Smalltalk environments offer a very high development productivity, unmatched by their successors. This room has 72 seats, a VGA video projector and wireless internet. More information will be available later. If there are volunteers to record video content, the FOSDEM organization kindly offered to provide needed equipment & instructions. Please let me know if you would be willing to spend some time pointing a camera at a speaker. Proposals on content and format are welcome. People interested in running a session should send me an email at stephan ( @ ) stack ( dot ) nl with 'FOSDEM2014’ in the subject and the following information: - Their name - The project they are associated with - A short bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - (optionally) a picture of themselves - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - A abstract describing the session in further detail. - The desired length of the session. - The desired time slot in which they want to hold the session. I will send out updates on a regular basis to the lists and anyone stating his interest. Suggested values for the duration are 55min, 25min, 6m40 (Pecha Kucha). The desired time slot is meant to help you prevent conflicts with other dev rooms in which you might have a talk or your travel arrangements. There are alternative, non smalltalk-specific tracks available: lightning talk and the main track The deadline for submissions is December 31, 23:00 GMT+1. I would especially go into detail of the Truffle-based and the RPython (PyPy) based implementations to show modern ways of language implementations with the goal of achieving high performance.

How can I see all the "events" in Pentabarf
by Jeremiah Foster 30 Nov '13

30 Nov '13

Hi there, I'm hoping to see all the submitted events for the automotive devroom. Currently I can see the events I've entered, but I don't know how to see all of the events, those submitted by others for example, which I know exist. How do I view all events? Cheers, Jeremiah

Open Document Editors Devroom at FOSDEM 2014, 1 February 2014, Brussels
by Andrea Pescetti 26 Nov '13

26 Nov '13

Open Document Editors Devroom at FOSDEM 2014, 1 February 2014, Brussels Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related developments and innovations. The devroom is organized by Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice. We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to be held on Saturday, February 1st, from 10AM to 6PM. Length of talks should be limited to 20 minutes, as we would like to have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly requested and justified. Technical talks (code, extensions, localization, QA, tools and significant adoption related cases) about open document editors or the ODF format are welcome. Submissions must be done using the Pentabarf system: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM14 While filing your proposal, please add a few lines about yourself (although your profile might already be stored at Pentabarf) and specify what product or topic (Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice, both, other editor, ODF in general...) your talk is about. The deadline is Sunday, December 22, 2013. Accepted speakers will be notified by January 5, 2014. You can send any questions to the devroom mailing list: office-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org

by Tias Guns 22 Nov '13

22 Nov '13

Dear All, We love the mobile schedule apps! You can find a list of apps we know about here: https://fosdem.org/2013/schedule/mobile/ Do you know about more apps? More platforms? Tell us about it! To thank the mobile app developers, and to stimulate the continued development of the apps, we are offering a free FOSDEM t-shirt to the mobile app developers! Here is the deal: - The app must work with the 2013 schedule (preferably pre-loaded) - Must be open-source, with browseable sources - Simple forks don't count, ports to other platforms do if build scripts are available - Only applicable to the developers that will be at FOSDEM in person To get the t-shirt(s), the lead developer of the mobile app should contact us on info(a)fosdem.org with the list of developers that will be at FOSDEM and that have made a significant contribution to the project. (We reserve the right to modify the conditions of the offer to avoid abuse or clear out ambiguities.) Call for presentations: BSD developer's room at FOSDEM 2014
by Benny Siegert 09 Nov '13

09 Nov '13

Hello all, FOSDEM 2014 will take place on 1–2 February, 2014, in Brussels, Belgium. Just like in the last years, there will be both a BSD booth and a developer's room (on Saturday). The topics of the devroom include all BSD operating systems. Every talk is welcome, from internal hacker discussion to real-world examples and presentations about new and shiny features. The default duration for talks will be 45 minutes including discussion. Feel free to ask if you want to have a longer or a shorter slot. If you already submitted a talk last time, please note that the procedure is slightly different. To submit your proposal, visit https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM14/ and follow the instructions to create an account and an “event”. Please select “BSD devroom” as the track. (Click on “Show all” in the top right corner to display the full form.) Please include the following information in your submission: * The title and subtitle of your talk (please be descriptive, as titles will be listed with ~500 from other projects) * A short abstract of one paragraph * A longer description if you wish to do so * Links to related websites/blogs etc. The deadline for submissions is December 20, 2013. The talk committee, consisting of Daniel Seuffert, Marius Nünnerich and Benny Siegert, will consider the proposals. If yours has been accepted, you will be informed by e-mail before the end of the year. Best regards, Benny Siegert (for the BSD devroom organizers)
