Keysigning: please submit your keys
by Niels Laukens 13 Jan '14

13 Jan '14

The keysigning infrastructure seems to have held up well this year. I spent some time today preparing the infrastructure for FOSDEM 2014. Same procedure as last year: if you intend to participate in the keysigning event, please submit the keys you'd like to have signed to ksp.fosdem.org. If you're using GnuPG, that can be easily accomplished with: % gpg --keyserver ksp.fosdem.org --send-key <your-keyid> Please check that your key was correctly submitted by pointing a webbrowser at http://ksp.fosdem.org/. If your key is missing after you submitted it, send me an email and I'll try to find out what's up. Key submissions close Monday before FOSDEM to give me some time to try to remember how I generated the lists again. Get submitting.

by Stephan Eggermont 13 Jan '14

13 Jan '14

Call for Participation in the Smalltalk Devroom at FOSDEM 2014. http://www.fosdem.org, please forward " A devroom for the Pharo, Squeak, Amber, GST, Etoilé, Seaside, Moose Smalltalk projects & Newspeak as derived language. Smalltalk environments offer a very high development productivity, unmatched by their successors. Come do some pair programming with us and experience yourself the advantages of a real OO environment" The meetup will take place Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 9AM until 5PM, building AW. This room has 72 seats, a VGA video projector and wireless internet. More information will be available later. If there are volunteers to record video content, the FOSDEM organization kindly offered to provide needed equipment & instructions. Please let me know if you would be willing to spend some time pointing a camera at a speaker. Proposals on content and format are welcome. People interested in running a session should send me an email at stephan ( @ ) stack ( dot ) nl with 'FOSDEM2014’ in the subject and the following information: - Their name - The project they are associated with - A short bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - (optionally) a picture of themselves - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - A abstract describing the session in further detail. - The desired length of the session. - The desired time slot in which they want to hold the session. I will send out updates on a regular basis to the lists and anyone stating his interest. Suggested values for the duration are 55min, 25min, 6m40 (Pecha Kucha). The desired time slot is meant to help you prevent conflicts with other dev rooms in which you might have a talk or your travel arrangements. There are alternative, non smalltalk-specific tracks available: lightning talk and the main track The deadline for submissions is December 31, 23:00 GMT+1. Devroom related URLs: http://www.pharo-project.org http://www.squeak.org/ http://etoileos.com/ http://www.seaside.st/ http://smalltalk.gnu.org/ http://www.moosetechnology.org http://amber-lang.net http://newspeaklanguage.org/ http://www.esug.org First proposal already arrived: Stefan Marr proposed: I could give a presentation on SOM (Simple Object Machine) Smalltalk. I would especially go into detail of the Truffle-based and the RPython (PyPy) based implementations to show modern ways of language implementations with the goal of achieving high performance.

DevRoom Description
by Pau Garcia i Quiles 13 Dec '13

13 Dec '13

Hello, When we applied for a devroom, we included a description of it. Is it possible to have this (or another) description in the webpage with the schedule for the devroom, e. g. https://fosdem.org/2014/schedule/track/ipv6/ https://fosdem.org/2014/schedule/track/embedded/ https://fosdem.org/2014/schedule/track/graphics/ Sometimes it's difficult to know what the topic of a devroom is until you see the schedule, which is usually quite late. Having the description would help speakers know what devroom they should send their proposals to. -- Pau Garcia i Quiles http://www.elpauer.org (Due to my workload, I may need 10 days to answer)

by Dawn Foster 03 Dec '13

I wanted to let everyone know that we have extended the deadline for the Configuration Management devroom CFP. We're giving people a few extra days to submit, so we'll be closing the CFP on December 8. All of the details are in the original email below. Thanks, Dawn Foster On Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 8:58 AM, Dawn Foster <dawn(a)puppetlabs.com> wrote: > We would like to encourage people to submit talks for the > Configuration Management devroom, which is being held at FOSDEM on > Saturday, February 1. > > We are looking for talks from real world case studies, brainstorming > and hacking around configuration and systems management from complex > virtual environments and cloud computing to desktops and laptops. > There is huge interest in automation, monitoring, performance > management, configuration management, and DevOps. CFP deadline extended to Dec 10th for the Testing and Automation devroom
by R. Tyler Croy 02 Dec '13

02 Dec '13

After receiving a few requests to extend the timeline, I'm moving our deadline out a few more days to Dec 10th. The full CFP is here: <http://fosdem-devroom.org/wiki/Testing_and_Automation_(2014)> I'd personally love to hear more about tools like Packer, or how open source projects are automating their own test and release processes. If you know somebody who is involved in those efforts, please point them our way! Cheers - R. Distributions Developer Devroom: Call for Participation
by Joe Brockmeier 02 Dec '13

02 Dec '13

Once again, FOSDEM will have a cross-distribution miniconference on 1 & 2 February 2014. We'd like to invite submissions of talks, Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, or round-table discussions from any interested representatives of Linux distributions or individuals who have a topic of interest related to Linux distributions. Proposals should be submitted through the FOSDEM proposal system (Pentabarf) here: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM14 You'll add your session title, speaker bio, and abstract for the talk. If you've presented or submitted at FOSDEM previously, you should have an account in Pentabarf. If you haven't created an account, but have presented at FOSDEM previously *please* contact me before creating an account - the odds are you have an account that was created previously by the FOSDEM organizers. Deadline for submissions is 22 December 2013. Since we're on a tight timeline, this is unlikely to be extended. In addition to speakers, we also need one moderator for each day, and a video volunteer for each day. The moderator will introduce the speaker, keep time, and pass the microphone around for questions. The video volunteer will handle recording of sessions with provided equipment. (Don't worry, we'll also provide training as well.) The call for participation is going out a bit late, so please do speak up quickly if you're interested in participating! Also, please do help spread the word so we can ensure the best possible program for this year's FOSDEM. Best, jzb

A Convenient Brussels room
by Emanuil Tolev 01 Dec '13

01 Dec '13

Hi, I won't be able to make FOSDEM this year, but had rented a flat on 9flats (luckily with a flexible cancellation policy). It's only about 75 EUR for 2 nights (1 person) and a 2nd person would get an even lower price. The FOSDEM venue is 30 minutes away, with a choice of 2 trams departing every 10 minutes in the normal tram hours. Since it took me a *good* while to find nice accommodation that fit all the criteria (cheap, convenient, experienced host, instant booking - no negotiations ..), I thought somebody else could make use of it: https://www.9flats.com/places/99107-apartment-brussels-woluwe_st_lambert Here are some details on getting from the flat to the FOSDEM venue: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=Villo!+station+ul… (Sorry for the Google link, couldn't get YourNavigation / OpenStreetMap to give me similar directions.) Enjoy FOSDEM, y'all. Looking forward to resuming the volunteering in 2015, Emanuil

Linux Containers @FOSDEM
by Milos Gajdos 01 Dec '13

01 Dec '13

Guys, I know I'm a bit late to the party but I'm wondering why there is no track for these ? Docker has been taking the internet by storm lately... Is there any room where LXCs/Docker will be talked about ? I myself would be willing to give a talk about LXCs (I'm the guy behind containerops.org) But I'm assuming it's A too late to submit a talk B there is not room where LXC belong to I'm pretty sure the interest is there IMHO...
