Cross-Distribution devroom: Call for Participation
by Wouter Verhelst 26 Nov '11

26 Nov '11

Hi, Now that the word is out on the list of accepted devrooms, we can sure expect many calls for participation from the many devrooms on this list. Let me be the first (I hope): There will again be a cross-distribution miniconference at FOSDEM this year. People or distribution projects who are interested in joining it are hereby invited to communicate that desire. For practical purposes, I would like to request that one person steps forward from each involved distributions devroom, so that we can list the participating projects on our website (as during previous years), but also so that I have some contact within each project in case it's needed. People interested in holding a session should let that intention be known on the distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist, with the following information: - Their name - A (short) bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - (optionally) a picture of themselves - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - A (short) abstract describing the session in further detail. - The desired approximate duration for the session. Sessions can be talks, round tables, BoFs, or any number of other things that could generally benefit from an audience of distributions developers. In the case of BoF or round table sessions, note that I will still consider the submitter to be the 'speaker', though their role will probably be more something of a moderator. The deadline for submissions is December 22nd. -- The volume of a pizza of thickness a and radius z can be described by the following formula: pi zz a

Mono Developer Room at FOSDEM 2012: CFP
by Ruben Vermeersch 24 Nov '11

24 Nov '11

Great news! There will be a third edition of the Mono devroom @ FOSDEM. The event will take place on Feb 4 and Feb 5. We have the devroom the entire afternoon, for 6 hours (from 13:00 till 19:00). As I am not planning to fill up all that stage time on my own, we need your talks and presentations to make this day extra interesting. Talks on any topic are fine, as long as it's related to Mono and open-source. These do not need to be life-changing project announcements either: deeply technical things or pet projects that will make us all giggle with hacker joy are just as desired. Please send your talk proposals using this form: http://bit.ly/vK2WC6 You have until Dec 31 to send in talks. A final schedule will be made available on Jan 10. Not that we get more talks than we can schedule each year, so we'll unfortunately have to make a selection. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me. Ruben

FOSDEM2012 - Open Source Game Development: Call for Speakers
by Nils Kneuper 19 Nov '11

19 Nov '11

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 FOSDEM2012 - Open Source Game Development: Call for Speakers FOSDEM2010 will host a devroom centered on the development of Free and Open Source Games. Possible speakers (and topic suggestions) are invited to make their proposals. The game development devroom takes place on Sunday, February 5th, 09:00 - 17:00 in room AW1.120 (74 seats). As topics anything regarding Open Source Game Development is allowed and wanted. This includes talks about game specific areas like AI development as well as community integration, artwork (graphics and sound), translations in the context of games, integration of usermade content, cross platform porting (e.g. to mobile devices like phones) or whatever else you might find. FOSDEM is a conference centered on technical topics, as a result, the talks ought to cover technical issues that are relevant to open source game development. Speakers are encouraged to draw on their own experience as game developers in order to convey a message that is of interest to the game development community as a whole. The sessions are not limited to just holding a talk. If you have an idea for e.g. doing a short competition or a discussion round, this can also be a session, though sessions that are a talk or a presentation are prefered. People interested in holding a session should let that intention be known on the open-source-gamedev-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist[1], with the following information: - - Their name - - The project they are associated with - - A (short) bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - - (optionally) a picture of themselves - - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - - A (short) abstract describing the session in further detail. - - The desired approximate duration for the session. - - The desired timeslot in which they want to hold the session. Suggested times for the duration are 55min or 25min. Please keep in mind that the times are *very* strict. So better go for 45 or 15mins and assume some extra time to be used for discussions and questions. The desired timeslot is meant to help you preventing conflicts with other dev rooms in which you might have a talk or your travel arrangements. The deadline for submissions is December 23rd, 23:00 GMT+1. The list of accepted sessions will most likely be published on the open-source-gamedev-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist[1] until December 30th, 23:00 GMT+1.
