[distro-devroom] All acceptances and declines have been sent, schedule live
by benny Vasquez 20 Dec '24

20 Dec '24

Hey all! Thanks again for your patience here, our organizers were strapped for time, but we finally got it! All acceptances and declines have been sent, and we were able to build a schedule, too. https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/distributions/ We'll also be reaching out for volunteers in early January to help us staff the room for the day. As a brief reminder, we're looking for folks to act as Emcee, to help staff the door, to help with the AV equipment, and to help keep speakers aware of how much time they have left in their talks. We'll likely be asking folks to pick up a two-hour slot. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'll endeavor to be more on top of things going forward! benny Vasquez Chair, Board of Directors @AlmaLinux OS Foundation *I am sending this message now because it suits me, but I don’t expect that you will read, respond to, or act on it outside of comfortable hours for your time zone.*

[distro-devroom] Info about submitted talk for FOSDEM 2025
by Marina Latini 19 Dec '24

19 Dec '24

Hi Benny, hi all, first of all, let me say thanks for all the precious work you are doing behind the scenes for making this FOSDEM possible, it always feels so good to meet so many skilled people and learn from all of you! I'm writing because, after about 10 years attending FOSDEM as a user, I finally made the step to submit a proposal to the devroom you are coordinating. I can imagine that you received a ton of proposals for the Distributions DevRoom, and I was only wondering if I should just be patient and wait a bit longer for your feedback because you are still in the process of ranking and selecting the best options for your DevRoom, or if the reject of my proposal got lost in the process. My proposal was the one about Uyuni, an open source tool that can be used for managing and configuring several GNU/Linux distributions. Given that this is the first Uyuni talk at FOSDEM, I preferred to introduce Uyuni and how it can be used by someone focused on distributions that is also looking for a tool that can manage all of them. I didn't specify in the abstract what it is required for enabling a new distribution because I think that some initial knowledge on what the tool is and what someone can do with it should be a prerequisite for going into more technical view, but I can understand if you prefer to give the stage to a different proposal. https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2025/talk/review/T7YCDCQFLXL8Y9BKPPVBMCZT… Do you already know when you will communicate the decision about the submitted proposals? >From https://lists.fosdem.org/pipermail/fosdem/2024q4/003551.html it looks like that the speakers were supposed to get some info on 6 December. Of course, if you have any questions about my proposal, please, let me know. Thanks again for all your work and see you in any case at FOSDEM! [distro-devroom] Acceptance Statuses
by Oren Klopfer 12 Dec '24

12 Dec '24

Hi there organizers, I know that the CfP states that selected speakers would be notified on December 6, so if we did not receive an email confirming our status, are we to assume that we were not accepted? Or have they just not gone out yet? Thanks and in any case, see you all in February, Oren Klopfer

[distro-devroom] Review Updates?
by Mingcong Bai 10 Dec '24

10 Dec '24

Greetings all, Earlier this month submitted a proposal to the distribution and community devrooms (since I think it might be of interest to one of them), but I am yet to receive any updates regarding reviews and acceptance/rejection as of today. A fellow prospective speaker inquired about review progress a few days back on the distributions-devroom list, to which Benny Vasquez noted that they were running into delays during the review. I'm wondering if this is also the case for the commmunity devroom? Now that we are inching closer to the confirmation deadline on the 12th, I would really appreciate a confirmation/reminder about the review progress/acceptance/rejection, etc. It would also help because, in case my talk were to be accepted, I would need to obtain a visa for February (which, as you may know, can take a long time to acquire). Thank you all for taking your time to review our proposal, your work is much appreciated. Best Regards, Mingcong Bai
