*Title* Get Productive in 25 minutes with Jakarta EE and Eclipse MicroProfile *Abstract* Coding should be fun, right? And writing boilerplate code, editing configurations, whether it is in YAML, JSON or good old-fashioned XML isn't particularly fun, is it? In this session, you will experience the joyful developer experience offered by Jakarta EE and Eclipse MicroProfile. With a minimum of configuration and boilerplate, you will learn how to create lightweight, portable, cloud-native applications in 25 minutes. *Recording me on audio and/or video* yes, acceptable under a CC-BY-2.0 license (DEFAULT) *Brief Bio*Ivar Grimstad is the Jakarta EE Developer Advocate at Eclipse Foundation. He is a Java Champion and JUG Leader based in Sweden. *Microblog URL*https://twitter.com/ivar_grimstad *Blog URL* https://www.agilejava.eu/ -- Ivar Grimstad Jakarta EE Developer Advocate | Eclipse Foundation, Inc. Free Java Advanced Imaging
by Jody Garnett 02 Dec '19

02 Dec '19

I just noticed this dev room when following up on the geospatial dev room extended deadline. This group would be AMAZING to share some exciting work I have been doing on my own time (after failing to attract funding for years...) So yeah, because this is a perfect fit for this group, and because I really want to see this rescue effort succeed please consider the following talk for any waitlist. -- Jody Garnett *Title:* ImageN and the quest to free Java Advanced Imaging *Abstract: * The Java Advanced Imaging is a powerful Java image processing engine powering a wide range of applications including the mapping applications (GeoServer, GeoTools, GeoNetwork) I work with day to day. This talk explores: - Core capabilities that make JAI attractive - Success of JAI architecture for geospatial work - Working with the Eclipse Foundation and Oracle to “Free” the JAI project - The Eclipse ImageN library One of the reasons our community has been so addicted to this library is its power. It explored concepts like parallel processing, and distributed parallel processing in 1999, well ahead of the curve. It is an excellent example of engineering and software design. Tragically there has been one problem with this ... the JAI library is not open source! The library originated at Sun Microsystem as a core component of the Java Runtime Environment, but was not included as part of OpenJDK collaboration. We will cover the search for an open source alternative, and the exciting progress made thus far. Come see how this foundational library is being propelled into an open source future by our community. I really hope to attract passionate Java developers who understand the importance of making this neglected part of the JRE free for our developer community. *Recording me on audio and/or video* CC-BY-2.0 license is fine (Prefer CC BY ATTRIBUTION if available). *Brief Bio: *Open source geospatial contributor with Open Source Geospatial Foundation and Eclipse Foundation LocationTech working group. Projects include GeoTools, GeoServer, JTS Topology Suite, ImageN and uDig. *Microblog URL: *http://twitter.com/jodygarnett *Blog URL: *https://www.how2map.com

Talk Proposal: Apache Maven Project - The Foundation of Building Software
by Karl Heinz Marbaise 01 Dec '19

* Title: - Apache Maven Project: The Foundation of Building Software * Abstract: The Apache Maven Project is one of the most used build tools in the Java world. One of the challenges is to support more or less all Java versions from 1.7 (or even earlier) up to the most recent versions including early access versions. Another part is to take a look into the future, what kind of things we might change to keep up with the current evolution of the Java world. * What the audience will learn from the talk: It will be shown how the Apache Maven team is handling the different challenges to keep on the line with the Java release train and of course with the wishes of the community. Furthermore we will take a look into the future of Maven and what kind of ideas we have. For example how to evolve Apache Maven for the next years. * How can people help out with the project: - Currently the project is being run by a number of people (less than 10) in their spare time. This means we would appreciate any help. * Bio: Karl Heinz Marbaise is an Apache Software Foundation Member and Apache Maven PMC and working as a german freelance devops. Working with Java, JUnit Jupiter, AssertJ, Spring Boot, Jenkins, learning Go.
