Meeting rooms
by Pascal Bleser 12 Jan '12

12 Jan '12

This year, we will provide two meeting rooms (aka "BoF rooms") in the AW building. The idea here is that they are provided for unplanned or, rather, spontaneously planned and brief meetups. The planning system is as easy as it gets: each room will have a sheet of paper with a time grid next to it, and it's first come first served. A project or group of people may only take up to an hour per day. We won't enforce that unless someone complains to us, but anyway, keep in mind that a whole lot of projects and people are present at FOSDEM, and as many as possible should have a fair chance of using them if needed. Most specifically, they are _not_ a replacement for a devroom. cheers -- Pascal Bleser <loki(a)fosdem.org> http://fosdem.org/ FOSDEM 2012 ::: 4 + 5 February 2012 in Brussels, Belgium Free and Opensource Software Developers European Meeting

Taking a folding bike to FOSDEM
by Ian Jackson 12 Jan '12

12 Jan '12

I'm considering taking my folding bike with me to Brussels. But I wonder whether there will be anywhere plausible to leave it at the conference venue. It's a Brompton and they're very stealable, so it's not normally a good idea to just lock them up somewhere like you would a normal bike. Any advice, opinion, information or experiences welcome. Thanks, Ian. -- Ian Jackson personal email: <ijackson(a)chiark.greenend.org.uk> These opinions are my own. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~ijackson/ PGP2 key 1024R/0x23f5addb, fingerprint 5906F687 BD03ACAD 0D8E602E FCF37657

Brussels is a city with a rich historical past, and a cosmopolitan present. The free tours will take place both afternoons of the conference. fosdem.org site down
by Benjamin Henrion 07 Jan '12

07 Jan '12

Hi, Fosdem.org seems to be down: =========================== Error 503 Service Unavailable Service Unavailable Guru Meditation: XID: 1293160735 Varnish cache server =========================== -- Benjamin Henrion <bhenrion at ffii.org> FFII Brussels - +32-484-566109 - +32-2-4148403 "In July 2005, after several failed attempts to legalise software patents in Europe, the patent establishment changed its strategy. Instead of explicitly seeking to sanction the patentability of software, they are now seeking to create a central European patent court, which would establish and enforce patentability rules in their favor, without any possibility of correction by competing courts or democratically elected legislators."

Proposition of presentation
by claire corgnou 07 Jan '12

07 Jan '12

Hi all, I'm Clarista, a member of the Mozilla's community, and the author of www.bonjourmozilla.com . I'd like to propose you a presentation I could do during the Fosdem: a presentation about FLOSS and Average Jane or Joe = why we need to reach the whole public, to explain the FLOSS 'philosophy... Because people don't know the ideal that is behind FLOSS. And because "normal" people can do a lot of things to help to spread FLOSS. So I'd like also to give some ideas of easy contributions towards the public. Do you think it would be possible to do this presentation? Maybe I can have a while in the Mozilla's room, but I wonder if it doesn't go further than Mozilla, since it concerns FLOSS in general. Best regards, Clarista

Capacity planning for stand give-aways
by R. Tyler Croy 07 Jan '12

07 Jan '12

I will be traveling from California and bringing most of the Jenkins' stand's give-aways (stickers, etc) with me. How many people should I expect to come visit the stands on the first floor? FOSDEM has grown quite a bit since I was last there so I haven't the slightest idea :) Cheers - R.
