I saw recently that someone had time to manually edit my video and the cut looks great. video issues feedback?
by Frank Gevaerts 15 Feb '17

Hello, Is there a correct way to report issues with (published) videos? There's some annoying flickering on the slide part on the video of https://fosdem.org/2017/schedule/event/postgresql_data_types/ . I have no idea if it can be fixed, but I'd like to be able to report such things :) Frank -- "Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it." - Brian W. Kernighan

[feedback][airplane] briner
by Cédric BRINER 06 Feb '17

Hi, I've listed the feedback that could be improved for the next edition. Thanks for everything. Regards. cED ---------------- # the organisation ## the feeling It rocks solid, very well organized, the people are welcomed. Thanks. ## print your boarding pass Now as some companies does (brussels airlines), you get the ability to have your electronic boarding pass only 24 hours before the flight. What about giving a way for people to print their boarding pass. It could be sad to miss your plane because of a broken or no battery phone. ## Shuttle That is a very good idea to offer such commodity. But the transportation page mixes informations. What about splitting it into: - going to fosdem - leaving fosdem It misses why the shuttle are for ! What about saying: __Free shuttle buses__: for people leaving fosdem by train or by plane Say that there is a train every 20 minutes from the train station to the airport with 20 minutes of transportation. So that people can better estimate the time they have to get their plan or train in time. Plus, the map does not show where the shuttle bus station is. ## get notified when video when someone has bookmarked a video, it could be a good idea to notify him when the video is available ## get notified when room is full Some rooms get full, what about alerting people that to not even think about going to it ## application: As we do not have data connection outside of fosdem. It could be a good idea to provide the information on transportation in the application. And also, tell people they can pay the ticket inside the bus. Not more than 5€.

Hi all, Thanks for a great FOSDEM again! In the closing talk there was an email address for sending feedback. I cannot find the sheets of the talk yet online. I think they will appear at https://fosdem.org/2017/schedule/event/fosdem_infrastructure/ Perhaps also list the email address for feedback under https://www.fosdem.org//2017/contact/ Best, Pander

warning about Belgian SIM cards
by Daniel Pocock 05 Feb '17

05 Feb '17

In previous years, I've always bought a local SIM card as a backup in case I couldn't get onto the wonderful FOSDEM wifi and the SIM has always worked within 5 minutes. I bought one early this morning and it still isn't working yet after about 3 hours. The shop and the customer service line have told me that they have to check all new accounts manually now because of "terrorism" and pressure from French authorities. They told me to wait 24 hours before asking about it again. For anybody only arriving in Brussels today and buying a SIM in the evening, it is not clear if it will really be activated over the weekend or only next week so you may just be wasting time and money. Apparently, you can still buy tobacco products here and consume them immediately and they will eventually kill you but thanks to the irrational fear of Muslims, you can't get immediate access to the Internet in Belgium.

FOSDEM needs your help
by Emanuil Tolev 03 Feb '17

Hi all, As you are surely aware, FOSDEM is coming up again on the 4th and 5th February next week. As always, we will need volunteer help to serve several thousand members of the FLOSS community. You can find and pick your favorite task(s) via the following link: https://volunteers.fosdem.org/tasks There are a lot of tasks that can use more volunteers and every contribution is appreciated. Right now are missing a lot of: - heralding volunteers. They moderate talks by helping the speaker finish on time and prevent rooms from getting too full and becoming unsafe. - video volunteers. They help take care of the cameras and the boxes used for livestream and recording. - InfoDesk volunteers on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. They take donations, give directions and generally help attendees. You need to register and sign in before you can fill in any tasks on the volunteers tool. Check out the updated FAQ, especially the Communication section where you can find out about IRC, the volunteers mailing list, and other ways of getting in touch during the event. https://volunteers.fosdem.org/faq/ Finally, O'Reilly have generously offered a free ebook AND a heavy discount on certain technical books to FOSDEM volunteers. It will be easy to take advantage of their offer: just sign up to the tool and volunteer mailing list, we will send more information shortly. Hope to see you at FOSDEM. Kind regards, The FOSDEM volunteers team P.S. If you've already signed up, thank you - we can't wait to see you next week!
