by Andrea Pescetti 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

FOSDEM 15 will be held at the ULB Campus Solbosch on Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1st, 2015. Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related developments and innovations. The devroom is jointly organized by Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice. We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to be held on Saturday, January 31, from 10AM to 6PM. Length of talks should be limited to 20 minutes, as we would like to have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly requested and justified. Technical talks (code, extensions, localization, QA, tools and adoption related cases) about open document editors or the ODF document format are welcome. Submissions must be done by the speakers using the Pentabarf system: https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15 While filing your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself (name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be already stored at Pentabarf) and specify what topic (Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice, other ODF editors, ODF in general...) your talk is about. You do not need to create a new account if you already have one. If the password has been lost, you can easily recover it. The deadline is Sunday, December 14, 2014. Accepted speakers will be notified by December 28, 2014. You can send any questions to the devroom mailing list: open-document-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org

Valgrind developer room at FOSDEM 2015 (Brussels, Belgium, 31 January). FOSDEM is a free software event that offers open source communities a place to meet, share ideas and collaborate. It is renown for being highly developer-oriented and brings together 5000+ hackers from all over the world. It is held in the city of Brussels (Belgium). http://fosdem.org/ FOSDEM 2015 will take place during the weekend of Saturday, 31 January and Sunday 1 February 2015. On Saturday we will have a devroom for Valgrind. Devrooms are a place for development teams to meet, discuss, hack and publicly present the project's latest improvements and future directions. We will have a whole day to hang out together as Valgrind community. Please join us, regardless of whether you are a Valgrind core hacker, Valgrind tool hacker, Valgrind user, Valgrind packager or hacker on a project that integrates, extends or complements Valgrind. Call For Participation We would like to organize a series of talks/discussions on various topics relevant to both core hackers, new developers, users, packagers and cross project functionality. Please do submit a talk proposal by Monday 1 December 2014, so we can make a list of activities during the day. Some possible topics for talks/discussions are: - Recently added functional changes (for valgrind users). - State of the valgrind code base (core hackers). - Speeding up Memcheck by inlining of the fast cases of its helper function calls (core hackers). - Supporting Valgrind on MacOS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.10 (Yosemite) (valgrind developers and users). - The AArch64 ARMv8 port (valgrind developers and users). - Valgrind and Wine (valgrind developers and users). - Helgrind - basic design, problems and opportunities (core and tools). - Get feedback on what what kinds of new functionality would be useful. Which tools users would like to see and/or which new features for the existing tools. (valgrind developers and users). - Modify memcheck to report the last leaked pointer to a block integrate "omega" as a memcheck option or omega as a separate tool. - Better support compiled and JITted code. allowing the JIT compiler to indicate the link between the JITted code and the source code. - Valgrind and transactional memory. - How to add simple features (adding syscalls for a platform or VEX instructions for a architecture port). (new core developers). - Making Valgrind really multi-threaded, parallelising Memcheck parallelising the rest of the framework, and tools (for core hackers). - Should we continue to support MacOS? What about Valgrind on MS-Windows? Solaris? (attracting new hackers). - Redo the JIT framework to reduce baseline overheads? (core hackers). - Make Callgrind work sanely on ARM (core hackers). - Discuss release/bugfixing strategy/policy (core hackers, packagers). - Packaging valgrind for distros, handling patches, suppressions, etc. (packagers). - Valgrind/GDB integration (cross project). - Valgrind vs the compiler. Compilers like GCC and clang now have "valgrind like" features, eg -fsanitize=address|thread|undefined. How does valgrind complement or improve on these features? - Eclipse and other visualisation tools for valgrind (cross project). - Practical examples of using Valgrind in (big) system automatic regression testing (users). Use the FOSDEM 'pentabarf' tool to submit your proposal. https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15/ - If necessary, create a Pentabarf account and activate it. - In the "Person" section, provide First name, Last name (in the "General" tab), Email (in the "Contact" tab) and Bio ("Abstract" field in the "Description" tab). - Submit a proposal by clicking on "Create event". - Important! Select the "Valgrind devroom" track (on the "General" tab). - Provide the title of your talk ("Event title" in the "General" tab). - Provide a description of the subject of the talk and the intended audience (in the "Abstract" field of the "Description" tab) - Provide a rough outline of the talk or goals of the session (a short list of bullet points covering topics that will be discussed) in the "Full description" field in the "Description" tab Julian, Philippe and Mark will review the proposals and organize the schedule for the day. Please feel free to suggest or discuss any ideas for the devroom on the Valgrind developer mailinglist before creating a proposal: valgrind-developers(a)lists.sourceforge.net Recording of talks This year the FOSDEM organisers plan to have live streaming and recording fully working, both for remote/later viewing of talks, and so that people can watch streams in the hallways when rooms are full. This obviously requires speakers to consent to being recorded and streamed. If you plan to be a speaker, please understand that by doing so you implicitly give consent for your talk to be recorded and streamed. The recordings will be published under the same licence as all FOSDEM content (CC-BY). Important dates: Talk/Discussion Submission deadline: Monday 1 Dec 2014 Devroom Schedule announcement: Monday 15 Dec 2014 Devroom day: Saturday 31 Jan 2015 Hope to see you all at FOSDEM 2015 in the Valgrind devroom. CfP - Ada Developer Room at FOSDEM 2015, Brussels, Belgium
by Dirk Craeynest 02 Nov '14

02 Nov '14

----------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Presentations 6th Ada Developer Room at FOSDEM 2015 Saturday 31 January 2015, Brussels, Belgium http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~dirk/ada-belgium/events/15/150131-fosdem.html Organized in cooperation with Ada-Europe ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ada-Belgium [1] is pleased to announce that there will be a one-day Ada Developer Room on Saturday 31 January 2015 at FOSDEM 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. This Ada DevRoom is once more organized in cooperation with Ada-Europe [2]. General Information ------------------- FOSDEM [3], the Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting, is a free and non-commercial two-day weekend event organized early each year in Brussels, Belgium. It is highly developer-oriented and brings together 5000+ participants from all over the world. No registration is necessary. The goal is to provide open source developers and communities a place to meet with other developers and projects, to be informed about the latest developments in the open source world, to attend interesting talks and presentations on various topics by open source project leaders and committers, and to promote the development and the benefits of open source solutions. Ada Developer Room ------------------ At previous FOSDEM events, Ada-Belgium has organized very well attended Ada Developer Rooms, offering a full day program in 2006 [4], a two-day program in 2009 [5], and full day programs in 2012 [6], 2013 [7] and 2014 [8]. An important goal is to present exciting Ada technology and projects also to people outside the traditional Ada community. Our proposal for another dedicated Ada DevRoom was accepted, and now work continues to prepare the detailed program. We most probably will have a total of 8 schedulable hours between 10:00 and 18:00 in a room which holds some 60 participants. More information will be posted on the dedicated web-page on the Ada-Belgium site [9], and final announcements will of course also be sent to various forums, lists and newsgroups. Call for Presentations ---------------------- Ada-Belgium calls on you to: - inform us at ada-belgium-board(a)cs.kuleuven.be about specific presentations you would like to see in this Ada DevRoom; - for bonus points, subscribe to the Ada-FOSDEM mailing list [9] to discuss and help organize the details; - for more bonus points, be a speaker: the Ada-FOSDEM mailing list is the place to be! Do you have a talk you want to give? Do you have a project you would like to present? Would you like to get more people involved with your project? We're inviting proposals that are related to Ada software development, and include a technical oriented discussion. You're not limited to slide presentations, of course. Be creative. Propose something fun to share with people so they might feel some of your enthusiasm for Ada! Speaking slots are 25 or 50 minutes, including Q&A. Depending on interest, we might also have a session with lightning presentations (e.g. 5 minutes each). We'd like to put together a draft schedule early December. So, please act ASAP, and definitely by November 30, 2014 at the latest. We look forward to lots of feedback and proposals! 01 Nov '14

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 FOSDEM GraphDevroom 2015 Call for Participation (CfP) ++ Please do feel free to forward this CfP to anyone who you do think might be able to contribute to the GraphDevroom ++ Devroom day: 31. January 2015 Location: Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium CfP deadline: Sunday, 7. December 2014 We are happy to announce the 4th edition of the Graph Devroom co-located with FOSDEM 2015 at the UniversitÈ Libre de Bruxelles (Campus Solbosch) in Belgium. FOSDEM is an annually software developers meeting attended by over 5000 free and open source enthusiasts from all over the world. The devroom will take place on Saturday, 31. January 2015 with a welcome at 9:45, and talks from 10AM till 18PM. For the last 6 years graph processing systems are gaining an emerging impact for processing complex semi-structured interrelated and distributed data sets. Thanks to many high quality open source implementations and outstanding community support, this movement is still winning a lot of momentum. The past year had again been full of impressive developments: e.g. Neo4j 2.1 with improved Cypher query processing, OrientDB 2.0, first pre-releases of the LDBC benchmark suites, Stardog 2.2, Sparksee 5.1, Structr 1.0, GraphHopper for OSM routing, a new graph traversal framework called Steffi.io (imGraph), the Bitsy database and Pixy query language, and even SAP, Intel and Oracle joined the movement. In previous devrooms a lot of great presentations and demos had been given and substantiated discussions took place. Therefore, also in 2015 we will again give researchers, geeks and open source hackers the possibility of an awesome meet up for showing each other their recent work and improvements. This includes: - Graph databases, RDF stores and specialized databases - Graph Query Languages (like e.g. Gremlin, Cypher or SPARQL) and user-friendly APIs - (Distributed) Graph Processing Frameworks - Semantic Graphs (RDF) - Graph and RDF Benchmarks - Geographic Information Systems and Graphs (Routing et al.) - (Large-Scale) Graph Visualization - Graphs and the Internet-of-Things - Real-life application of graph processing including industry experience This list is not closed, other related topics are always welcome. - -= Submit your idea =- Convinced?
