At least when we did, he asked for an incredible amount of money (I can't remember but it was a lot, for what he does...), he also wanted to be treated like a rock star (aside from the money he wanted his room to be paid as well..) So, the point is, it's just a show, yes, but is it worth it? From my point of view and taking into account what I saw, no. Maybe he has changed his cache and his behaviour, let us know what happens! All the best, Manuel

Small projects, any chance ?
by Sanel Zukan 26 Dec '07

26 Dec '07

Hi to all, I was not able to find some official address to send this mail and hoping this mailing list will be sufficient for a small number of questions (if applicable). I'm a member/developer of Equinox project (http://equinox-project.org) and I/we tried to apply this year for a stand. Looks like the submisson was rejected and I was able to find out that only via announcement on the main web page (probably you got a lot of stand submissons this year and your team was not able to reply to all of them, or... your policy is not to reply at all ???) Looking from the presented list (http://www.fosdem.org/2008/stands) this year are welcome only The Big ones, which is pretty ok since they are warmly welcome everywhere. My question is: any way a small projects can get a chance to show/present themselves? Or, what are the prerequisites to be accepted (e.g. for a stand): large code base, large user base, large development team ? Or maybe popularity; the irony is that if you can't get presented yourself, popularity is affected too :P. I'm hoping you will not see these comments/questions as some kind of provocation since my intent is not to do so. Hopine some useful replies will come up :) Best, -- Sanel Zukan http://equinox-project.org

Call For Lighting Talk announcement
by Mattias 'Tias' Guns 22 Dec '07

22 Dec '07

Hello FOSDEM Fans, I am glad to announce the call for lightningtalks ! Lightning Talks are your 15 minutes of fame: every open source or free software project can apply for a lightning talk. During exactly 15 minutes, one person gets to present the project or an aspect of it. All Lightning Talks will happen in a large room that can host up to 300 people. Interested ? Read more at http://fosdem.org/2008/lightningtalks Note that there are some differences to last year: * A project can not have a lightningtalk if it was part of FOSDEM last year * Lightning Talks will be selected by the FOSDEM team, based on innovation and uniqueness And of course, it will be as great as last year, and even more fun : ) Greetings, Tias FOSDEM Lightning Talks

[Research devroom] Talk proposal on programming the ps3
by Olivier Grisel 15 Dec '07

15 Dec '07

Hi fosdemers, I would like to contact the team that manages the research devroom to submit a presentation / workshop proposal on howto to turn the PS3 as a cheap yet powerful SIMD computer using linux and other open source tools and libraries. As the concept of the room seems quite new, I would like to ask them about the relevance of the PS3 programming topic before starting to write an abstract. Regards, -- Olivier

Are talk slots still available?
by Olivier Cleynen 13 Dec '07

13 Dec '07

Hello! I might seem a little late for this - I'm just surprised that the main track program has been released. I was on the watch for an official call for papers but never saw it... I have two questions: 1. Is it still possible to make a submission for a talk? I proposed one though the web form but got no answer 2. Is it possible to make a submission for a lightning talk? Sorry for the disturbance and thanks in advance for your answer. Olivier Cleynen. GNU/Linux Matters http://www.gnulinuxmatters.org/

Getting a devroom for Gentoo
by Daniel Drake 03 Dec '07

03 Dec '07

Hi, I'm not sure exactly why, but it looks like there was an organisational mixup this year and nobody applied for a Gentoo dev room. Is there any chance to apply for one at this late stage? Perhaps for just some of the time? Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience, Daniel
