Distributions Devroom talk submission
by Mark Wielaard 16 Dec '15

16 Dec '15

Hi, I submitted a talk for the Distributions Devroom: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM16/event/4455 = Where are your symbols, debuginfo and sources? - A package is more than a binary - make it observable The call for participation said that acceptance notifications would be sent on 15th December. But I haven't seen an acceptance or rejection notice yet. If you have already decided on which talks will be accepted could you let me know whether or not mine was (and if possible why). Thanks, Mark

Adding 'decause' to CFP review list?
by Remy DeCausemaker 11 Dec '15

11 Dec '15

distro-devroom folks, I'm helping bstinson/KBSingh review the CFP's, but I don't see any submissions listed for me under my penta account. I heard from bstinson that pinging this list was the right way to get access, but if this isn't the right place, please advise me where to go instead. Many Thanks, --RemyD. -- Remy DeCausemaker Fedora Community Lead & Council <decause(a)redhat.com> https://whatcanidoforfedora.org

VirtualBox guest tools, upstream and distributions
by Michael Thayer 02 Dec '15

02 Dec '15

Hello, I was wondering whether the topic of how the VirtualBox guest tools are packaged by distributions would be a reasonable subject for a lightning talk, assuming you still have space for one? So far I haven't got my act together to submit one (too busy developing), but I might still do. I would like to keep it short, as I am more interested in listening and conversing than telling people things (and I must admit in getting a bit more contact with the people involved). The basic tenor would be: so far we have tried to keep our guest tools out of distributions, as we like to be able to upgrade them on distribution versions which are no longer well maintained, but distributions are keen to provide them in versions which are maintained. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards, Michael -- ORACLE Deutschland B.V. & Co. Distributions Devroom CFP

FOSDEM 2016 - Distributions Devroom Call for Participation The Distributions devroom will take place 30 & 31 January, 2016 at FOSDEM, in room K.4.201 at Université Libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels, Belgium. As Linux distributions converge on similar tools, the problem space overlapping different distributions is growing. This standardization across the distributions presents an opportunity to develop generic solutions to the problems of aggregating, building, and maintaining the pieces that go into a distribution. We welcome submissions targeted at developers interested in issues unique to distributions, especially in the following topics: - Cross-distribution collaboration on common issues, eg: content distribution and documentation - Working with vendor relationships (eg. cloud providers, non-commodity hardware vendors etc ) - The future of distributions, emerging trends and evolving user demands from the idea of a platform - User experience management ( onboarding new users, facilitating technical growth, user to contribution transitions etc ) - Building trust and code relationships with the upstream components of a distribution - Solving traditional problems like package management, and content management (eg. rpm/dpkg/ostree/coreos ) - Contributor resource management, centralised trust management, key trust etc - Integration technologies like installers, deployment facilitation ( eg. cloud contextualisation ) Submissions may be in the form of 30-55 minute talks, panel sessions, round-table discussions, Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions or lightning talks. Dates ------ Submission Deadline: 10th Dec 2015 Acceptance Notification: 15th Dec 2015 Final Schedule Posted: 17th Dec 2015 How to submit -------------- Visit https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM16 1.) If you do not have an account, create one here 2.) Click 'Create Event' 3.) Enter your presentation details 4.) Be sure to select the Distributions Devroom track! 5.) Submit What to include --------------- - The title of your submission - A 1-paragraph Abstract - A longer description including the benefit of your talk to your target audience - Approximate length / type of submission (talk, BoF, ...) - Links to related websites/blogs/talk material (if any) If you have any questions, feel free to contact the devroom organizers: distributions-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org (https://lists.fosdem.org/listinfo/distributions-devroom) Cheers! Your Fosdem 2015 talk reminder
by andreas＠bawue.net 30 Jan '15

30 Jan '15

Hello Fabian, This is your personal reminder email about your upcoming Fosdem 2015 talk. Title: CentOS (community) Infra revelead Begin: Sun, 14:50 End: Sun, 15:35 Room: H.1302 (Depage) You can access your talk at https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15/event/3234 If you have already finished your presentation slides, we'd welcome an upload of the slides into pentabarf for historic documentation. Fosdem will be live-streaming as well as recording the talks. Should you wish that no recording takes place, please reach out to us before the talk is scheduled to start. The projector/video setup will take VGA connectors only. Please make sure to bring an adapter. We can provide you with a Mini-Displayport adapter but if you have more esoteric hardware, please bring an adapter of your own. Audio can be recorded with a standard 3.5mm audio jack. Please try to be at the distro devroom 10 minutes before your talk starts and say hello to the devroom organizer on duty. Some more general boilerplate information about the schedule, pasted from the last mail: We have planned a buffer of 5min between talks for setup and to give vistors time to find a seat etc. Please make sure that your notebook is able to connect to the projector as any delays will cut into the time allotted for your talk. Due to the many talks we cannot allow any overruns as it would affect every later talk. In the same vein, please do try to be at the devroom on time. I would suggest to plan to be there 10min before your talk is scheduled to start. 5 minutes safety margin, 5 minutes setup time. If you would like to verify that your equipment is compatible with the Fosdem equipment please do feel free to drop by Saturday morning between 10:00 and 10:20 and you'll be able to test your equipment. Should you have any questions or comments you can contact the devroom organizers at distributions-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org. If you're stranded in Brussels and you need to reach us more urgently than email, I'll be having my personal phone with me and you can dial me at +31 6-81110317. No prank calls please. :-) Cheers, Andreas Thienemann on behalf of the Distribution Dev Room Program Committee Andreas Thienemann, Christoph Wickert, Jim Perrin, Rikki Endsley and Robyn Bergeron
