[Security-devroom] Restaurant on saturday's evening
All, For the sake of simplicity, I registered an online poll for the restaurant. It's available through this link : http://doodle.com/swifwskc2g8gibda Please register yourself on it, even if you already replied positively on the ML. That way I'm sure I forgot nobody. I'd prefer to have an accurate estimation of the number of participants asap, preferably this week. Practical details: no prepayment necessary, please just be there if you registered. Timing : 7PM ? 8PM ? Up to you. Please have change. The budget is 25-30€. See you at fosdem ! Aris

I just contacted the restaurant. It's ok for 25 people (maybe more when I have more information), but we have to begin at 9.30 PM. Fail. :\ After a full day at FOSDEM where there are very limited options for food, the second dinner sitting is at least not what I want. 2030 would have been fine, because it might take time to clean up and it could be nice to linger and chat a bit, but that extra hour will drive people to McDonalds out of despair. :p I really do like the looks of the italian, but maybe call around to a couple of other places and see if they can receive us a little earlier, and maybe also handle the large company a little better. (If an italian tells you that there may be delays, you know what to expect, right?) //Peter

I must apologize. This deserves clarification! L'Artisan looks fantastic and I really would like to have dinner there. FOSDEM will be busy for me, and food options are quite limited on campus. I'll be starving by the time we close the devroom. My issue is strictly with the 9.30 time, although I normally love eating late. We should certainly plan some time to dismantle the room in peace and so that we do not have to rush when going to dinner, which would ruin the meal, but 2h30 is too long for me is what I was trying to say. Sorry for being unclear! :( I don't expect to bring much stuff so I will not stop by hotel before going for dinner. What plans do the rest of you have after the devroom closes? Aris kindly offered to try to adjust the reservation, what would be the prefered time for everyone? //Peter

Peter, How about if I bring you a clif bar I personally import to Brussels from USA! ;-) I don't know if this is in context or makes sense, by how about if Team yaSSL sponsors aka brings some food/snacks for the security devroom? What quantity/types is appropriate? We don't have much budget for this kind of thing but generally like us and those around us to be well fed. LS Larry Stefonic www.yassl.com

I might like that a lot actually. :) It sounds good, and tasty. You are of course right that I could (and should) plan ahead, and bring extra nutrition.

I think this would make you many fast friends. :) Great idea.
What quantity/types is appropriate?
I guess it depends on the size of our room. It looks like a smallish classroom. http://video.fosdem.org/2010/devrooms/jboss/drools.ogg is a video from the room last year. A few crates of $beverage and some snacks (and fruit if you want to be a bit more fancy :) would make a great addition to the room I think. //Peter

For a while I remembered the time between devroom closing and dinner shifted from 1h to 1.5h but indeed, 21.30 (or 9.30 PM, +2.5h) is written on Doodle and in the e-mail. True, 2.30 could be a bit too long time for some to just wait (and starve). But maybe it is possible to split for a quick snack and a nice beer in a nearby bar while those who want to visit their sleeping places could do that?

Sorry for being unclear! :( One option would be to prepare for the day, what Larry offered seems quite a good idea. Unfortunately I don't know what a "clif bar" is but Googling suggests it might be a nice bite (clif bar and red bull?)

I will be carrying stuff which I would like to drop off to the hotel (don't know where it is or how long it takes to get there and back) and get prepared for a nice dinner and maybe some Belgian beverages later on somewhere. Whatever Aris can arrange and whatever suits to the majority of you is OK for me. Cheers, Martin -- @MartinPaljak.net +3725156495

I took contact with the restaurant and got an agreement for 9PM. The idea of the american snacks looks great, too ! Larry, what were you thinking about ? If that's a budget problem, I'm sure you can ask for participation. We just need to be sure at which moment we're going to be kicked out from the room :) Kr, Aris

this is ok for me, no matter if the dinner is late, meanwhile we can have a beer or two :) Thanks in advance.

I grabbed a box of 24 clif bars to bring over. Red bull is a pefect compliment to clif bar's, but they're a little too heavy to travel with in bulk. What is the expected attendance for the room? LS

What is the expected attendance for the room? There are 23 dinner registrants, 30 list subscribers (some names seem to be double), the room is officially with 48 seats. Organizers have warned me: "be prepared for an overcrowded room". The forecast is 4..6k visitors, so .. As said before: there will probably be "residents" and "visitors" and the max number of residents could be somewhere between the number of 23 and 30.

We have redbull in Belgium too, it's only a matter of buying a pack. Aris
I would also had preferred one dinner hour earlier (we're used to that in sweden). But I'm too lazy/occupied to get involved myself, so I'll just go with the flow and be content with what is to kindly arranged by others :-) Kind regards, Tomas On 01/31/2011 07:24 PM, Peter Stuge wrote:

All, The restaurant is a big success. We have 32 subscribed participants. However, I called the restaurant - it's the absolute maximum they can handle. Therefore, I closed the poll. I'm sorry for the ones who didn't have a chance to register. It would be nice if people who registered and couldn't come for any reason let me an email, even on saturday's evening. Also, I was asked to communicate that it will be difficult if everyone order pizzas at the same time. I will give you more info on the menu later. Please register yourself on it, even if you already replied positively on the ML.

Some thoughts: Given that we must wait 2:30h before we can have dinner, is the restaurant still the best choice? I guess most people will want to go to their hotel during the 2:30h waiting time. I understand that most hotels are closer to the city center, and I a trip from Fosdem campus (suburb Ixelles) to a city hotel with public transport will probably take around 40 minutes in each direction. If most of you are staying close to the center of Brussels, would it make sense to pick a restaurant in the center?
