FOSDEM in Kosova? Please Help.
by James Michael DuPont 08 Sep '08

Hello, first of all, sorry about the mass mailing. I have extracted some of your emails from the internet. You all have heard about Kosova/Kosov being the newest State in the world. But many people dont know that there are many young and talented people there who are waiting for an opporunity to learn about GNU. Half of the population is under 30 years old, almost all are computer literate. The problem is that they spend most of thier time playing counterstrike (an online game) and not learning about and working on GNU. We should work together to promote free software in developing countries. Kosova needs to have a linux conference like the fosdem. I need your help : 1. Creating albanian/serbian/turkish translations of the text 2. Finding and sponsering speakers to come 2.1 I want to invite RMS to come and we need to pay for his flight and hotel and expenses etc. 3. Finding and sponsering the location here it will take place. 4. Inviting guest and promoting the event. 5. finding sponsors to print a live GNU DVD http://www.freespire.org/ for the event. I have created a video on youtube to explain my position on this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tQ7A-qNOWk And here I detail my plans for the conference : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBCfqDC_2Sc I would like to invite you to my facebook event that I am using to collect information : http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=23443368809 thank you very much, James Michael DuPont _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces. James Vasile - Replicating the Success of Free Software
by Richard Ibbotson 04 Jul '08

04 Jul '08

Hello there I thought that some of the Fosdem people might like to know about this. Some time ago James Vasile gave a talk at a New York Linux User's Group meeting. Recently he gave a talk over here in England which was called "Replicating the Success of Free Software". http://www.sheflug.org.uk/apr08.html If you would like to hear this presentation there is an MP3 audio recording on this page which you might like to download and listen to. We hope to provide a Fosdem like video of this presentation soon. -- Richard www.sheflug.org.uk

LPI and/or BSDA refund for FOSDEM 2008
by Ulrich Spoerlein 01 May '08

01 May '08

Hi, I read in the sponsor section of the leaflet at FOSDEM, that some kind sponsor will refund the top 3 (5?) participants of the LPI and BSD certifications at FOSDEM 2008. I did partake in the certification, and would now like to know if/how/where I'm eligible for the refund. Thanks! Ulrich Spoerlein -- It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak, and remove all doubt.

Beer SUNDAY night?
by Bernie Innocenti 14 Apr '08

14 Apr '08

[first post was blocked by listserver... trying again] Hello FOSDEM people! I'm relocating to Brussels for OLPC Europe, and I'd like to get in touch with the local FOSS community. I've enjoyed very much the last two FOSDEM beer events, so I thought: why not have a beer together? How about tomorrow night (Sunday) around 20:00 at Delirium. Let me know who can come, or feel free to propose a different time or location. -- \___/ |___| Bernie Innocenti - http://www.codewiz.org/ \___\ CTO OLPC Europe - http://www.laptop.org/

Slides and video's online
by Christophe Vandeplas 09 Mar '08

09 Mar '08

Hi all, Two weeks after FOSDEM and we are proud to publish most of the slides and videos from this year's edition. All of the material from the Lightning Talks has been put online. We are still missing some slides and videos from the Main Tracks but we are working hard on getting those completed too. We would like to thank our mirrors: HEAnet (IE) and Unixheads (US) for hosting our videos, and NamurLUG for quick recording and encoding. The videos from the Janson room were live-streamed during the event and will also come online the coming weeks. We are having some synchronisation issues with Belnet (BE) at the moment. We're working to sort these out.
