schedule as single A3 page per day
by Michael Haubenwallner 24 Mar '14

24 Mar '14

Hi! To get an overview of all the concurrent talks to organize my fosdem day, it does help me to have one day's schedule on one single A3 sheet as a whole, either from an A3 printer, or as two A4 sheets sticked together: http://dev.gentoo.org/~haubi/FOSDEM2014-schedule-onepage-a3.pdf http://dev.gentoo.org/~haubi/FOSDEM2014-schedule-twopage-a4.pdf These have been created doing copy&paste from Acrobat Reader's snapshot tool, so there is still room for space optimization, but it does work quite well already. In hope to help out more people like me preferring handy printed schedule overview, /haubi/

Nametags
by Jeremy White 04 Feb '14

<soapbox size="large"> FOSDEM is amazing; the organizers are excellent people. But it would be even better if there were name tags with affiliation. Every other great conference I've been to does this; FOSDEM is the sole exception. And name tags are a source of great joy. They allow people to strike up a conversation with you (as many did this weekend when seeing my WineHQ name tag). They allow you to figure out that the guy next to you in the beer line is a guy who graciously helped you fix a flaw in your patch - and now you can buy him a beer to say thanks! I know name tags are hard and fiddly. But the reward for doing a fantastic job is being asked to do more <grin>. Maybe the booklets could have a preprinted punch out name tag? Maybe each room could have a stash of blank tags by the door with pens, or just have a table in each of the main buildings? Last year, Benjamin Henrion publicly volunteered to do the work[1], but was silently ignored. Cheers, Jeremy </SOAPBOX> [1] https://lists.fosdem.org/pipermail/fosdem/2013-February/001794.html

To the random hero that helped me survive belgian beer
by Rubén Torrero Marijnissen 04 Feb '14

Hi everyone, I just wanted to thank the guy that on friday the night of friday, after the beer event, helped me trying to find my hotel after I had lost my jacket and wallet, and blocked my phone. I was in pretty bad shape after thinking I could still drink beer as if it where college days all over again. He tried help me find my hotel for a while, but when it became clear I was not going to remember, he gave me 20€ without even having to ask for it, so I could take a cab back to the hotel. The worse part is that I normally have trouble remembering faces, but when I drink, its totally impossible for me. I tried to look for him the next days, but I remembered very little. Since those 20€ don't really belong to me, i'll be donating them to FOSDEM, which I think that he would also appreciate. Feel free to copy and paste this message anywhere with the hope it will reach him or someone who knows him. Thanks, and sorry for the off-topic!

[IPv6] FOSDEM mail servers
by Damian Zaremba 03 Feb '14

03 Feb '14

Hi All, Since we had a totally IPv6 network, I'd just like to point out the fosdem.org mail servers seem broken for accepting mail over ipv6. Only one server has a v6 address and is not listening on port 25 (the v4 address is), happened to notice looking at my mail server logs :) 2014-02-03 11:02:13 1WAHHx-00074w-9K episteme.fosdem.org [2a01:4f8:191:4332::28] Connection refused damian@Capricorn:~$ dig +short fosdem.org mx 20 episteme.fosdem.org. 10 apeiron.fosdem.org. damian@Capricorn:~$ dig +short episteme.fosdem.org ANY 85.10.228.28 2a01:4f8:191:4332::28 damian@Capricorn:~$ dig +short apeiron.fosdem.org ANY 82.146.116.115 IPv4 ok: damian@Capricorn:~$ telnet apeiron.fosdem.org 25 Trying 82.146.116.115... Cheers - Damian

Videos file structure

Hi everyone, I'm wondering how the video files are being organized in: https://video.fosdem.org/2014/ The directory "doc" contains two PDF (help?) files but they are broken. Is there a better way than random trying a file to watch a specific talk? ---- Sent using GuerrillMail.com Block or report abuse: https://www.guerrillamail.com/abuse/?a=R05nAQgNY7gcmxqnvngQYRDCQISfwNA%3D

Keysigning: list of participants now available
by Niels Laukens 02 Feb '14

02 Feb '14

The list of participants for this weekend's keysigning event is now available. If you're taking part in the keysigning event, you should now: o Download the list: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Optionally, if there's a trust path between your PGP key and mine, verify the integrity of the file using the detached signature: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2014.txt.sig e.g. using: % gpg --verify ksp-fosdem2014.txt.sig ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Verify that your fingerprint as shown on the list is correct. o Print this list of keys with fingerprints on paper. o Calculate the checksums of the file holding the list of keys. e.g. using: % gpg --print-md RIPEMD160 ksp-fosdem2014.txt % gpg --print-md SHA256 ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Write the checksums you calculated in the designated blanks. o Don't lose the list, and bring it with you on Sunday, along with a pen and appropriate means of identification. See you Sunday!

The fare for this special airport > line is 5 EUR; you can buy the ticket at the vending machine at Diamant. You don't mean Charleoi, do you? Are there any alternate ways to get to Charleoi from either ULB or Midi? The shuttle's kind of expensive.
