Anything special to do?
by Mario Torre 31 Jan '13

31 Jan '13

Hi all! I will be leaving tomorrow and I'll likely not have access to the mails before getting to FOSDEM on Friday evening. Is there anything I need to do to access the DevRoom (ask for keys, come a bit earlier, etc...)? AFAIK the other years we just show up in the room some time before the beginning of the sessions, but I wanted to double check in case anything changed this year. FOSDEM ByteNight @ HSBXL, saturday night
by Benjamin Henrion 30 Jan '13

30 Jan '13

There is gonna be a FOSDEM party at HSBXL like each year: http://hackerspace.be/Bytenight_Bye_Bye_Garage -- Benjamin Henrion <bhenrion at ffii.org> FFII Brussels - +32-484-566109 - +32-2-3500762 "In July 2005, after several failed attempts to legalise software patents in Europe, the patent establishment changed its strategy. Instead of explicitly seeking to sanction the patentability of software, they are now seeking to create a central European patent court, which would establish and enforce patentability rules in their favor, without any possibility of correction by competing courts or democratically elected legislators."

Sojourner (N900) for Fosdem 2013
by Jarek Lipski 30 Jan '13

30 Jan '13

Hi, I have created dirty version of sojourner for Fosdem 2013, because I don't particularly like confclerk's interface. Package was created by repackaging previous version from maemo repository with Fosdem 2013 schedule - in other words I didn't rebuild the package from the source (because I do not know how to do it and didn't have time to investigate), I just added extra files to it and changed the config. Sojourner does not support HTTPS when downloading the schedule, and Fosdem 2013 schedule is only available through HTTPS. To solve this problem I have created HTTP proxy at the following URL: http://fosdem.loomchild.net/2013/schedule/xml and configured the package to use my proxy. Anyways, it seems to work, so I thought other people may be interested. Requirements: - Old version should be un-installed. - Dependencies: python2.5, python-gobject (>= 2.16), python-hildon, python-notify, python-osso, python-dbus Package download URL: http://fosdem.loomchild.net/sojourner_0.2.7_all.deb

Android and WebOS apps
by Raphael Kallensee 29 Jan '13

29 Jan '13

Hi, just a quick note regarding the FOSDEM apps for Android and WebOS: I prepared the WebOS app for this year (new logo, tested with new schedule), it's already released in the HP App Catalog (https://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=net.webpresso.fosdem) The source code can be found here (http://forge.webpresso.net/projects/fosdem-webos) as well as the *.ipk file (http://forge.webpresso.net/attachments/download/33/net.webpresso.fosdem_0.2…) I also worked on the existing Android app, fixed it to work with the new calendar URL and gave it a Holo UI. Michaël Uyttersprot will push the update to the Google Play Store soon (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fosdem) The source code can be found on Github (https://github.com/rkallensee/fosdem-android) the *.apk (signed with my key, so not upgradeable later with the Play Store version) can be found here in the meanwhile (http://forge.webpresso.net/projects/fosdem-android/files) Feel free to add the links to fosdem.org! Best regards, Raphael

Hey all, as Kai rightfully noted... Bytenight is happening on Saturday evening... so it's just a great occasion to do some fun stuff with all the great things you heard... Maybe invite a speaker over to Bytenight to discuss some topics over a beer (and discover he was going already) :) Doors open around 6:30 PM, but we'll be open all night... so feel free to drop in at any hour. Bytenight
by Jurgen Gaeremyn 25 Jan '13

25 Jan '13

Hey all, The regular visitors of FOSDEM will probably know about this event - it's not organized by the people of FOSDEM (they already have plenty on their plate - thanks for doing a great job), but Hackerspace Brussels likes to see you all on the third edition of Bytenight. What's bytenight? Well, obviously at night ... and it's all about bytes (and bites and drinks too, I admit). The first edition we had 8 bit music... last year you could participate in the Marquee challenge (try to get your message on the marquee). Who knows what the crazy guys of HSBXL popped together this year? So don't hesitate to bring along your laptop, you'll bump into plenty of fun people, there'll be great music and drinks... and since there's wifi, you'll know the drill (oh, and by the way... IPv6 is preferred). For the last time, it will be happening in our location in Schaarbeek (Av. Princesse Elisabeth 48) - so watch out in 2014 coz we'll have a new address then... If you don't know your way around Brussels, there's a party leaving at the Hackerspace at the ULB (UrLab - Avenue Buyl - next to the campus) at 6PM. You're all welcome to tag along... Keep in mind, if you're going by car: parking might be a bit iffy... so be smarter and take pubic transportation! (also has the added advantage that you'll be able to drink some of our great Belgian beers!) Want to see some pictures of last year? Have a look here: http://www.hackerspace.be/Bytenight Want more details on the event this year? Have a look here: http://www.hackerspace.be/Bytenight_Bye_Bye_Garage We're not anonymous, we're not legion, But I'm willing to bet we're gonna be legion on Bytenight! Grtz, us all from HSBXL.
