13 Nov '12

The age of #monitoringsucks is over, we're now transitioning into a #monitoringlove period. That however doesn't mean al the work is done, we still need t6o do a lot of work and a lot of people are working on a lot of stuff. Therefore like last year we are opening up our offices again right after Fosdem for a #monitoringlove hackfest That's right on february 4 and 5 a bunch of people interrested to fix the problem will be meeting , discussing and hacking stuff together in Antwerp. In short a #monitoringlove hackathon Inuits is opening up their offices for everybody who wants to join the effort Please let us (@KrisBuytaert) know if you want to join us in Antwerp. We'll provide caffeine, wireless, chairs and some snacks. Please register upfront at : http://monitoringlove2013.eventbrite.com/ Obviously if you can't make it to Antwerp you can join the effort on ##monitoringsucks on Freenode or on Twitter. The location will be Duboistraat 50 , Antwerp It is about 10 minutes walk from the Antwerp Central Trainstation Depending on Traffic Antwerp is about half an hour north of Brussels and there are hotels at walking distance from the venue. Plenty of parking space is available on the other side of the Park PS. Yes I`m trying to get another event of the ground the days before Fosdem but I`m still awaiting confirmation of the venue ..

Community development and Marketing FOSDEM DevRoom
by Italo Vignoli 13 Nov '12

13 Nov '12

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This is an official call for sessions for a "Community development and Marketing" devroom, hosted at FOSDEM 2013 on Saturday, February 2nd. In this devroom, developers with different profiles and backgrounds are invited to brainstorm about aspects related to software projects which are beyond the code itself, but nevertheless crucial for keeping the project alive, such as marketing strategies useful for attracting users and contributors, processes for managing the dynamics of the community, and open source solutions for project lifecycle management. While Marketing and FLOSS have long been considered incompatible concepts, recent history has shown that marketing strategies properly tailored for the FLOSS world can be of real help for open source projects without tainting their ideology. Good marketing can be an essential instrument for reaching out and expanding the community of users and contributors. You are invited to showcase best practices and successful collaborations between marketers and developers, to discuss marketing in a typical hacker environment, and to participate in establishing a link between communities and in creating opportunities for collaboration. Furthermore, you are invited to exchange ideas about what works for keeping a community in shape: how to encourage contributions from new members, how to keep people motivated, how to work across time zones and cultures, how to handle conflicts, what are the processes for naming new committers or for accepting patches. Presenters can talk about their favorite combination of tools for version control, code review, continuous integration, issue tracking, documentation, as well as full infrastructure setup scenarios. It will be a great environment for learning from individual success stories about new ways of working better inside an open source community. If you are interested in holding a session, please submit your talk proposal no later than 23-12-2012 (UTC) by sending an email message to cdm-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org, and providing the following information: About the speaker: - - Name - - Affiliation (if any) - - Short bio About the proposed session: - - Title - - Abstract (no more than 300 words) - - Preferred duration (5, 15 or 30 minutes) and time slot (optional) You can also subscribe to the mailing list to discuss the devroom topics with the two organizers, by sending an empty email message to cdm-devroom-subscribe(a)lists.fosdem.org. 12 Nov '12

Those of you who were with us at pgconf.eu 2012 in Prague already saw the initial announcement, and we now finally have some more details for you. FOSDEM PGDay is a one day conference that will be held ahead of FOSDEM in Brussels, Belgium, on Feb 1st, 2013. This will be a one-day focused PostgreSQL event, with a single track of talks. This conference day will be for-charge and cost €50, and will be held at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in downtown Brussels. Registration is required to attend. Registration is not yet open, but will be soon. Since we have a limited number of seats available for this event, we urge everybody to register as soon as possible once open. FOSDEM 2013: Mozilla Devroom CFP
by Benoit Leseul 12 Nov '12

12 Nov '12

Hi all, Like each year since 2003, Mozilla will have a Developer Room at Fosdem. Fosdem (Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting) is simply one of the greatest events in Europe around free and open source software development: it is THE place to be, to know everything is happening about FLOSS, to meet people... and to have fun! Fosdem is held, during the first weekend of February, in Brussels (Belgium), a very nice city, with the best fries you could ever eat ;-) So, as usual, Mozilla will have a Developer Room. And, as usual, it’s going to be packed. If you are interested in giving a talk, leading a workshop or some other session we should hold in the Mozilla DevRoom, please add it to this PAD : https://etherpad.mozilla.org/fosdem2013-talks before 2012-12-20. You can also propose a talk you would like to attend, and we’ll try to find a speaker! Please, do it in the same PAD, in the second section : https://etherpad.mozilla.org/fosdem2013-talks We want some talks from both Mozilla contributors and employees. All contributors who are selected to be official speakers in the Mozilla DevRoom will be eligible for travel and hotel sponsorship. Please make sure to list your contact info (Mozillian page, or e-mail address) in the PAD, so we can reach you easily if your talk is accepted. Of course, any other Mozilla-related proposal which you think would be interesting to share with other FLOSS communities is welcome. Please, feel free to propose any kind of talks, even crazy talks, brand new ones, etc. We hope to receive a lot of proposals or suggestions to make this Fosdem be a success with you! Cheers! Clarista and Benoit
