Mobile apps for Sailfish OS
by Neter 26 Jan '20

26 Jan '20

Hi folks, I just saw that there is a list with mobile apps for the schedule on fosdem.org and I know two apps for Sailfish OS that were updated for 2020. Maybe most of the Sailfish users already saw them, but it will be cool to have them on the list. I have installed them, they look good, but I have no experience as a visitor on FOSDEM (I'm one of the bulgarian guys in the video team), so can't tell if they are good enough. 1. FOSDEM QML, a fork of Ubuntu Phone's version for Sailfish. Just the schedule in a pretty list with favorites option and a map of the buildings. Available in Sailfish Store (there's no web version of the store, so no URL, but all Sailfish phones have it). Source code of the app: https://gitlab.com/fabrixxm/harbour-fosdem-qml 2. SailMe, a travel guide for a few cities, one of them is Brussels and there is FOSDEM guide and schedule in it. I can't find its source code. There is SailMe in Sailfish Store, but it is currently outdated. The recent version is in Storeman (unofficial store, gets apps from openrepos.net, maybe all Sailfish users have it) or can be downloaded directly from openrepos.net. Links to SailMe and Storeman at openrepos.net: https://openrepos.net/content/netvandal/sailme https://openrepos.net/content/osetr/storeman That's it. See ya next week :)

offered: hitch/ride from south of .nl to brussels, thu jan 30, morning
by Joost van Baal-Ilić 26 Jan '20

26 Jan '20

Hi, I'm driving a car on thursdaymorning jan 30 from tilburg, .nl to brussels. I'm willing to make a detour and go via e.g. Eindhoven. I can take 1 or 2 hitchhikers with me. On Thu 30 and Fri 31 Brussels is almost as good as on FOSDEM-sat and sun: there is an awesome offer of independent events this year, listed at https://fosdem.org/2020/fringe/ . (My personal highlights are https://ps.zoethical.org/t/why-offdem/2867 and https://wiki.debian.org/DebianEvents/be/2020/MiniDebCamp .) Interested? Please reply by email. Bye, Joost -- Syndicalism objects to a large union treasury [...] If the labor movement in this country were not backed by such large funds, it would not be as conservative as it is, nor would the leaders be so readily corrupted. [...] Large treasuries [...] create class distinctions and jealousies within the ranks of labor, so detrimental to the spirit of solidarity. The worker whose organization has a large purse considers himself superior to his poorer brother [...] -- Emma Goldman, Syndicalism: the modern menace to capitalism, 1913

Little late, since it's almost the date, but... I am looking for accomodation preferably with a FOSDEMer
by Robert Cezary Kujawa 26 Jan '20

26 Jan '20

Hello everybody, I will attend my first FOSDEM this year and one thing I would like to ask you about: Does anybody have some floor to spare for 3-4 nights? Or is there somebody also looking for accomodation so we can join and rent some space together? I'd love to spend this time with people with the same state of mind. If you know about something/somebody please let me know :) Here's my CS profile, just so you know I'm not such a stranger - https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/kujaw Serdecznie pozdrawiam, Robert Cezary Kujawa Sent with [ProtonMail](https://protonmail.com) Secure Email.

€500 cash bounty to release a pig in the community devroom
by George Orwell 21 Jan '20

21 Jan '20

21 January is the 70th anniversary of the death of George Orwell. The copyright on all Mr Orwell's amazing works expires just in time for FOSDEM. Yay! Every free software organization can now have the best code of conduct ever. We can copy this line right out of Animal Farm: All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others Yippee! Don't you love it? Lets publish a Free Software re-write of Animal Farm. In the original story, Mollie is the horse and Napoleon is the pig Now we can re-write it. Let's call the horse Richard and we call the pig mOllie Let's celebrate the preachings from fosdem 2019 community devroom whispering networks. demotions. conflicts of interest. MOLLAMBY. looking for a gender-neutral term for a toxic woman? Mr Orwell gave it to us. Thanks to the Debian Developers who spoke up about the gulags and cyberbullying. OK to Do additional signage at FOSDEM?
by Leslie Hawthorn 21 Jan '20

21 Jan '20

Hello FOSDEM Team, The Community DevRoom will be located in Building U this year - and thank you very much for the larger room assignment! - and we found last year that it was a bit hard to find us. Would it be permissible for the Community DevRoom team to bring some sign stands to set out on the path to help visitors find us? We would, of course, clean up after ourselves and leave no additional trash for the staff and volunteers to deal with, because that's just rude. I was thinking we would buy some of these [0] and change them to say "caution, you're walking past the Community DevRoom" with an arrow towards the room. We would also list the DevRooms in Building U that are taking place on Sunday on the signage because we are loving, inclusive people who want to help everyone out. Please let me know if this would be all right. [0] - https://www.indiamart.com/proddetail/wet-floor-caution-stand-7535174133.html Cheers, LH -- Leslie Hawthorn http://twitter.com/lhawthorn

"Official" FOSDEM event/venue on Saturday
by Bernard Tyers - Mobile 21 Jan '20

21 Jan '20

Hi, I've been asked if there is an "official" (i.e. advertised as part of/connected to) FOSDEM event on the Saturday night of FOSDEM? I'm thinking similar to the Friday night Delerium meet-up (tho' not sure if it was ever/still is official!), however not necessarily located in a pub. Over the years I'm not aware of any, but I thought I should ask. Thanks in advance, Bernard Open Source Design devroom -- Sent from my Android device with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity.

Maps of different floors for Building U?
by Leslie Hawthorn 17 Jan '20

17 Jan '20

Hello FOSDEM Folks, I am making a couple of updates to our speaker info letter and one speaker suggested it would be very nice to have a map of Building U since it is a bit hard to navigate. I have a map of Building U, floor 2, but not floor 5. Is such a map available? Thank you for your help. Cheers, LH -- Leslie Hawthorn http://twitter.com/lhawthorn
