T-shirts/hoodies - order TODAY (Sunday) to be in first batch
by Alasdair G Kergon 16 Jan '22

16 Jan '22

See https://fosdem.org/2022/tshirts/ We are placing TWO orders this year. One before the event and one after the event. So if you order today, Sunday 16th January, we will try to get your order produced and shipped within a week or so. For many countries it should have a chance of arriving before FOSDEM. If you order after today, shipping is likely to happen in early March. And if you do place an order PLEASE check the sizes and delivery name and address very carefully at each stage - and contact us if something needs correcting after you have ordered. Please try to supply the address in the same format as it is likely to appear in the databases the delivery companies in your country use to increase the chance of it being delivered correctly first time. Can we not list coordinators in the schedule?
by Geertjan Wielenga 14 Jan '22

14 Jan '22

Hi all, It seems a lot of names other than the speaker are now being listed in the schedules, e.g.: https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/track/kotlin/ I think only the speaker should be listed, e.g., above it's not possible to see who the speaker is anymore. Thanks, Gj

evidence CoC is complete failure
by Daniel Pocock 13 Jan '22

Around the time my father died, a speaker gets up to insult my family and I at FOSDEM She uses cat pictures She does not use my name but it is absolutely clear this other speaker is using FOSDEM as a platform to target me personally. The recent outbreak of a Debian/FSFE mob simply confirm that I am one of the targets of the toxic talk. There is a group of people who appear to be in the know, egging her on, aware of the identities of the people this speaker ridicules with her cat pictures. At the outset, she claims she gained these insights into human relations by attending a course run by Sage Sharp. The talk itself claims to be about CoC, therefore, given the way she behaves, she simply proves the CoC is worthless: https://archive.fosdem.org/2019/schedule/event/community_guidelines/ If this woman can stick her finger in my eye at a time of grief while talking about the CoC then it proves the CoC-mania is a complete failure. The behavior of this speaker and her enablers is just so low. Let me put it in perspective: insulting people at a time of grief is one of the lowest things you can do. Fascist regimes would inflict psychological torture involving grief, making people watch as they killed family members. These experiments on volunteers, experiments on grief have no place in our community. If the CoC justifies experiments on grief then the CoC is a total failure. I'd kindly ask what efforts the FOSDEM team will make to mitigate the damage done by the speaker, for example, to add a caption to the video to make it clear this woman's behavior contradicts what she is talking about. Google knows me as a previous administrator for Ganglia in GSoC and I've met most of the Google people too. However, I can't officially commit to help with the duties of an administrator right now. The problem was just contractual. The contract > was not explicit in giving appropriate weight to the code of conduct > in comparison to the guarantees of academic freedom given elsewhere. This question of how much weight to give the code of conduct is just as critical in free software organizations. As you point out, most people are not employees but the CoC may be balanced against other rights. Notice that the NTEU (union of university staff) made a statement about their decision to fund the law suit. The funding was not automatic. The NTEU also has members who are Jewish. > In other words, your example of Dr. Anderson is misleading. Refering > to it preys on their good intentions, which effectively turns this claim > that the case is relevant into a social engineering denial of service attack. My intention was the opposite. I didn't expect anybody to drop what they are doing and join a CoC discussion. I feel that having a guarantee of academic liberty would be liberating. Under the previous White House CoC, many employees were fired for telling the truth, for example Lt. Col. Vindman. People felt like they were walking on eggshells. It is interesting to look at the first TV interview with Dr Fauci after the change of president / change of CoC, he simply looks happier that he can say what is technically correct even if it is inconvenient for his latest boss. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/01/21/politics/anthony-fauci-trump-biden/index… Regards, Daniel -- Debian Developer https://danielpocock.com
