[Microkernel-devroom] FYI: Fwd: Re: Questions regarding the Multiserver, microkernel operating systems devroom

Resending response from FOSDEM's Pascal Bleser, contains interesting points about the presence of public. Btw, there will be 85 seats in our room. Jakub ---- > Second, on our devroom's mailing list, we have been debating the role of > the public that visits our devroom, but can't figure out how much the > public should be involved in the devroom. Is it common for the already > established devrooms to focus their programs rather on the interaction > with the public or the devrooms remain strictly developer-oriented? Depends, and that is interely up to you. We provide projects with the infrastructure, and you do (pretty much) what you want with it. FOSDEM has a huge number of visitors (6000 is a safe estimate), with 90% of them at least being active contributors in open source projects. So you can be sure that the people who will end up landing in your devroom will be highly interested in either hearing more about what you do, get deeply technical information about it, propose some interaction with another project, or just genuinly contribute to what you do. Given the amount of crowd at FOSDEM, you can be sure that the room will be full. You could also plan a mix of both things, have sessions that are more "internal" but also have a few talks that are more "introductory". The complete schedule of your devroom will be on the site and in the booklet which we distribute freely to all visitors.

[Microkernel-devroom] [TALK-PROPOSAL] Welcome! or Why do we meet here today
by Jakub Jermar 01 Dec '11

01 Dec '11

Hi, As there is exactly 31 days left for submitting talk proposals, I'd like to propose the following talk: [Title] Welcome! or Why do we meet here today [Full name] Jakub Jermar [Short bio] Jakub is a long-time developer of the HelenOS operating system and one of the project founders. Jakub helped to design and develop various parts of the system, including its kernel and the file system layer. [Estimated duration] 15m - 20m [Abstract] This short talk is intended as the opening talk of the entire devroom. After a welcome greeting, I will briefly ponder about the motivation for meeting together and attempt a basic quantitative comparison of participating projects based on available project-metric data. The goal of this quick comparison is to illustrate some apparent similarities and differences between our projects, and to further support our common cause.

Re: [Microkernel-devroom] Fwd: [FOSDEM] Devrooms for 2012

Hello all, [..taking this discussion to microkernel-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org] thanks a lot to Jakub for arranging the devroom and for having invited our project. I'm excited about the prospect of getting in touch with you all and the chance to bring forward our common understanding of the participating projects. I am sure there are a lot of things we can learn from each other and possibly ways to work more closely together in the future. Maybe it would make sense to coordinate the traveling arrangements between the HelenOS develpers and us? We are located at Dresden, which is not far away from Prague. What do you think?
