Like last year and the years before, we will be outside. Sunday at 14:00. Expect the weather to be bad. Not "snow to your groin" bad, but "cold and generally miserable" bad. Dress accordingly and come prepared. The faster we get through the keysigning, the faster we can get back inside.
What is the Plan B for the keysigning party in case of rainy weather? There's got to be Plan B. And because of the nice weather I'd very much like to see Plan B to put into action.
People bring umbrellas and raincoats. That's what "dress appropriately" means.

A keysigning party in this kind of weather is just not feasible.
History proves you wrong.
Well of course it does... I attended just for the keysigning party in 2009, 2010, and 2011. You cannot compare this year's weather to just "cold & windy" as the years before. I also remember who chickened out and didn't attend because of the 'cold' weather - dressed in a tshirt - being listed as organizer of the event :-) -- left blank, right bald

Indeed. They are there to be explored and broken. Mount Everest because it's there. Where is your sense of adventure? Real Hackers[tm] would underwater keysigning or keysigning on the South Pole!

I should point out that I have attended personally every single keysigning event, regardless of weather, except for last year's. Not because I was cold being dressed in a t-shirt (I do bring a coat to FOSDEM) but because I was starving from running around like a headless chicken for the whole weekend. While you were all out signing keys, I was queueing for food. In a t-shirt. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

I think my sense of adventure kicked in when I read Ulrich's offer - a CA certification event AND a fosdem keysigning party both indoors. Woohoo! Be there or be square! So, for me and all the others who want to attend a real comfy keysigning party, it's gonna be in room Ferrer. It's the only viable option. -- left blank, right bald

Excuse me, I though I was organizing this? Any other rooms you'd like to hijack while you're at it? Why not just squat a random building? Maybe one that's already occupied and evict the occupants? Ferrer is occupied at the time. That's where the CAcert people are. We are not going to barge in and disturb their event. That's not how it works. We will be outside like every year. Snow or not. Cold or not. Blizard or not. Latest weather reports are -4 degrees, by the way. That's not even cold. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Note that it says "keysigning", not "naked keysigning". Just wear an appropriate number of layers and you'll be fine. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Based on the wiki http://fosdem.org/2012/keysigning : I assumed that I will be able to participate in both CACert (from 12:00 till 14:00) and OpenPGP (at 14:00) parties. Is this still correct? Thanks. -- Anton Martchukov http://www.martchukov.com

Ok Ok. You can read out the checksum. And then all sane folks can assemble at a warm place inside. Mind you, each and every keysigning event I attended, the place was always a common ground everyone seemed to agree upon - the organizer had NO say in terms that folks actually should stay put - he just offered a place for the event to take part in an orderly fashion. It's up to the individual participant to honour that place.

Now you are making things up. We all believe in peaceful co-existence (and can behave appropriately).

I agree with everything you said about the key signing except this, it is about 30 degrees too cold. Christian - sitting in -8 in a T-shirt as one of those despicable smokers - anyone know of some nice projects in more human-friendly climates?

Okay... so last year I participated in the keysigning party. By the time we were halfway, I started having trouble with just marking the people I was (even though it's a very simple move). I guess I'm not worthy to be called a hacker - I didn't subscribe this year. The primary reason is the cold weather. I agree the organisers should make decisions about location of events (and kudos for a good job) - I do think though that good feedback from the visitors is key too. Possibly it's a strategy off course. Imagine the keysigning party would be in a lounge, sipping a pina colada - we could have 5000 people attending the keysiging... this would last forever. :) This way only the die hard participate - resulting in a strong core and an event that finishes in time. Oh yeah... one thing I do remember (and Philip, you actually pointed this out from the start): people arriving late caused the chain to get broken and mixed up. Flipping pages because some "retards" (in the sense of being "en retard" - not the mental issue) decided to just pick a place at random... also were counter productive for this event. Possibly a "closed door" could prevent this kind of chaos too. Grtz, Just my little feedback. Jurgen.
