by Quentin Monnet 30 Oct '25

30 Oct '25

We are delighted to announce the Call for Participation for the second eBPF Devroom at FOSDEM! Mark the Dates -------------- * December 1st, 2025: Submission deadline * December 15th, 2025: Announcement of accepted talks and schedule * January 31st, 2026: eBPF Devroom at FOSDEM eBPF at FOSDEM -------------- Originally introduced to make the Linux kernel more programmable, eBPF allows users to load safe and efficient programs into the kernel, in order to implement custom logic running on specific events. The main use cases include kernel or user-space tracing and monitoring, network packet processing, security policies enforcement, and process scheduling. Today, eBPF also extends to Windows, user-space runtimes, and hardware offloads. The depth of the ecosystem has expanded far beyond its original goals and has seen increasing adoption from both enthusiasts and professionals within the open-source community, while the list of use cases and eBPF-based projects continues to grow. After hosting a number of eBPF-related talks in various devrooms over the years, FOSDEM 2026 welcomes a devroom dedicated to eBPF for the second time! This devroom aims at gathering talks about various aspects of eBPF, ideally on multiple platforms. Topics of Interest ------------------ FOSDEM is an event centered on free and open-source software development, and brings the opportunity to reach a large audience of knowledgeable, highly technical open-source software activists. If you have something to present about eBPF, we would love for you to consider submitting a proposal to the Devroom. The projects or technologies discussed in the talks MUST be open-source. Topics of interest for the Devroom include (but are not limited to): * eBPF development: recent or proposed features (on Linux, on other platforms, or even cross-platform), such as: * eBPF program signing and supply chain security * Profiling eBPF with eBPF * eBPF-based process schedulers * eBPF in storage devices * eBPF verifier improvements or alternative implementations * eBPF for profiling AI workloads * Deep-dives on existing eBPF features * Working with eBPF: best practices, common mistakes, debugging, etc. * eBPF toolchain, for compiling, managing, debugging, packaging, and deploying eBPF programs and related objects * eBPF libraries, in C/C++, Go, Rust, or other languages * eBPF in the real world, production use cases and their impact * eBPF community efforts (documentation, standardization, cross-platform initiatives) The list is not exhaustive, don’t hesitate to submit your proposal! Format ------ FOSDEM 2026 will be an in-person event in Brussels, Belgium. We do not accept remote presentations. We’re looking for 20- to 30-minute presentations. The duration should include time for questions: allow at least 5 to 10 minutes to answer questions from the public. Note that due to time constraints, we may end up offering a slot duration different than the one requested when submitting. If you have specific duration requirements, we encourage you to mention them in your proposal. You can look at last year's schedule for inspiration, at https://archive.fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/ebpf/ How to Submit ------------- Please submit your proposals on Pretalx, FOSDEM’s submissions tool, at https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2026/cfp Make sure to select “eBPF” as the track. Code of Conduct --------------- All participants at FOSDEM are expected to abide by the FOSDEM’s Code of Conduct. If your proposal is accepted, you will be required to confirm that you accept this Code of Conduct. You can find this code at https://fosdem.org/2026/practical/conduct/ Devroom Organisers ------------------ * Alexei Starovoitov * Andrii Nakryiko * Bill Mulligan * Daniel Borkmann * Dimitar Kanaliev * Quentin Monnet * Yusheng Zheng If you have questions about any aspects of this Call for Participation, please email us at ebpf-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org, and we will do our best to assist you. 28 Oct '25

Hello everyone, We are excited to announce that for the fourth time there will be an Energy devroom at FOSDEM! This dedicated Energy devroom will foster the broad collaboration that is needed to successfully transform global energy systems though open source. Representatives of open source project communities working in the energy space are encouraged to apply to present to the community at FOSDEM by sharing your project, experiences, and thought leadership. ## Call for participation Energy We are seeking presentations related to energy systems and energy usage. Project overview presentations are welcome, however tangible applications and use-cases are preferred, as are stories and lessons for community building in the energy industry. We anticipate topics such as scheduling energy consumption, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, metering and measurement systems, microgrid controls, applications for going off-grid, and more. If you are unsure about what direction to take a topic, please reach out so we can assist you. Talks should be aimed at a technical audience, but should not assume that attendees are already familiar with your project or how it solves a given problem. Talk proposals may cover very specific solutions to a problem, or may be a higher level project overview, particularly for lesser known projects. Recordings of the prior Energy devroom sessions can be viewed at https://archive.fosdem.org/2023/schedule/track/energy/ https://archive.fosdem.org/2024/schedule/track/energy/ and https://archive.fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/energy/ which may be useful examples for preparing your proposal. Please feel free to suggest a duration between 15 minutes and 45 minutes (making sure to account for time for questions) but note that the final decision on talk durations will be made by the devroom managers based on the number of received proposals. We may decide to schedule shorter slots so that more speakers can participate. ## Key dates * 1st December: CfP submission deadline * 15th December: Announcement of selected talks * 31st January: Energy devroom at FOSDEM, you must be available onsite (in Brussels, Belgium) to present your talk. All deadlines are at 00:00 UTC+1. ## Submission process Please submit your proposals at https://fosdem.org/submit before the 1st of December 2025, 00:00 (Europe/Brussels UTC+1). If you already have an account from a previous year, you should reuse it so all recorded FOSDEM contributions are associated with your profile. When submitting your proposal, select 'Energy' from the track drop-down menu. Write the desired duration (between 15minutes and 45minutes) including question and answer into the proposal so we can take that into account when planning. We may decide to give shorter slots so that more speakers can participate. We will not be accepting proposals from anyone who cannot attend the event in person nor video-recorded talks. If you run into issues with your submission, please reach out to us so we can assist you, or contact the program committee at program(a)fosdem.org. Please note that the submission deadline is managed by the FOSDEM team and not by the devroom managers, meaning that after the expiration of the deadline nothing can be accepted. ## Requirements The conference language is English. All content must relate to Free and Open Source Software. By participating in the event, you agree to the publication of your recordings, slides and other content provided under the same licence as all FOSDEM content (CC-BY). By participating in FOSDEM, you are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct: https://fosdem.org/2025/practical/conduct/ ## Please consider volunteering Regardless if you submit a talk, please consider volunteering if you plan on attending the devroom. Every small contribution counts, even just half an hour, so if you want to help make our devroom a success, please let us know so we can stay in touch and plan. ## Devroom managers Current Devroom managers are: Kai-Uwe Hermann Boris Dolley Anna-Lina Helsen Dan Brown Rachel Tipton Sebastian Grüner Erwann Roussy Nicolas Höning Nico Rikken You can use the dedicated email address to contact us: energy-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org Hope to see you at the Energy Devroom!

Lightning Lightning Talks
by Louis Taylor 29 Jan '25

29 Jan '25

Dear FOSDEM attendees, This year we have a session containing multiple short (strictly less than 5 minute) talks, which contain a significant amount more lightning compared to our usual lightning talk track. If you've got a last minute subject you'd like to talk about at this edition, this is your opportunity! To be considered, you'll need to provide slides as part of your submission (in .pdf format). See the news post for more details: https://fosdem.org/2025/news/2025-01-27-lightning-lightning-talks/ Cheers, Louis
