I'm also here with 70cm and 2m capability, the SDR dev room and the table in the AW building is very interesting for any ham here at FOSDEM. 73 - VK3TQR -- http://danielpocock.com

Reviving an old thread, but as a reminder for those of you suitably equipped (and licensed!) that there’ll likely be FOSDEM attendees monitoring the amateur bands. I’ll have my 70cm DMR/Analog radio with me again this year. 73 de Jon (ON/)M0NGY
HI Jon, Great to see more hams at fosdem! :-) As we did in 2015, we will be promoting hamradio in our infobooth in the AW building so feel free to come and visit us for a chat! There will be no VHF/UHF station but out goal is to have a HF station showing up digital modes (you know, all these "spacey-sounds") and do a demo on receiving satellites, but we are still looking with the people from FOSDEM how to organised this safely. F.Y.I, I propose to use the calling frequencies on 70 cm: 433.500 for FM and 433.450 for DMR (id 9 / TS 2). Local repeaters are ON0UBA (439.225, -7.6), FM/echolink (subtone: 131.8 Hz) + C4FM ON0PRX (438.4125, -7.6), DMR on the brandmeister network. Kristoff (ON1ARF) On 12-01-17 22:39, Jon Fautley wrote:

Hello fellow HAMs! We ( satnogs.org - librespacefoundation.org ) will be once again in FOSDEM as a group. Kristoff, what are you thinking for receiving satellites? We could arrange a demo even without a rotator. We also have a talk [1] about SatNOGS and how we will be commanding the first open source satellite ( UPSat [2]) that we built and awaits to be launched this March. We would love to meet with more HAMs, so join us! [1] https://fosdem.org/2017/schedule/event/satnogs/ [2] https://upsat.gr On Fri, Jan 13, 2017 at 1:23 AM, Kristoff <kristoff@skypro.be> wrote:

Does anybody have any plans to have a session about getting licensed? I read the big blue ARRL book 25 years ago, and now have the Chinese 2M HT that everyone has, but I follow the rules and don't transmit. Since I live in the Netherlands and am not yet fluent in Dutch, my options are limited, but I can travel. If not, I'll just bring the radio and listen in. -- Austin Hair <adhair@gmail.com> PGP: BF59 91A5 BA7C 072C F86B F0FD 8D2A FDDD 59AF 904C

FOSDEM is primairely a conference for free and opensource developement, not really a hamradio conference. (I concider us to be "guests" on this event ) There will be no possiblity to do ham-radio exams at fosdem, but I think, if you are only fluent in English, the best option to do that is the yearly ham-radio event in Friedrichshafen, Germany (to be held this year from the 14th to 16th of July). I know that the ARRL has -in the past- provided the possiblity to get a US license at that event. I propose you contact them to ask them to be sure they will do this again this year: more info can be found here: http://www.hamradio-friedrichshafen.de/ham-en/ http://www.hamradio-friedrichshafen.de/ham-en/index-of-exhibitors/index.php?... If you have other questions, I propose you contact me offlist as the FOSDEM mailing-list is probably not the best place to discuss this. BTW. For people who are heading to FOSDEM for the SDR devroom, I have been asked by my contacts at the DARC to make a little bit of publicity for the "SDR Academy" to be held at Friedrichshafen on saterday the 15th of July http://2017.sdra.io/ Kristoff
Pierros, This satellite-demo that is planned (if we get permission from the FOSDEM staff) will be done by another ham. (my job is merely tring to get things organised and getting permission from the FOSDEM staff and the ULB for everything). I have forwarded your message to the ham involved and I propose that you and him get into contact and see if you can do something together. I wlll forward you the contact-details offlist. But it would be great to see if you and us can set up something together and I will surely try to get into the AW devroom for your talk. Anycase, I will also be maning the infobooth, so we can surely have a talk about this! 73 kristoff - ON1ARF On 14-01-17 11:22, Pierros Papadeas wrote:

Martin, thanks for bringing this up, I would definitely be interested in collaborating with any hams who are present to make the session in the SDR dev-room more exciting I'm bringing a dual-band handie, an RTL-SDR dongle, a Ham-It-Up up-converter and my home-brew 20m loop antenna. I didn't bring my PSU, BPF or ATU so I may only be able to demo it for VHF/UHF reception in the 30 minute time slot unless there is a ham who can set up a HF transmitter very close to the dev-room. Is there a ham radio table elsewhere at FOSDEM where a more complete HF SDR demo can be set up? If so, I'm happy to put details on my final slide. Regards, Daniel
