about throwing numbers out. Our official estimate (still current as far as I'm concerned!) of "5000+" attendees is based on network statistics, corroborated by catering statistics, t-shirt sales, fill levels of the buildings and fire regulations. We will have an extensive discussion about adjusting our guestimated attendance figure at debriefing meeting later this month. Until that time: "more than 5000" is the only correct answer when anyone asks.
A much more accurate estimate would be the number of flyers printed less the number of flyers remaining after FOSDEM. Does anyone have these numbers?
That would be a large negative number. :) - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Hi, I was there with friends and coworkers for the first time. The rooms where almost all the time overcrowded - especially if someone was talking about cool topics like automation or database replication :) That show what is the demand of these talks. Personally It was a bit hard to keep time track of ongoing things with booklets or android application - I saw many people were compiling their own schedules where to go and what talks to attend. Overall - Very good event! I'm looking forward to come next year. - Marius
