----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preliminary Announcement and Call for Talks 4th Ada Developer Room at FOSDEM 2013 Sunday 3 February 2013, Brussels, Belgium Organized in cooperation with Ada-Europe http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~dirk/ada-belgium/events/13/130203-fosdem.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ada-Belgium [1] is pleased to announce that there will be a one-day Ada Developer Room on Sunday 3 February 2013 at FOSDEM 2013 in Brussels, Belgium. This Ada DevRoom is once more organized in cooperation with Ada-Europe [2]. FOSDEM [3], the Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting, is a free and non-commercial two-day weekend event organized each February in Brussels, Belgium. The goal is to provide Free Software and Open Source developers and communities a place to meet with other developers and projects, to be informed about the latest developments in the Free Software and Open Source world, to attend interesting talks and presentations held in large conference rooms by Free Software and Open Source project leaders and committers on various topics, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software and Open Source solutions. At previous FOSDEM events, Ada-Belgium has organized some very well attended Ada Developer Rooms, offering a full day program in 2006 [4], a two-day program in 2009 [5], and another full day program in 2012 [6]. One of our important goals is to present Ada also to people outside the traditional Ada community. Our proposal for another dedicated Ada DevRoom was accepted recently, and now work continues to prepare the detailed program. We most probably will have a total of 8 schedulable hours between 09:00 and 17:00. More information will be posted later on the dedicated web-page on the Ada-Belgium site, and final announcements will of course also be sent to various lists and newsgroups. Ada-Belgium calls on you to: - inform us at ada-belgium-board(a)cs.kuleuven.be about specific presentations you would like to hear in this Ada DevRoom; - for bonus points, subscribe to the Ada-FOSDEM mailing list [7] to discuss and help organize the details; - for more bonus points, be a speaker: the Ada-FOSDEM mailing list is the place to be! We'd like to put together a draft schedule by the end of November. So, please act ASAP. We look forward to lots of feedback! LibreOffice DevRoom @ FOSDEM 2013
by Italo Vignoli 04 Nov '12

04 Nov '12

FOSDEM 2013, Brussels, February 2/3, 2013 FOSDEM has been the first public appearance of The Document Foundation, after the release of LibreOffice 3.3 at the end of January 2011. The conference has been instrumental, so far, for the extraordinary growth of LibreOffice hackers community. FOSDEM 2013 should escalate what we have been able to achieve in 2011 and 2012! FOSDEM 2013 will be your next chance ever for a talk about LibreOffice at the largest European gathering of free software developers and advocates. Do you want to share your experience in starting to hack the code, or tell about the tweaks in your build environment, or talk about the code changes you have done or those that you have been preparing, or share some insight on your QA work? Or maybe what you plan for translation or infrastructure? Please submit your speech proposal on the wiki (http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Events/Fosdem2013) by adding the information on a copy of the table. We really like you to share in the way that fits you best, be it 5, 15 or up to 30 minutes. We might have to choose between the various proposals, as time is limited. So please give a clear description of your talk, including goals and target audience. The deadline is December 23, 2012. This will allow the DevRoom managers to spend most of their holiday time by putting together the schedule, which will be published in early January 2013 in order to allow early booking of flights and accommodations. FOSDEM is a free conference to attend, and we will try to seek sponsorship. But funding is limited, so please only request it if you cannot attend otherwise, and we will try to do our best to support you. LibreOffice DevRoom Come and hear about the growth and success of LibreOffice and how you can get involved in this exciting project at the cutting edge of Free Software. Hear from many of the core developers, work out how best to get your most annoying problems fixed, and find how best to get plugged into the team. Co-ordinate with your co-developers, get caught up with the latest developments all over the project, meet friends you've hacked with on-line, all this and more. If you're just a user and want to go deeper, to help improve things we'll have something for you too. When and where? On Sunday, February 3rd, 2013, from 09:00 onwards. We have to leave the room by 17:30 at the latest. Call for sessions: cross-distributions devroom
by Wouter Verhelst 28 Oct '12

28 Oct '12

Hello World, This is the official call for sessions for the FOSDEM 2013 cross-distributions devroom. As in previous years, any session relating to distributions development is welcome. Since this is an opportunity for different distributions to cooperate, we're specifically looking for sessions that are of interest to people from multiple distributions; however, if you have something interesting to talk about that is of more interest to just one particular distribution, that is certainly welcome too. Sessions can be things like talks, roundtables, or BoFs; anything is welcome. However, please note that for roundtables or BoFs, I'd still like one or more people to step up as moderator, who'll be listed as 'speaker' on the schedule. If you want to hold a session in the distributions devroom, please send an email to the distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist, containing the following information: - Your name - A (short) bio - (optionally) a picture - A title for the talk - A description of the talk (just a paragraph or two will do) - Your desired timeslot duration (30 or 60 minutes) - If you already have that information, your availability during the FOSDEM weekend to help us schedule the sessions. And this no later than december 20th, 2012, which is two months less one week from now. That isn't a lot of time, so please don't hesitate too long in proposing a session. Please also forward this call for sessions to your appropriate distribution-specific mailinglist(s), so we can actually get some sessions to appear. Thanks, -- Copyshops should do vouchers. So that next time some bureaucracy requires you to mail a form in triplicate, you can mail it just once, add a voucher, and save on postage.

FOSDEM2013 - Open Source Game Development: Call for Speakers
by Nils Kneuper 27 Oct '12

27 Oct '12

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 FOSDEM2013 - Open Source Game Development: Call for Speakers FOSDEM2013 will host a devroom centered on the development of Free and Open Source Games. Possible speakers (and topic suggestions) are invited to make their proposals. The game development devroom takes place on Sunday, February 3th, 09:00 - 17:00 (exact times might still change) in a room in building AW (76 seats). As topics anything regarding Open Source Game Development is allowed and wanted. This includes talks about game specific areas like AI development as well as community integration, artwork (graphics and sound), translations in the context of games, integration of usermade content, cross platform porting (e.g. to mobile devices like phones) or whatever else you might find. If you are interested in seeing a list of last years talks, please head over to [1]. FOSDEM is a conference centered on technical topics, as a result, the talks ought to cover technical issues that are relevant to open source game development. Speakers are encouraged to draw on their own experience as game developers in order to convey a message that is of interest to the game development community as a whole. The sessions are not limited to just holding a talk. If you have an idea e.g. moderating a discussion round, this can also be a session. People interested in holding a session should let that intention be known on the open-source-gamedev-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist[2], with the following information: - - Their name - - The project they are associated with - - A (short) bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - - (optionally) a picture of themselves - - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - - A (short) abstract describing the session in further detail. - - The desired approximate duration for the session. - - The desired timeslot in which they want to hold the session. Suggested times for the duration are 45min. Please keep in mind that the times are *very* strict. So better go for less and assume some extra time to be used for discussions and questions. The desired timeslot is meant to help you preventing conflicts with other dev rooms in which you might have a talk or your travel arrangements. The deadline for submissions is December 16th, 23:00 GMT+1. The list of accepted sessions will most likely be published on the open-source-gamedev-devroom(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist[2] until December 23rd, 23:00 GMT+1. All accepted speakers will also be mailed separately. For the devroom I am also looking for help regarding offering audio and possibly video recordings. FOSDEM can't provide us with the equipment, so if you have a cam or a usable voice recorder (last year a participant was able to do audiorecordings of the talks 2 to 8) and would be willing to record talks your help and support would be appreciated. For speakers please also state if you are fine with your talks being recorded and published on the FOSDEM servers afterwards. FOSDEM can not offer reimbursements for travel or hotel costs, so every speaker will have to cover the costs themselves. Looking forward to meeting you in the Open Source Game Development Devroom at FOSDEM 2013, Nils Kneuper [1] https://archive.fosdem.org/2012/schedule/track/open_source_game_development… [2] https://lists.fosdem.org/listinfo/open-source-gamedev-devroom -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAlCL5bUACgkQfFda9thizwVMHACfVkMSaE26PNhSaF5MxW0ZTMyL MXcAn0/+ww9Cr9fcag73zl9A2FcVUZl6 =BnXr -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
