[CFP] Hardware-Aided Trusted Computing Devroom
by Jo Van Bulck 07 Dec '20

07 Dec '20

for updates check: https://jovanbulck.github.io/fosdem21-cfp Following the success of [last year's edition](https://archive.fosdem.org/2020/schedule/track/hardware_aided_trus…, we are for the 2nd time organizing a devroom devoted to the emerging open-source ecosystem around *hardware-based Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs)*. Under TEEs, we understand architectures that allow to isolate and attest trusted "enclave" software components running on top of a potentially compromised operating system. Over the last years, all major processor vendors have developed some form of TEE support, e.g., Intel's [Software Guard Extensions (SGX)](https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/topics/software-…) and upcoming [Trust Domain Extensions (TDX)](https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/intel-t…) ARM's [TrustZone](https://developer.arm.com/ip-products/security-ip/trustzone) and upcoming [Morello](https://developer.arm.com/architectures/cpu-architecture/a-profile…, AMD's [Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV)](https://developer.amd.com/sev/) and upcoming SEV-ES/SEV-SNP extensions, and IBM's [Protected Execution Facility (PEF)](https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/powerpc/ultravisor.html) Hence, with today's mainstream consumer hardware being increasingly shipped with these advanced trusted computing technologies, this devroom wants to foster discussion on the much-needed open-source TEE ecosystem amongst industry players, academics, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and project maintainers. ## Desirable topics The devroom's topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Programming frameworks for TEEs: how to develop free and open-source software that can run inside enclaves (e.g., library OSs, SDKs, Linux kernel support, etc.). * Compiler and language support for emerging trusted hardware extensions. * Open-source enclave processor designs (e.g., RISC-V TEEs). * Use cases and applications on top of TEEs. * TEE-specific attacks and defenses: reverse engineering, side-channels, vulnerabilities, exploits. * Vision: future TEEs (what is missed, proposals, wishes, discussions). ## New rules: What changes since last year For obvious reasons, this year the event will not take place in a physical location but online. * The reference time will be [Brussels local lime (CET)](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/belgium/brussels) * Talks will be pre-recorded in advance, and streamed during the event. * Q/A session will be take live. * A facility will be provided for people watching to chat between themselves. * A facility will be provided for people watching to submit questions. * Once your talk was accepted, we will assign you a deputy to help you to produce the pre-recorded content. * During the stream of your talk, you must be available online for the Q/A session ## Key dates * <mark>Submission deadline: 23 December 2020</mark> * Announcement of selected talks: 31 December 2020 * Conference dates 6 & 7 February 2021 **(online)** * Hardware-Aided Trusted Computing devroom date: Saturday 6 February 2021 **(online)** ## Submit a talk proposal Submissions are required to proceed through the [FOSDEM 2021 Pentabarf website](https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM21). Create an "event" and click on "Show all" in the top right corner to display the full form. Your submission must include the following information: * Your contact email. * The title (and possible subtitle) of your talk: please be descriptive, as the audience will have to choose to attend your talk out of a listing with ~500 talks from other projects at FOSDEM. * Select "Hardware-Aided Trusted Computing devroom" as the track. * A short abstract of one paragraph. * A longer description if you wish to do so. * Links to related websites / blogs etc. ## Contact and organizers * Main organizer: Jo Van Bulck (jo.vanbulck(a)cs.kuleuven.be) * The devroom is supported by the [Confidential Computing Consortium](https://confidentialcomputing.io/).

[CFP] Graph Systems and Algorithms Devroom
by Max Kiessling 06 Dec '20

06 Dec '20

The return of the graph. It has been a troublesome year with many ups and downs, but we still want to give researchers, developers, practitioners and whoever else is interested, the opportunity to come together and talk about the latest advancements in the open source graph world. We think that especially now it is important to create a space where people can share their ideas and gain new inspirations FOSDEM is an annual software developers meeting attended by over 8000+ free and open source enthusiasts from all over the world. Caused by the global pandemic, the FOSDEM 2021 will be the first ever online-only FOSDEM event. The devroom will take place on Saturday, 6th February 2021 In the last year, many organizations added graph analytical capabilities to their systems, e.g. Neo4j, Arango DB and Redis graph, to fulfill the rising demand of analytical use-cases, often to be executed on a steadily growing amount of data. Graph based data science and machine learning approaches are becoming more and more popular with approaches like graph embeddings and graph neural networks. Graph query languages became mainstream. GQL, an effort driven by many graph database vendors, will be the first query language since SQL standardized by the ISO. Research groups work on standardizing property graph schemas. In previous devrooms we saw many great presentations and demos. We hope that we will be able to capture some of the spirit of an onsite event and provide a space for actors and maintainers of graph solutions, researchers, geeks and open source hackers the possibility of presenting their latest work. As always, the devroom will invite both, beginners and experts. Find all information at http://graphdevroom.github.io/ == Topics == - Graph Data Science - Graph based feature engineering, Graph Neural Networks, etc. - Graph applications - Research, use-cases, industry experience - Graph Processing / Analytics Frameworks - Neo4j Graph Algorithms, PGX, etc. - Graph database systems - Neo4j, ArangoDB, etc. - Graph Query Languages - (open)Cypher, GQL, PGQL, GraphQL, etc. - Graph Streaming and its applications - Benchmarks - LDBC Graphalytics, etc. - Graph Visualization This list is not closed, other related topics are always welcome. == How to apply == *Important Note* The 2021 edition of FOSDEM will be an online-only event. We will therefore prerecord all talks and perform a live Q&A after every presentation. Presenting at FOSDEM implies permission to record your session and distribute the recording afterwards. All videos will be made available under the standard FOSDEM content license (CC-BY). Talks are submitted via FOSDEM's conference system *Pentabarf*. In order to submit a talk please follow these steps: 1. Head over to https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM21 2. Create an account if you do not have one already and sign in 3. Make sure your profile information is up to date, including an image and a biographie 4. Click on "Create Event" 5. Enter the details of your talk - The title and a short abstract describing your presentation/demo/talk (max. 500 words) - The intended audience - Links and background information - Additional information you want to share with use, e.g., your availability for the Q&A 6. Make sure to select the "Graph Systems and Algorithms devroom" track 7. Make sure to select a duration of either 20 or 40 minutes (including 5 minutes Q&A) == Important Dates == - 2020-12-13 - Devroom CFP starts - 2020-12-26 - Devroom CFP ends - 2020-12-31 - Announcement of the accepted talks - 2021-01-04 - 2021-01-16 - Submission of the recordings - 2021-01-16 - 2021-01-31 - Recordings are reviewed and fixed if needed - 2021-02-06 - Graph Systems and Algorithms Devroom - 2021-02-07 - FOSDEM ends See you soon

virtual presence "stands" on FOSDEM
by Kristoff 05 Dec '20

05 Dec '20

Hi all, Small question: We hosted the infostand on Amateur-Radio on FOSDEM for some years now. Off course, as FOSDEM 2021 will be held online, there are no real 'physical' stands next year, ... but has something been foreseen to allow standholders to be virtually present at fosdem 2021 (i.e. on the official FOSDEM website)? Just as all devrooms now organise presentations via online video-presentation, the standholders can do the same. But, making an online video-presentation or online chat-session is only useful, if people find them. I do not know how exactly FOSDEM plans to organise their event, but would it be possible for standholder that hold a virtual online presence that weekend to get a place on the official FOSDEM website? Also, for standholders that plan to organise an online-event at time, it would be nice if that would also get a place on the official FOSDEM calender of the weekend. This would surely would make our events more 'visible' for all the (virtual) visitors of FOSDEM. Thanks in advance. Kr. Bonne,

FOSDEM 2021: Free Software Radio Devroom CfP
by Nicolas Cuervo Benavides 05 Dec '20

05 Dec '20

Dear friends and fans of software-defined radio and free/open-source radio topics in general, FOSDEM 2021 (the free and open-source developer's meeting usually in Brussels, Europe but **this time virtually**) will again feature a track on Software Defined Radio and any other radio-related topics in the Free Software Radio devroom. Therefore, we invite developers and users from the free software radio community to join us for this track and present your talks or demos. Given the current circumstances and the virtual nature of this event in 2021, we are asking the presenters to pre-record the talks, which will then be gathered by us and streamed during the event. Presenters are also asked to be present online during their timeslot for live Q&A. Software Radio has become an important tool to allow anyone to access the EM spectrum. Using free software radio libraries and applications and cheap hardware, anyone can now start hacking on wireless communications, remote sensing, radar, fun hacks of all sorts, or other applications. At FOSDEM, we hope to network all these projects, and improve collaboration, bring new ideas forward and get more people involved. The track's website resides at the link below. The final schedule will be available through Pentabarf and the official FOSDEM website. Notice that the reference time will be Brussels local time (CET). https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/track/free_software_radio/ Additional Information will be also available at: https://wiki.gnuradio.org/index.php/FOSDEM_2021 ** Submit your presentations To suggest a talk, go to https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM21 and follow the instructions (you need an account, but can use your account from last year if you have one. Please do NOT create a new account if you already have one). You need to create an 'Event'; make sure it's in the Free Software Radio track! Your submission should have the following information: * Your contact Email * A descriptive title and subtitle of your talk * A short abstract * Links related to the project * [Optional] A longer description of the content of your talk. Lengths aren't fixed, but give a realistic estimate, and please don't exceed 30 minutes unless you have something special planned (in that case, contact one of us). We will typically go for 30-minute slots -- shorter talks, unless they're really short, usually tend to screw up the schedule too much. You aren't limited to slide presentations, of course. Be creative. However, FOSDEM is an open-source conference, therefore we ask you to stay clear of marketing presentations and present something relevant to free/open software. We like nitty-gritty technical stuff. Topics discussed in this devroom include: * SDR Frameworks + Tools * Cellular/telecoms software * Free/Open SDR hardware * Wireless security * Random fun wireless hacks * SDR in education * Satellite/spacecraft communication * Ham radio related topics ** Important Dates * Submission deadline: 26 December 2020 * Announcement of selected talks: 31 December 2020 * Conference dates 6 & 7 February 2021 online * Free software radio devroom date: Sunday 7 February 2021 online In the last years we were always full to the brim with presentations, so if you want to present, please make sure to submit your abstracts soon! ** Following steps for accepted talks When your talk is accepted, you will be contacted by a deputy who will help you with the pre-recording of your talk. Together you will make sure that the content has the required quality and is stream-ready. When complete, the recording will be located into the streaming system, and Bob's your uncle. Don't forget that you **must** be available during the allocated timeslot of your talk for live Q&A. ** Steering Committee The track committee consists of: * Phil Balister - "Crofton" * Derek Kozel - "dkozel" * Nicolas Cuervo - "primercuervo" * Martin Braun - "mbr0wn" Hope to hear from you soon! And please forward this announcement. - Nicolas
