FOSDEM needs your help
by Emanuil Tolev 03 Feb '17

Hi all, As you are surely aware, FOSDEM is coming up again on the 4th and 5th February next week. As always, we will need volunteer help to serve several thousand members of the FLOSS community. You can find and pick your favorite task(s) via the following link: https://volunteers.fosdem.org/tasks There are a lot of tasks that can use more volunteers and every contribution is appreciated. Right now are missing a lot of: - heralding volunteers. They moderate talks by helping the speaker finish on time and prevent rooms from getting too full and becoming unsafe. - video volunteers. They help take care of the cameras and the boxes used for livestream and recording. - InfoDesk volunteers on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. They take donations, give directions and generally help attendees. You need to register and sign in before you can fill in any tasks on the volunteers tool. Check out the updated FAQ, especially the Communication section where you can find out about IRC, the volunteers mailing list, and other ways of getting in touch during the event. https://volunteers.fosdem.org/faq/ Finally, O'Reilly have generously offered a free ebook AND a heavy discount on certain technical books to FOSDEM volunteers. It will be easy to take advantage of their offer: just sign up to the tool and volunteer mailing list, we will send more information shortly. Hope to see you at FOSDEM. Kind regards, The FOSDEM volunteers team P.S. If you've already signed up, thank you - we can't wait to see you next week!

by Johan van Selst 30 Jan '17

The list of participants for this weekend's keysigning event is now available. If you're taking part in the keysigning event, you should now: o Download the list: https://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2017.txt o Optionally, if there is a trust path between your PGP key and mine, verify the integrity of the file using the detached signature: https://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2017.txt.asc e.g. using: % gpg --verify ksp-fosdem2017.txt.asc ksp-fosdem2017.txt o Verify that your fingerprint as shown on the list is correct. o Print this list of keys with fingerprints on paper. o Calculate the checksums of the file holding the list of keys. e.g. using: % gpg --print-md RIPEMD160 ksp-fosdem2017.txt % gpg --print-md SHA256 ksp-fosdem2017.txt o Write the checksums you calculated in the designated blanks. o Don't lose the list, and bring it with you on Sunday, along with a pen and appropriate means of identification. See you Sunday! Johan

Keysigning party / trusting government-issued ID?
by Daniel Pocock 07 Jan '17

Will people be trusting Government-issued ID documents at the keysigning party this year? What are the alternatives? Would anybody be interested in expanding the information about this topic on the page[1] about FOSDEM keysigning? Regards, Daniel "Berlin truck killer Amri had 14 identities in Germany" http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-38516691 Spy agencies using fake passports for assassinations, why wouldn't they use them for keysigning too? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Mahmoud_Al-Mabhouh Fake passport at FOSDEM 2016 keysigning? https://lists.fosdem.org/pipermail/fosdem/2016-February/002445.html 1. https://fosdem.org/2017/keysigning/

Late Arrival to Keysigning Party?
by Anton Marchukov 06 Jan '17

06 Jan '17

Hello. Anybody minds if I arrive late to the keysigning party, e.g. by about 30 minutes? Is it generally possible? Previously, I was always joining from the beginning, but this time I have my talk overlapping slightly with the beginning of the keysigning party. I do not mind if I get fifty signatures less or so. AFAIK Zimmermann–Sassaman protocol is quite ok for that besides the group check of the hash of the key list file. But, I will be quite convinced that it matches if I do sufficient number of random comparisons with what other people have. Then I should be able to squeeze in the circle and finish the rest of the verification. Hope nobody objects that and I did not overlook any security or other implications. Anton.
