Identity and Access Management (IAM/IdM) is a concept that touches everyone's lives. We all have many identities and associated credentials to manage. At work, we need to access many kinds of services every day, sometimes with multiple identities and using different authentication methods. Those who deploy identity infrastructure need also to deal with audit and monitoring of user activities. Security is paramount but efficiency and ease of use matter too! ** Call For Participation The IAM/IdM developer room is devoted to all things Identity Management. Both server and client side free software projects in the area of identity management are welcomed to present their state and progress. Presentation topics could include: - Security: algorithms and protocols for IAM/IdM; passwords and password alternatives - Federated and social identity; leveraging external identities in applications - Audit, compliance, monitoring - User experience, desktop integration - Free software IAM/IdM offerings - IAM/IdM deployment reports and more. Don't be shy and show how your project helps to improve our lives. ** Important dates: - 26 Nov 2017: submission deadline for talk proposals - 15 Dec 2017: announcement of the final schedule - 3 Feb 2018: Identity and Access Management devroom (Saturday) Talk proposals will be reviewed by a steering committee: - Alexander Bokovoy (Samba Team, FreeIPA // Red Hat Inc.) - Marcus Rückert (OpenSUSE Infrastructure // SUSE LINUX GmbH) - Jakub Hrozek (SSSD // Red Hat Inc.) - Timo Aaltonen (Debian, Ubuntu // Canonical) Use the FOSDEM 'pentabarf' tool to submit your proposal: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18 - If necessary, create a Pentabarf account and activate it. Please reuse your account from previous years if you have already created it. - In the "Person" section, provide First name, Last name (in the "General" tab), Email (in the "Contact" tab) and Bio ("Abstract" field in the "Description" tab). - Submit a proposal by clicking on "Create event". - Important! Select the "Identity and Access Management devroom" track (on the "General" tab). - Provide the title of your talk ("Event title" in the "General" tab). - Provide a description of the subject of the talk and the intended audience (in the "Abstract" field of the "Description" tab) - Provide a rough outline of the talk or goals of the session (a short list of bullet points covering topics that will be discussed) in the "Full description" field in the "Description" tab - Provide an expected length of your talk in the "Duration" field. Please count at least 10 minutes of discussion into your proposal. Suggested talk length would be 15, 20+10, 30+10, and 40+10 minutes. ** Recording of talks The FOSDEM organizers plan to have live streaming and recording fully working, both for remote/later viewing of talks, and so that people can watch streams in the hallways when rooms are full. This requires speakers to consent to being recorded and streamed. If you plan to be a speaker, please understand that by doing so you implicitly give consent for your talk to be recorded and streamed. The recordings will be published under the same license as all FOSDEM content (CC-BY). -- / Alexander Bokovoy

[CFP] LLVM toolchain devroom CFP at FOSDEM 2018
by Kristof Beyls 21 Nov '17

21 Nov '17

*CALL FOR PAPERS / PARTICIPATION* At FOSDEM 2018, LLVM will again participate with a dedicated devroom, on February 4th, in Brussels. As possibly the largest European Open Source Conference, FOSDEM attracts more than 400 lectures and over 5000 hackers - many core contributors of the worlds leading open source projects. Complementing the LLVM developer meetings, the devroom at FOSDEM provides a great opportunity for LLVM developers and the wider open source community to get together, connect and discuss. We invite academic, industrial and hobbyist speakers to present their work on developing or using LLVM, Clang, LLDB, Polly, Compiler-rt, etc. We are looking for: - Keynote speakers. - Technical presentations (30 minutes plus questions and discussion) related to development of LLVM, Clang etc. - Presentations about the use of LLVM, Clang in commercial, academic, hobbyist and other projects. - Tutorials. - Lightning talks (5 minutes). - Demos. The deadline for receiving proposals is November 26th, 2017. Speakers will be notified of acceptance or rejection by December 12th. Please find some advice on what constitutes a good proposal at the end of this CFP. To submit a proposal, please create an account on the FOSDEM interface ( https://penta.fosdem.org/user/new_account) If you already have an account from previous years, please reuse that. Submit your proposal following https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18, “Create Event”. Please make sure you select "LLVM toolchain devroom" as the "Track”. Presentations will be recorded and streamed. Sending your proposal implies giving permission to be recorded. However, exceptions can be made for exceptional circumstances. *Registration* FOSDEM does not require any registration and is free of charge. *Organization* The mailing list llvm-devroom at lists.fosdem.org can be used to discuss issues of general interest related to the conference organization. Please, do not reply to this email, as it is cross posted to many lists. *Financial support* There may be a possibility of limited funding to help presenting students or presenting contributors who could not otherwise attend the conference. If you need funding to be able to present at the meeting, or can help sponsor, please tell us on llvm-devroom at lists.fosdem.org. *Guidance on writing a proposal for the LLVM Dev Room* This is a guide to help you submit a good proposal and increase your chances of your proposal being accepted. If you have never presented at an LLVM meeting, then do not fear this process. We are actively looking for new speakers who are excited about LLVM and helping grow the community through these educational talks! You do not need to be a long time developer to submit a proposal. General Guidelines: - It should be clear from your abstract what your topic is, who your targeted audience is, and what are the takeaways for attendees. The program committee does not have time to read 10 page papers for each submission. - Talks about a use of LLVM (etc) should include details about how LLVM is used and not only be about the resulting application. - Tutorials on “how to use X” in LLVM (or other subproject) are greatly desired and beneficial to many developers. Entry level topics are encouraged as well. - Typically a few paragraphs are sufficient. Best regards, LLVM @ FOSDEM organisers

FOSDEM 2018 DNS devroom CfP
by Peter van Dijk 20 Nov '17

20 Nov '17

Hello DNS-enthusiasts and other developers, (the text below has also been posted at https://blog.powerdns.com/2017/11/20/fosdem-2018-dns-devroom-cfp/ and if anything changes, we'll update that post, so please check there if you have questions.) After two successful BoF sessions at FOSDEM 2016 and 2017, FOSDEM 2018 will see a real DNS devroom! We hope to host talks anywhere from hardcore protocol stuff, to practical sessions for programmers that are not directly involved with DNS but may have to deal with DNS in their day to day coding or system administrators responsible for DNS infrastructure. We have been allotted half a day on Sunday 4 February 2018. We expect to schedule 30 minutes per talk, including questions, but this is open to discussion. If you have something you'd like to share with your fellow developers, please head to pentabarf at https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18. Examples of topics are measuring, monitoring, DNS libraries, and anecdotes on how you've (ab)used the DNS. The deadline for submission is December 8th. If you have a FOSDEM pentabarf account from a previous year, please use that account. Reach out to dns-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org if you run into any trouble. We are also looking for volunteers to help with cameras etc. Please drop us an email at dns-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org if you're interested in helping out. See you there! Cheers, Peter van Dijk, Shane Kerr, Pieter Lexis

FOSDEM 2018: Graphics DevRoom: Call for speaker.
by Luc Verhaegen 19 Nov '17

19 Nov '17

Hi, At FOSDEM on saturday the 3rd of february 2018, there will be another graphics DevRoom. URL: https://fosdem.org/2018/ The focus of this DevRoom is of course the same as the previous editions, namely: * Graphics drivers: from display to media to 3d drivers, both in kernel or userspace. Be it part of DRM, KMS, (direct)FB, V4L, Xorg, Mesa... * Input drivers: kernel and userspace. * Windowing systems: X, Wayland, Mir, directFB, ... * Even colour management, low level toolkit stuff, and other areas which i might have overlooked above are accepted. Slots will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis. The best slots will go to those who apply the earliest. We have the devroom from 10:30 til 19:00, giving us 8h30, so eight 50 minute talkes and one 20 minute talk are available. Talk Submission: ---------------- Like the last few years, the pentabarf system will be used for talk submission. https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18 Remember that FOSDEM is not like XDC, it's not some 50 odd people meeting with a sliding schedule which only gets filled out on the last day. Upwards of 10000 people are visiting this event, and most of them get a printed booklet or use the schedule on the FOSDEM website or an app for their phone to figure out what to watch or participate in next. So please put some effort in your talk submission and details. Since this an open source community event, please refrain from turning in a talk that is a pure corporate or product commercial. Also, if you are unsure on whether you can come or not (this is FOSDEM, why are you not there anyway?), please wait with submitting your talk. Submitting a talk and then not turning up because you could not be bothered is a sure-fire way to get larted and then to never be allowed to talk again. When in pentabarf, please give the abstract and description, for both the event and the speaker, some thought. The abstract should be a shortened description, and the event abstract will sometimes even be printed directly in the booklet. BUT, on the website the abstract is immediately followed by the full description. If your abstract is fully descriptive, while terse, you might get away with just the abstract. All talks will be recorded, and will be streamed out live, and will later be made available as CC-BY after a few days. As for deadlines, the fosdem organizers want to have a finished schedule by the 15th of december. Don't count on this deadline: first come first serve! The worst slots will be assigned to those who come last, which could be pretty dire given that there is the traditional FOSDEM beer event the night before ;) Please try to re-use your accounts from the previous years, i hope that this year you can actually recycle your data. If you have forgotten your password, then you can reset it here: https://penta.fosdem.org/user/forgot_password If there are any issues, just poke me here or on IRC. Necessary information: ---------------------- Below is a list of what i need to see filled in in pentabarf when you apply for a devroom before i consider it a valid submission. Remember: first come, first serve. The best slots (which are on saturday afternoon) are for the earliest submissions. On your personal page: * General: * First and last name * Nickname * Image * Contact: * email address * mobile number (this is a very hard requirement as there will be no other reliable form of emergency communication on the day) * Description: * Abstract * Description Create an event: * On the General page: * Event title * Event subtitle. * Track: Graphics Devroom * Event type: Lecture (talk) or Meeting (BoF) * Persons: * Add yourself as speaker. * Description: * Abstract: * Full Description * Links: * Add relevant links. Everything else can be ignored or will be filled in by me or the FOSDEM organizers. Remember, i will only schedule your talk after the basics are somewhat filled in (you still can change them until december 15th). I will be keeping a keen eye on your submissions and will come back with further questions or make small fixes as needed. Feel free to poke me with any questions or anything, both on irc (libv@freenode) and on email. That's about it. Hope to see you all at FOSDEM :) Luc Verhaegen.

The Call for Presentations is still open: the deadline is Sunday 26 November 2017. Do you have a talk you want to give? Do you have a project you would like to present? Would you like to get more people involved with your project? We're inviting proposals that are related to Ada software development, and include a technical oriented discussion. You're not limited to slide presentations, of course. Be creative. Propose something fun to share with people so they might feel some of your enthusiasm for Ada! An important goal is to present exciting Ada technology and projects also to people outside the traditional Ada community. Speaking slots are 25 or 50 minutes, including Q&A. Depending on interest, we might also organize a session with lightning presentations (e.g. 5 minutes each). Please provide a proposed title, the preferred length, plus an abstract and a short bio similar in style as on the program for previous Ada DevRooms, see for example [1]. We need that to put the draft program together by early December. Please react ASAP, and submit proposals by November 26, 2017, or contact us if you need more time. We're looking forward to more proposals! FOSDEM 2018 - Tool the Docs devroom - CFP
by Kristof Van Tomme 17 Nov '17

17 Nov '17

We are super excited to announce the “Tool the Docs” devroom at FOSDEM 2018! With it we want to focus on free and open source tools for writing, managing, testing and rendering documentation. It will run on Sunday 4th February for half a day. *Why to present FOSDEM is one of the largest gatherings of Free Software contributors in the world and happens each year in Brussels (Belgium) at the ULB Campus Solbosch. In 2018, it will be held on Saturday, February 3, and Sunday, February 4. We are inviting proposals for talks on the subjects above, plus any related topics you think might fit into the devroom. We welcome proposals from those working with tools for documentation as well as those creating and maintaining them. This is a great opportunity to show new ideas and developments to a technical audience from a wide range of free and open source communities. Please do keep in mind that product pitches are not allowed at FOSDEM. *How to submit We are accepting talks of 20-30 minutes, with time for questions afterward. If you want less or more time, please let us know in your submission. All submissions have to be made in the Pentabarf event planning tool: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18. <http://llink.to/?u=https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM18.&e=892dee73…> While creating your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself (name, bio, and photo, but remember that your profile might be already stored in Pentabarf). *Getting started with Pentabarf 1. Don’t panick! 2. To submit your talk, click on “Create Event”, then select the “Tool the Docs” devroom as the “Track”. Otherwise, your talk can’t even be considered for a devroom at FOSDEM! 3. If you already have a Pentabarf account from a previous year, even if your talk was not accepted, please reuse it. Create an account if, and only if, you don’t have one from a previous year. If you have any issues with Pentabarf, please contact ode-devroom-manager at fosdem.org. *Deadline The deadline is December 12th, 2017. Accepted speakers will be notified by December 30th, 2017. *Recording Permission The talks in the Tool the Docs devroom will be audio and video recorded, and possibly streamed live too. In the “Submission notes” field, please indicate that you agree to have your presentation recorded and published under the same license as all FOSDEM content (CC-BY). For example: “If my speech is accepted for FOSDEM, I hereby agree to be recorded and to have recordings - including slides and other presentation related documents - published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) 4.0 International License. Sincerely, Name”. See you at FOSDEM!

Submitting to *both* devroom and lightning talks track allowed?
by Daniel Kulesz 14 Nov '17

14 Nov '17

Dear FOSDEM-organizers, we would like to apply for presenting a new project at FOSDEM which would fit both as a "general" lightning talk and also partly in the "testing and automation" devroom (our project is about testing, but not so much about automation). We are unsure, whether we are allowed to (1) submit only one lightning talk (having to decide for either the lightning talk track or the devroom) (2) submit a lightning talk to both tracks (3) submit a lightning talk to the general track and a specialized 30-40 min talk to the devroom We could not find any regulations concerning this and, thus, would like to ask which of the above options is allowed. Many thanks in advance. Cheers, Daniel
