Schedule available on the website
by Philip Paeps 25 Jan '11

25 Jan '11

We're happy to announce that the FOSDEM11 schedule is now available on the website. Note that some devrooms have not submitted their final (public) schedules to Pentabarf yet, so there are are still some holes here and there. http://fosdem.org/2011/schedule/ I believe there's a cronjob (or a sleepless volunteer) running to keep the website in sync with reality. Do let us know if you spot any glitches. - Philip [on behalf of the "spit and duct tape" team] -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list. Request to do smartcard training in a room somewhere at FOSDEM
by Jean-Michel Pouré - GOOZE 24 Jan '11

24 Jan '11

Dear all, There were some discussions about having a training corner inside the security dev-room, but knowing FOSDEM, I don't know whether this is possible to have two discussions in the same room. We would like to offer a training on smartcards, security tokens and One-Time Passwords. There will be free hardware for people having a free-software project (we already gave dozens of smarcards to projects). All this is all about free software, there is no proprietary solution involved. Is there a place where I could sit on a table and offer training? Is there some kind of training room at FOSDEM, where people learn how to install Debian or Ubuntu. This would be fine for me. I admit this is a little bit late, but please consider there was no suitable solution at security dev-room. Kind regards, Jean-Michel POURE -- Jean-Michel Pouré - Gooze - http://www.gooze.eu

program preview, xml/xcal/ical exports
by Mattias 'Tias' Guns 21 Jan '11

21 Jan '11

FOSDEM is nearing and everybody is getting pretty excited. For a preview of all the wonderful talks that will be happening at FOSDEM, see http://fosdem.org/2011/preview-program Note that timings and details can still change; especially for devrooms and lightning talks. The XML, xcal and ical exports are available again too. It should be the same format as last year (using the latest pentabarf v0.4.4 this time). A full schedule will be published on the website in the coming days. Happy preparations, Tias

Hello, I may be in Brussels since Jan 29 and stay a week there. I would like to know if there are any other events before FOSDEM, maybe anything where I can help etc. I am also looking for any contacts to get in touch while being in Brussels. If possible, I would also appreciate some help with accommodation, since I have never been there before. Thank you and best regards, Dashamir Hoxha IM: dashohoxha(a)jabber.fsfe.org Mob: +355 692501878 GPG: 4F97 4EDE C739 4C3D 361E 16D3 FD06 AA8E 55D5 9B28

Film on FOSDEM
by Jakub Szypulka 19 Jan '11

19 Jan '11

Hey guys, I'm Jakub Szypulka, on the one hand a Tango icon designer, thus a member of the open source community, on the other hand a videographer and composer. For the last Libre Graphics Meeting (a conference on open source graphic design), which also happened to be in Brussels last year, I shot a film which you can see here http://vimeo.com/18568225 . As you can see, it is entirely different from static tripod recordings of the talks, which serve a completely different purpose. The goal of the recordings is to provide a means for people who cannot attend the conference but would like to see the speeches or for archival purposes, whereas the film I shot let's people, attendee or not, grasp a glimpse of the atmosphere at the conference. This is especially nice to watch months after a conference. As you can also see, there are maybe 15 seconds total of actual speech scenes, and everything else is from meeting, workshops and simple human interactions. tl;dr: Would the FOSDEM be interested in a film like the one the Libre Graphics Meeting got here http://vimeo.com/18568225 ? Thanks, Jake
