FOSDEM26 Graphics DevRoom
by Luc Verhaegen 02 Nov '25

02 Nov '25

20 years after the first X.org DevRoom at FOSDEM 2006, there will be the 16th Graphics DevRoom at FOSDEM on Sunday the 1st of February 2026. The talk topics of the graphics devroom encompass: * graphics drivers: display, 2d engines, 3d engines, at bootloader, kernel and userspace levels. * media/video drivers: camera/capture engines, hardware media encoders and decoders on all levels. * input drivers for bootloaders, kernels and userspace. * windowing systems (X, wayland, surfaceflinger, others) and window managers. * graphics toolkits (QT, GTK, others). * 3D and Compute APIs (OpenGL, Vulkan, DirectX, others), and 3d and game engines. * Virtual reality hardware and toolkits. * Artificial Intelligence HW acceleration. * Media encode and decode applications. And the tools needed to help configure and run the above. Submission deadline is the 7th of december, but do not count on this date, once the schedule has filled with enough solid talks, we will accept no more. Also, the best slots (afternoon) will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can submit your talk here: https://fosdem.org/submit Since this an open source community event, please refrain from turning in a talk that is a pure corporate or product commercial. Also, this is a highly technical devroom on a conference aimed at developers and advanced users, so please only submit talks on a subject you actually worked on. If you are unsure on whether you can come or not, perhaps you are unsure about corporate sponsorship of your travels (this is FOSDEM, why are you not there anyway?), wait with submitting your talk until you are certain that you can be present. Please put some time and effort in your talk proposal, especially in the title and at least abstract, and your own background. While there is no more printed schedule, your description is what will get people to watch your talk, and will remain online forever next to the recording of your talk. We have a full day at our disposal, which runs from from 9:00 til 17:00, so we can fit anywhere between 8 and 16 talks. With 5 minutes for setup time, and 5 minutes of Q&A, full hour talks are actually 50 minutes, and half hour talks are 20 minutes. Depending on the amount of proposals, we might need to switch to 20 minute talks for everyone. All talks will be recorded and made available as CC-By-Sa or CC-By. The FOSDEM CoC will have to be agreed as well (https://fosdem.org/2026/practical/conduct/) Submission tips: When submitting at https://fosdem.org/submit, you can ignore the "You can enter proposals until 2025-11-16 22:00 (Europe/Brussels), 2 weeks from now." statement, as that is for Main track talks only, and not relevant for DevRooms. Please put some time and effort in your talk proposal, especially in the title and at least abstract, and your own background. While there is no more printed schedule, your description is what will get people to watch your talk, and will remain online forever next to the recording of your talk. On the first page, for track, select "Graphics". Please write your preferred slot length (20 or 50) in the submission notes. On page 2 you also need to provide a code license, this is a free-form field, so write what is appropriate. If there are any issues, just email graphics-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org, where you can reach the team of graphics devroom managers, Arek Hiler, Timur Kristóf and myself, who will also schedule and review your talk submissions. We will be keeping a keen eye on submissions and scheduling, and hope to see you all at FOSDEM. Thanks! Luc Verhaegen.

FOSDEM 2026 will take place at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, on **Saturday, January 31st and Sunday, February 1st, 2026**. If you're building, breaking, or bending open source forensic tools—or just doing weird and wonderful things in the world of digital forensics—we want to hear from you. Whether you’re hacking on memory parsers, wrangling cloud artifacts, reverse‑engineering obscure formats, or just have a good war story from the trenches, this is the place to share it. Funny titles encouraged, demos welcome, and yes—if you’ve ever dropped chain of custody or Locard’s exchange principle into casual conversation, you’ll feel right at home ## What We’re Looking For If your work touches digital evidence, we’re interested. Some clusters to get you thinking: - 🧠 Memory, disk, and filesystems: Volatility plugins, encrypted memory, APFS/ZFS/Btrfs, carving, timelines, damaged media - 📱 Mobile, IoT, and hardware: Bootloader exploits, chip-off/JTAG, oddball devices, custom rigs - ☁️ Cloud, containers, and networks: Ephemeral evidence, hypervisor introspection, encrypted traffic, protocol archaeology - 🔍 Reverse engineering & recovery: Proprietary formats, obfuscated data, deleted files, password cracking - 🕵️ Anti-forensics & detection: Wiping patterns, data hiding, sabotage spotting - 🔗 Scaling & interoperability: Common formats, pipelines, GPU/distributed processing, multi-terabyte datasets - 🤖 ML & privacy-aware forensics: AI for triage/classification, differential privacy, ethical boundaries - 📚 Case studies & war stories: Real-world investigations, lessons learned, examiner-proof workflows - 🧪 Anything else: If it’s open source and forensic-y, we want to hear about it If you think about things like chain of custody, Locard’s exchange principle, or how to make your tool stand up in court—we definitely want your talk. ## Who Should Submit Anyone doing technical work in open source forensics. Whether you maintain a major framework or just wrote your first parser last week, we want to hear from you. First-time speakers, students, hobbyists, and seasoned experts are all welcome. Talks should be accessible to a technical audience, but don’t be afraid to go deep—our crowd loves technical rigor. And demos are very welcome. ## Talk Format Talks are 25 minutes by default. We like them short and sharp. But if you really need more time for a deep dive, say so in your submission—we’ll see what we can do. ## How to Submit We’re using [pretalx](https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2026/cfp) this year—no more Pentabarf nightmares. Your submission should include: - Your name - Short bio - Contact info - Talk title (funny titles encouraged!) - Abstract (what you’re gonna talk about) - Duration (25 minutes, unless you make a case for more) ## Important Dates - 🗓️ December 7th: Submission deadline - ⚠️ FAQ: Is the deadline final? Technically, you can submit as long as pretalx allows it—but talks submitted before the 7th get priority - 📣 ASAP: Announcement of selected talks - 🎉 January 31–February 1: FOSDEM 2026! ## Volunteering FOSDEM runs on volunteers. Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom CfP
by Manolis Ragkousis 01 Nov '25

01 Nov '25

We are excited to announce the Call for Participation for the Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom at FOSDEM 2026, which will take place on Sunday, 1 February 2026 (half-day, morning) at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. The submission deadline for talk proposals is 1 December 2025. FOSDEM is one of the most important free software conferences in the world and is held annually in Brussels. This year’s edition will again be an in-person event, bringing together thousands of contributors and enthusiasts from around the globe. Our devroom welcomes talks exploring languages, systems, and approaches that strive for simplicity, robustness, and security through declarative and minimalistic design. We’re interested in projects and ideas that reduce complexity, minimize hardware and software dependencies, and promote transparent, understandable computing systems. Examples include (but are not limited to) projects from the Scheme/Lisp family, Guile, Lua, Nim, Racket, Raku, Forth, and Tcl, as well as experimental systems that push minimalism and declarative design in new directions. Minimalism and declarative programming are two important topics for this devroom. Minimalism matters. Minimalism allows for smaller systems that take less resources and consume less energy. More importantly, free and open source minimalism allows for secure systems that are easy to understand. Declarative programming is a programming paradigm that expresses the logic of a computation without describing its control flow. Many languages that apply this style attempt to minimize or eliminate side effects by describing what the program must accomplish in terms of the problem domain, rather than describe how to accomplish it as a sequence of the programming language primitives. Finally, in this year's conference we encourage speakers to honor individuals in computing from a diversity perspective. Individuals who have inspired them and whose work is relevant to their presentations. If you are developing or researching systems, languages, or tools that embrace declarative or minimalistic principles, we invite you to submit a proposal. We especially encourage submissions from individuals and communities underrepresented in free and open-source software. If you have something you’d like to share with your fellow developers, please E-mail us! Reach out to pjotr.public456(a)thebird.nl or manolis837(a)gmail.com if you run into any trouble. The deadline for submission is December 1st, 2025. Proposals must be submitted on FOSDEM's conference management system: <https://pretalx.fosdem.org/>. All submissions must go through pretalx: <https://fosdem.org/submit> When submitting your talk make doubly sure to select "Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom" as track (if you don't we won't find it), and include the following information: * The title and subtitle of your talk * A short abstract of one paragraph * A longer description if you wish to do so * Links to related websites/blogs etc To see what a final talk looks like see https://archive.fosdem.org/2021/schedule/event/gnumes/ Let's make this a fun day! = Organizers = - Pjotr Prins (pjotr.public456(a)thebird.nl) - Manolis Ragkousis (manolis837(a)gmail.com) - Bonface Munyoki (me(a)bonfacemunyoki.com) - Jonathan McHugh (indieterminacy(a)libre.brussels) - Arun Isaac (arunisaac(a)systemreboot.net) - Amirouche Boubekki (amirouche.boubekki(a)gmail.com) - Hisham Muhammad (hisham(a)gobolinux.org) - Ludovic Courtès (ludo(a)gnu.org) - GNU Guile, GNU Guix - Jan Nieuwenhuizen (janneke(a)gnu.org) - GNU Mes project leader - William Byrd (webyrd(a)gmail.com) - Oliver Propst (oliver.propst(a)gmail.com) - Julien Lepiller (julien(a)lepiller.eu) = Code of conduct = - https://fosdem.org/2026/practical/conduct/ = Original proposal = - https://libreplanet.org/wiki/FOSDEM2026-devroom-proposal = Important dates = - Dec 1st 2025: submission deadline for talk proposals - Dec 15th 2025: announcement of the final schedule - Sunday, 1 February 2026: FOSDEM! https://libreplanet.org/wiki/FOSDEM2026-devroom-declarative-and-minimalisti…
