sincerely thanking RTC developers
by Daniel Pocock 07 Feb '21

07 Feb '21

This year's FOSDEM was an amazing achievement for free software. Many developers in the RTC world have been working triple-overtime even without FOSDEM. While I've contributed to this field for many years, I only contributed to triaging a few small fixes this time around and I'm in awe of what some of my peers have achieved in this space. Some of the best things you can do to thank the RTC developers, across all of the WebRTC, SIP and XMPP worlds: - join the FreeRTC announce[1] list - follow the FreeRTC Planet[2] RSS feed (you can ask to be added if your project is relevant) - some of us started our journey in the amateur radio world. Buy a few RTL-SDR dongles[3] and gift them to students or interns who will be the next generation. list of all talks sorted by time only
by Gijs Reulen 06 Feb '21

06 Feb '21

I could not find a list of all presentations sorted by time only. So I made one and share it in case anyone else is looking for such list: https://rawcdn.githack.com/Gys/fosdem/main/fosdem_schedule.html I have my favorite talks, but maybe those are not as expected or I want to fill time for which I have nothing planned. This list makes it easy to see the alternatives at any moment. Github repository: https://github.com/gys/fosdem

Online Beer Event?
by Steve Mynott 06 Feb '21

06 Feb '21

Has anyone been thinking of a possible online Beer Event? I've been stockpiling Belgium Beer and was wondering if anyone was on Jitsi or similar? -- Steve Mynott <steve.mynott(a)gmail.com> cv25519/ECF8B611205B447E091246AF959E3D6197190DD5

Virtual queuing for food
by Francois Cartegnie 05 Feb '21

05 Feb '21

We'll have virtual booths/stands. Good. Seems we might also have virtual Beer Event. Good. Because that's also part of FOSDEM fun: Maybe we can set up one Jitsi room for queuing together remotely for food. (unsure if we also need to simulate rain as it might ruin your rooms) </joke> -- Francois Cartegnie VideoLAN - VLC Developer

Hi! The first application (FOSDEM companion) listed on the website under 'mobile apps' (https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/mobile/) currently does not work for the 2021 schedule. It has an empty schedule and gives an error message upon trying to refresh. Best, Mathieu

by Jarek Lipski 30 Jan '21

30 Jan '21

Hey Everyone! I am happy to announce that Sojourner conference companion progressive web app has been updated to FOSDEM'2021 online edition. You can access it at the usual address: https://fosdem.sojourner.rocks Apart from browsing the latest schedule, searching & bookmarking talks and sharing bookmarks between devices, this year's improvements include: - Watching video stream directly in the app, with possibility to navigate the programme at the same time - Links to Matrix chat rooms associated with each track - Live page showing what's currently happening - Simple navigation between talks within the same track - Removed unnecessary notifications There's a lot of happening on FOSDEM weekend, and now is the perfect time to read the programme and bookmark your favourite talks! Cheers, Jarek Lipski https://jareklipski.com PS1: Feel free to share your feedback and ideas - there's still a chance they will be implemented: https://github.com/loomchild/sojourner-web PS2: If you'd like to watch some talks from last year and see how the video player looks like, please visit https://2020.fosdem.sojourner.rocks

Dear FOSDEM, Will FOSDEM be uploading to PeerTube or similar? If so then how do I access FOSDEM's videos from a video client such as NewPipe?: https://F-Droid.org/packages/org.schabi.newpipe Best regards, James R. iOS app for the FOSDEM schedule
by Horst Gutmann 23 Jan '21

23 Jan '21

Hi 🙂 I’ve created a little iOS app last year got viewing the schedule. It was also recently updated to work with the current schedule. The app is called FosdemToGo and is available in the App Store. The code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and available on GitHub: https://github.com/zerok/fosdem-to-go It would be awesome if you could include it on https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/mobile/ 😊 Thank you and best regards, Horst
