schedule as single A3 page per day
by Michael Haubenwallner 24 Mar '14

24 Mar '14

Hi! To get an overview of all the concurrent talks to organize my fosdem day, it does help me to have one day's schedule on one single A3 sheet as a whole, either from an A3 printer, or as two A4 sheets sticked together: http://dev.gentoo.org/~haubi/FOSDEM2014-schedule-onepage-a3.pdf http://dev.gentoo.org/~haubi/FOSDEM2014-schedule-twopage-a4.pdf These have been created doing copy&paste from Acrobat Reader's snapshot tool, so there is still room for space optimization, but it does work quite well already. In hope to help out more people like me preferring handy printed schedule overview, /haubi/

Keysigning: list of participants now available
by Niels Laukens 02 Feb '14

02 Feb '14

The list of participants for this weekend's keysigning event is now available. If you're taking part in the keysigning event, you should now: o Download the list: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Optionally, if there's a trust path between your PGP key and mine, verify the integrity of the file using the detached signature: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2014.txt.sig e.g. using: % gpg --verify ksp-fosdem2014.txt.sig ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Verify that your fingerprint as shown on the list is correct. o Print this list of keys with fingerprints on paper. o Calculate the checksums of the file holding the list of keys. e.g. using: % gpg --print-md RIPEMD160 ksp-fosdem2014.txt % gpg --print-md SHA256 ksp-fosdem2014.txt o Write the checksums you calculated in the designated blanks. o Don't lose the list, and bring it with you on Sunday, along with a pen and appropriate means of identification. See you Sunday!

morning run?
by Daniel Pocock 31 Jan '14

Is anybody up for a morning run Saturday or Sunday, meeting around the Novotel at 07:30 or 08:00 perhaps? Or has anybody seen a similar discussion appearing on one of the other lists already?

Apache
by Richard Ibbotson 31 Jan '14

31 Jan '14

Hi http://sleepypenguin.homelinux.org/blog/?p=296 This is something which is covered somewhere else at ApacheCon. But since it's that time of the year again I thought that someone might like to get hold of something from my personal archive. ApacheCon 2000 London. If you go here you can download the CD archive which was handed out at the conference. I know that a lot of people out there are using and developing Lighthppd but this might be of historical interest to someone out there. -- Richard Sheffield UK https://twitter.com/SleepyPenguin1

Ter info: Hacker(space) lounge @FOSDEM by UrLab
by Marc Coevoet 30 Jan '14

30 Jan '14

Hello! UrLab [0] (a hackerspace located in Brussels on the ULB campus) has "booked" a room [1] just in the middle of the campus where FOSDEM is organized. Our goal, is to provide a lounge and meeting place for hackers all over the world during FOSDEM. The Lounge will be opened both days until 7pm and is located right in the middle of the campus. This temporary hackerspace (let's call it /tmp/urlab!) will be located in the "Foyer Culturel" in building F1 on the groud floor. (See map: [2]) We will bring our solder station, some arduinos, leds and other electronic stuff and tools. Do not hesitate to bring stuff and/or ideas of your own! Hacking in group makes hacking more fun o/ Club-Mate, Beers and music will of course also be available :) C4 from UrLab, Belgium [0] http://urlab.be/ [1] The room has a capacity of ~50 persons, has internet, electricity, tables and chairs. [2] http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/50.81313/4.38171 We will also indicate directions to the space in every building FOSDEM uses ;) _______________________________________________ FOSDEM mailing list FOSDEM(a)lists.fosdem.org https://lists.fosdem.org/listinfo/fosdem

Little ampersand (&) encoding problem in schedule
by Jarek 30 Jan '14

30 Jan '14

Hi, I have noticed that in XML schedule at https://fosdem.org/2014/schedule/xml a string "&amp;" appears in about 20 talk descriptions. I think it should be just "&", otherwise it will display ugly in mobile apps. Example (in second paragraph of the abstract): <event id="1957"> <start>13:20</start> <duration>00:15</duration> <room>H.2215 (Ferrer)</room> <slug>entangle</slug> <title> Entangle: Tethered Camera Control & Capture</title> <subtitle/> <track>Lightning talks</track> <type>lightningtalk</type> <language/>
Entangle is an open source project that provides a Linux desktop application for “tethered shooting”. It uses the ligphoto2 library to trigger the camera shutter, preview shots via the camera's "live view" capability, download captured images and access all the live camera settings. It is useful for a variety of use cases including studio model shoots, macro still life, stop motion animation shoots, astro-photography and more. The talk will be targeted at Linux users &amp; developers who are photographers interested in any of the aforementioned use cases.
<description>The talk will provide an overview of the important capabilities of the program and, if all goes to plan, a live demonstration of the application in use. The aim is to demonstrate the potential of the application to users who are not already aware of its existence, and attract open source developers to contribute to the project.</description> <persons> <person id="623">Daniel Berrange</person> </persons> <links> </links> </event> Thanks, Jarek

Experimental tools to make the key signing party easier
by vatral＠vadim.ws 30 Jan '14

30 Jan '14

Greetings! I apologize if this is not the right list, but I didn't find a more specific one. I'm developing a set of tools to make large key signing parties like the one here much easier, and I think I got far enough to make it usable at this one. WARNING: This is under development, not done yet, and lacks features. I highly recommend that anybody wishing to test it first print the official list. Here's the link: https://github.com/vatral/KeySigningPartyTools So what does this do? It's a set of tools to make pretty lists of keys to print for the meeting, to make lists of keys to sign, and to import signed keys from email. With this, even the results of a meeting as large as FOSDEM's can be handled in just a few minutes. The ksp-makelist program reads the ksp-fosdem2014.txt file, and produces a PDF with the same information. Except it's better formatted, ensures a key is always fully on one page or on the next, prints the photo on the key if there's one, and adds a QR code of the fingerprint. The ksp-scanlist program then scans QR codes and makes a text file with the keys to sign. This makes the process after the meeting very easy. Take a black marker, scribble over the QR codes for the keys NOT to sign, and then hold the sheets in front of a webcam. Much faster and less error prone than doing it by hand, and it'll even use eSpeak to report progress, so that looking at the screen isn't needed. The ksp-import-keys program comes handy once people start sending you signed keys. It will read the mailbox and import keys from there automatically. I'll probably develop a dedicated key signing program, but for now caff should do nicely. Example commands for how to use this can be found in the README on the github page. Besides being much faster, I think this approach is more secure too. The fingerprints are taken from the ksp-fosdem2014.txt file, and scanned by ksp-scanlist, ensuring that the final list of keys to sign includes precisely the fingerprints that were verified at the meeting. This means that it's easy to check the fingerprints in the code, and it's not necessary to verify by hand that the fingerprint in the paper list matches the key in the keyring. I'll be at the key signing party with a copy of the list my code produces, and a laptop set up for a demonstration, in case anybody is interested. Comments, suggestions and patches are very welcome!
