first edition of the SDR devroom at fosdem ?
by Kristoff 08 Feb '18

Hi, A small quesion about the history of FOSDEM. Perhaps somebody can help me. I have been asked to write a rapport on the infobooth we had at FOSDEM 2018. I'm now gathering background some more background information on FOSDEM itself. Does anybody know when was the the first edition of the SDR devroom at fosdem? The first time I attended FOSDEM and the SDR devroom was (I think) in 2014, but I have no idea how long it already existed. It is correct to say that -at first- FOSDEM was a pure "software" conference, and later grew into more not-pure-software subjects too (SDR, open harware, hardware developer tools, GEOspacial, ..)? I guess this change probably happened gradually but I would be nice to have a rought idea when this happened? Thanks! :-) Kr. Bonne

Some feedback
by Oliver Hoffmann 08 Feb '18

Hi all, there could be more information about parking. Especially if you have a camper van or motor home. So some hints. -If you arrive after 22:00 everything will be closed. No way to enter the car park -If you arrive to late during the day it'll be full and closed as well -There are no parking fees down in Av. Uruguay. Thus possible to stay there over night. Tram 94 is close. -Parking and even staying in the car over night is OK for 24h -Old Diesel cars are not allowed in the city but Camper vans/motor homes are -Entering the car park with such a car and "camp" there might raise questions. There was nobody telling me off or something though. Politness and or being a volunteer might help -I have no idea about parking fees. I just saw that you have to pay everywhere close to ULB and then there were other areas where parking was free of charge I know it is next to impossible to solve it but very often the rooms were to full or even closed due to too many people. I missed three or four interesting talks because of that. And yeah, there could be more food trucks! Cheers, Oliver

Thanks and improvement
by Pander 06 Feb '18

Hi all, First: thank you for another great FOSDEM! As a suggestion, I would like more coffee and food trucks. The lines are sooo long. If they are shorter, for sure many people would have spend more on coffee and food. Not only because of less waiting in the cold, but also not to miss any talks. For sure some coffee and food trucks would be interested to set up camp at FOSDEM 2019. Preferably ones that offer contactless payments. Best, Pander

First keysigning? Forget to print list?
by Justin W. Flory 04 Feb '18

04 Feb '18

Hi, I created a Google Sheet list of all keysigning participants and two columns to quickly enter someone's fingerprint and ID confirmation. Feel free to save your own copy. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JKlYmLYu0SSmvIWUzcvLbCkef7ZW2OkycpS… I was already traveling when the original list was sent and did not have access to a printer. I made this to preserve my sanity, and thought someone else may also find it useful, especially if it's your first keysigning or you simply forgot to print. Hope this helps. See you all in 20 minutes. -- Cheers, Justin W. Flory jflory7(a)gmail.com

Hey, If anyone has an HDMI and/or display power cable that we could use for our GitMate/coala stand they would be rewarded by a token of eternal gratitude (see it as a kind of cryptocurrency with immense personal value) :) Stupid me forgot those :/ Greetings from GitMate.io :) Lasse

Missing laptop charger
by James 03 Feb '18

03 Feb '18

Dear FOSDEM, A friend of mine (in cc) is here for his first FOSDEM! He has a mac laptop and forgot his charger. Unfortunately my X220 charger is not compatible. (Grumble, grumble, standards.) Does someone have a charger that they can lend him for an hour or so to top up his iMachine? He has the magnetic receptacle kind. Thanks, James @purpleidea
