FOSDEM needs better netadmins
by Benjamin Henrion 28 Feb '07

While searching on flickr for pictures: http://flickr.com/photos/mhw/104962874/ "So roughly in the center is a Linksys wireless router or access point. The FOSDEM dudes were trying to provide the entire room wireless internet access with just that one little box. That's probably more than a hundred laptops, all with wifi. Way more than one puny linksys can handle. FOSDEM people: think about the wireless next time, we need it and it sucked. Supposedly the wired network was fine. You need more than one Access Point per room." -- Benjamin Henrion <bhenrion at ffii.org> FFII Brussels - +32-484-566109 - +32-2-4148403

Energy issues
by Drusilla Elhassan 28 Feb '07

28 Feb '07

Nowadays energy supply problems are standing for every man. Prices for oil, gas, coal are rising higher and higher. The governments of many countries discuss using of the renewed kinds of energy such as biofuel, energy of the sun and so on. But the problem of saving energy also is of great importance. In a view of it energy conservations is needed vitaly. One of perspective directions is the technology hydrogen. But Proton Exchange Membrane is needed in order to improve this technology. It's developing now by the following company. AC Energy, Inc is an electrochemical power company pioneering strategic energy pathways in the milliwatts to kilowatts range. AC Energy is creating energy solutions designed for all spheres of modern life. The fuel cell technology, Proton Exchange Membrane ("PEM") is touted as the "Catalyst for the Hydrogen Age". PEM, declared as the major candidate to replace the internal combustion engine, has created investor interest. Famous developers, knowledgeable in commercialization questions, possess the expertise to capitalize on new concepts. The principals of AC Energy have an excellent understanding of these issues and elive that because the Company has professional team that certain market niches can be dominated by it. Read more about Proton exchange membrane at wikipedia. AC Energy symbol is ACEN Watch, trade, invest, buy it today on Feb 28 2007 for tomorrow and beyond tomorrow.

keys and keysigning questions
by John Seifarth 23 Feb '07

23 Feb '07

I have a few questions about the key signing event on Sunday. CACert Signing On the keysigning page, here is a recommendation to print 20-40 copies of the WoT form. As far as I can see at the CACert Wiki (http://wiki.cacert.org/wiki/FAQ/AssuranceDetails#head- ca7832ef2e3dec5ccec2deff91d7b6c04bf425a6) assurers with 100 points (the minimum to be able to assure others) can issue 10 points. So with only 100-point assurers, 15 would suffice to issue the maximum of 150 points to the assuree. 1) Why do we need to print 20-40 copies when 15 copies would suffice, or even as few as 5 (assuming 150-point assurers granting 35 points each)? What about the trees? What about the toner forests? What about the empty inkjet cartridges crying in the night? GPG/PGP Keysigning 2) How many copies of the (16 page) document do I need to print and fill in the checksums? 3) If I add another email address to my identity (I only have one on it now), is the key as signed at the keysigning automatically valid for that address (or is my question already showing my lack of understanding)? 4) What is the best way to disseminate my public key, and to get the public keys of my correspondants? I understand there are key servers somewhere, can someone explain how this works? key question still slightly unclear
by John Seifarth 23 Feb '07

23 Feb '07

I asked: > 3) If I add another email address to my identity (I only have one on > it now), is the key as signed at the keysigning automatically valid > for that address (or is my question already showing my lack of > understanding)? Wouter replied: >> That will depend on the participants; some people will sign your new >> UID, others won't. It may help if you communicate that you have a new >> UID on your key at the signing party. Geert said: >> When signing a key, GPG will ask whether you want to sign all >> email adresses. >> Some people won't say `Y' if your new email address is not on the >> list. And I'm confused. I really don't understand the mechanics of the keysigning system. You have a series of private keys, they will be collectively validated by a md5 and a sha1 checksum. How does my individual key get signed? Do I have to upload it on the server (see below) beforehand, or so the keysigners have a copy of the key I uploaded to FOSDEM? I was thinking more along the line of adding an email address AFTER the keysigning party. Is that email address (is that considered as the ID) covered by the current keysigning, or should I worry about that at next year's keysigning? Do I have to sign other peoples' keys? So my next question: > 4) What is the best way to disseminate my public key, and to get > the public > keys of my correspondants? I understand there are key servers > somewhere, can > someone explain how this works? Geert replies: >> gpg --recv-key --keyserver pgp.mit.edu <id> >> gpg --send-key --keyserver pgp.mit.edu <id> >> >> You can also put the keyserver in your ~/.gnupg/options. > And Wouter says: >> Make sure the following line is found in your ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf: >> >> keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net >> >> Then, you can search for keys with >> >> gpg --recv-key <data> >> >> where you replace <data> with either the mail address or the key >> ID of >> your correspondent. >> >> After signing the key, please do not randomly upload them; you should >> also attempt to verify that the email address of the key you >> signed is >> valid. An easy way to do that is to encrypt and mail the key to >> the key >> owner; the 'caff' script can help you with this. You can find caff in >> the Debian package 'signing-party'; it's a perl script. > I found these lines in my gpg.conf file: keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net #keyserver mailto:pgp-public-keys@keys.nl.pgp.net #keyserver ldap://keyserver.pgp.com Should I have multiple key servers? Should I put pgp.mit.edu in as well? Does it use the hkp:// protocol as well? Does the existence of this line in the config file mean that my key has automatically already been uploaded, or do I need to run a command? Do I need to do anything to update the key on the server before or after the keysigning? Wouter also added: >> I'll be sure to repeat this at the beginning of the signing party on >> sunday. So Wouter, sorry to bother you beforehand, But I like to be prepared, as my Scoutmasters always told me!
