Keysigning: please submit your keys
by Philip Paeps 04 Jan '12

04 Jan '12

It's that time of the year again. I have updated the keysigning bits and pieces to accept keys for next year's keysigning event. Same procedure as last year: if you intend to participate in the keysigning event, please submit the keys you'd like to have signed to ksp.fosdem.org. If you're using GnuPG, that can be easily accomplished with: % gpg --keyserver ksp.fosdem.org --send-key <your-keyid> Please check that your key was correctly submitted by pointing a webbrowser at http://ksp.fosdem.org/. If your key is missing after you submitted it, send me an email and I'll try to find out what's up. Key submissions close Monday before FOSDEM to give me some time to try to remember how I generated the lists again. Get submitting! - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Openstreetmap.org
by Jo 23 Dec '11

23 Dec '11

Hi, What would be needed to get a table to present Openstreetmap.org on FOSDEM2012? I know I'm late in the game. Sorry about that. I could also give a presentation about the use of JOSM as an editor to enter geographical data, like buildings, house numbers, bus lines and the like, but I suppose all the slots for presentations are already filled up. I don't feel like giving a lightning talk though. 15 minutes is not enough time to do justice to the project's scope and besides I think most geeks will already know about it anyway. Jo (Polyglot)

Third call for sessions for the FOSDEM cross-distribution miniconference
by Wouter Verhelst 21 Dec '11

21 Dec '11

Hi all, (note MFT set to distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org) FOSDEM is a yearly conference that takes place in the campus Solbosch of the Université Libre the Bruxelles, in Brussels, Belgium. The upcoming edition of FOSDEM will happen during the first weekend of February, that is, the 4th and 5th of February, 2012. During the past two editions, there has been a distributions miniconference at FOSDEM, inviting talks from all distribution projects. Distributions that have cooperated in the past include Debian, Fedora, CentOS, openSUSE, Mandriva, NixOS, and more. The distributions miniconference will happen again this year, and we are still seeking proposals for sessions. I've sent out two previous calls for sessions for the miniconference that set the deadline for talk proposals to December 22nd, 2011, which is tomorrow. A list of current proposals can be found at <http://barbershop.grep.be/~wouter/fosdem/2012/talk_proposals.txt>. There are some interesting proposals there, but unfortunately there aren't enough; we'll have two rooms for two days, which means we'll have around 32 hours worth of talk slots. A variety of sessions are welcome; round-table talks, BoFs as well as presentations, on any subject related to distribution development. Sessions can be about a subject specific to one particular distribution, or can be targetted to distribution developers in general. As said, the original deadline was December 22nd, but I am hereby extending the deadline until January 1st, 2012. People interested in holding a talk or chairing a BoF or round table are hereby invited to submit a proposal to the distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist (moderated for non-subscribers), containing the following information: - their name, - a (short) bio, - a title for the session, - an abstract for the session, - an expected duration for the session, including time for questions by the audience. Note that the distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist may also be used to discuss possible BoFs or round tables before actually formally proposing a session, or for general discussion relating to the miniconference. Note: feel free to forward this call to a wider audience on other mailinglists where appropriate. Saturday DevRoom Timing?
by Tom Marble 17 Dec '11

17 Dec '11

Chers organisateurs: Do you have an updated plan for the timing on Saturday? I'm trying to see *exactly* how much time I have to schedule talks in a couple DevRooms. I presume the DevRooms can start when the main track talks are complete... when is that? Is there an official stop time on Satuday (18h, 19h)? Please advise! --Tom

Call for presentations: Mozilla at Fosdem 2012
by Benoit Leseul 16 Dec '11

16 Dec '11

Hi everyone, For some reason, I failed to send our CFP to this mailing list in time. The call is now extended to 2011-12-31. "Like each year since 2003, Mozilla will have a Developer Room at Fosdem. This year will be a little special for two reasons: First, for the first time the local community in Belgium will be leading the organization and planning of Mozilla's presence. And second, we'll have a bigger devroom and will be able to accomodate more people (up to 363 seats). This may allow us to do a few workshops along with the conferences. If you are interested in giving a talk, leading a workshop or some other session we should hold in the Mozilla DevRoom, please add it to the Proposals page on wiki.mozilla.org before 2011-12-31: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Fosdem:2012/Proposals Please make sure to list your contact info on your userpage so we can reach you easily if you talk is accepted. All participants who are selected to be official speakers in the by Mozilla DevRoom will be eligible for travel and hotel sponsorship. We've already had a brainstorming session during MozCamp Europe 2011 on what we would like to see in the Mozilla Devroom, so feel free to take a look at the resulting etherpad for inspiration: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/fosdem2012 Of course, any other Mozilla-related proposal which you think would be interesting to share with other FLOSS communities is welcome. For example, there seems to be no Accessibility DevRoom this year so this could be a great subject."
