Dear Andreia, Since I shame you so much, could you at least do the honourful act to explain how I shame you? ( ) By writing a polite appeal? ( ) By having a strong opinion against software patents? ( ) By having a strong opinion against people who've been trying to hurt our communities through software patents ( ) By having a strong opinion against people who are constantly inciting attacks on various of our communities? ( ) By calling attention that Microsoft has a software patent plan through Mono against the community, with the brave help of Novell? ( ) By hoping that proprietary software suppliers don't buy good will? ( ) All of the above? Because otherwise, it seems you just gratuitously took you chance to show off your spite against me as if it was new... (which it isn't, like you pretend it is in this email). Rui -- Kallisti! It would be a waste of my latin, I find it useless to try to argue with certain types of people.

There's no spite, just a general feeling of disapointment and shame. And I don't recall ever having any type of conversation with you in such a way that would make you accuse me of anything, frankly. In fact, I don't recall ever having had any type of conversation with you at all, period. But I'll be sure to check my logs, I might have discarded it from my memory in one of my periodic garbage dumps, not sure. andreia
Hi :) I just wanted to write an unconstructive mail in this unconstructive discuss.. to say that i deserve insult too :D I've just read Rui's opinion and i've liked what he said.. Then i've read the answer, and i realise that it's not FOSDEM purpose.. and understood that fosdem's goal is mainly about open-source world (not politics, or freeSoftware philosophy) (but it doesn't change how interesting fosdem is..) That should be simple and the discuss should be over (and has never been started)? why always so much anger ;) Xavier PS:I'm leaving in 1hour,and may not be able to answer before thursday.. (but it's just an unconstructive mail, not waiting for answer ;) PPS: sorry for my poor english!
OpenSource is a business similar to many any other businesses on this planet. It's just that many volunteers think they change the world by doing work for free. The positive aspect of this is, that many open source developers learn how to work and for example, write good code / develop well, which helps them again in their day-to-day job. You can even see OpenSource Software projects as the biggest sandbox for developers ever. Just from the human resource point of view, i think Novell does very well to give something back to the community by sponsoring an open source event : they benefit not only by using software, but also from the human resources. And honestly, i think this discussion is really childish. Thank you! On Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 6:36 PM, Rui Miguel Silva Seabra <rms@1407.org>wrote:

Gentlemen, this discussion is not relevant on this mailing list. Please take it somewhere where it does not fill up the mailboxes of hundreds of people who are not interested in it. We don't want to have to moderate this list. It has never been a problem in the past, but this year the amount of irrelevant blather is starting to make us consider it. A reminder: this mailing list is for people attending FOSDEM to discuss their attendance and for announcements and inquiries pertaining to the conference. Thank you. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip@fosdem.org subscribed to the list.

Sure, I just don't like to be insulted since I've a flight booked for FOSDEM about a month ago and am quite anxious to land in Brussels. :) For what I've seen, I'm sure I'll be having quite a good time with the talks, but I'd like to know that my donation is well invested in FOSDEM.
