[CfP] Call for Participation to the Matrix Devroom
by thibaultm＠element.io 10 Nov '23

10 Nov '23

Building on last year's success, the Matrix.org Foundation is excited to host a Matrix.org Foundation and Community devroom in person this year again at FOSDEM. Half a day of talks, demos and workshops around Matrix itself and projects built on top of Matrix. We encourage people working on the Matrix protocol or building on it in an open source project to submit a proposal! Note that companies are welcome to talk about the Matrix details of their open source projects, but marketing talks are not welcome. Key dates are: - Conference dates: 3-4 February, 2024 - Matrix Devroom is likely going to be on Sunday afternoon, to be confirmed by FOSDEM soon - Submission deadline: Monday 4th December - Announcement of selected talks: Friday 15th December You must be available in person in Brussels to present your talk. ## Talk Details The talks can follow one of the two formats: - 20 min talk + 10 min Q&A, for topics that can be covered briefly - 50 min talk + 10 min Q&A for more complex subjects which need more focus We strongly encourage you to prepare a demo when it makes sense, so people can actually see what your work looks like in practice. Of course, the proposal must respect the FOSDEM terms as well: > The conference language is English. All content must relate to Free and Open Source Software. By participating in the event you agree to the publication of your recordings, slides and other content provided under the same licence as all FOSDEM content (CC-BY). ## Submitting a Proposal Proposals must be submitted on FOSDEM's conference management system: <https://pretalx.fosdem.org/>. Heads up that this year FOSDEM is not relying on the good old Pentabarf but on Pretalx. All submissions must go through pretalx: <https://fosdem.org/submit> We expect to receive more requests than we have slots available. The devroom organisers will be reviewing the proposals and accepting them based on the potential positive impact the project has on Matrix, as defined in the Mission section of <https://matrix.org/foundation>. If a project proposal has been turned down, it doesn't mean we don't believe it has good potential. Maintainers are invited to join the <https://matrix.to/#/#twim:matrix.org> Matrix room to give it some visibility.

Call for Participation: Web Performance Devroom 2024
by Dave Hunt 10 Nov '23

10 Nov '23

Hello everyone, We are excited to announce that the Web Performance devroom will be returning for FOSDEM 2024! This time the room is a joint effort of Mozilla and Wikimedia Foundation. The web performance devroom will focus on ongoing open standards development and FLOSS projects that support performance of the world wide web. The web performance field is driven by open standards (browser APIs, internet protocols), and relies on many FLOSS tools to monitor, analyze and improve performance. Most conferences about this topic tend to focus on best practices and standards once they’ve been finalized, while the ongoing creation of standards and FLOSS tooling development is rarely talked about. The objective of this devroom is to bring focus to the future of web performance through open standards, and open source developer tools. Here’s some topic suggestions: FLOSS tools to monitor, measure, analyze, optimize backend or frontend web performance Open standards (eg. HTTP/3, upcoming JS/HTML/CSS standards) Academic research on web performance Share your web performance story: Share your challenges and your solutions and what you learned Ethical web performance: Address the balance between performance optimization and user privacy, especially in the context of increasing concerns about data collection practices by large corporations. Please submit your talk proposal by December 1st. We will let you know if your call has been accepted by December 15th. All talks will be in person, and can be 15 to 45 minutes in duration (including Q&A). You can submit your talk proposal at https://fosdem.org/submit making sure to select Web Performance as the track. Best of luck! Dave Hunt (Mozilla) & Peter Hedenskog (Wikimedia Foundation)

CfP for Go Devroom at FOSDEM 2024
by Maartje Eyskens 10 Nov '23

10 Nov '23

Hi gophers, The Go community has been represented at FOSDEM every year since 2014. The year 2024 won't be any different. FOSDEM is an annual conference about free and open source software held in Brussels, attended by over 5000 developers and open-source enthusiasts from all over the world. This year again the Go devroom will be in-person in Brussels on Saturday February 3rd 2024 and we are now looking for speakers. The format will be 25 minutes talk with 5 minutes for Q&A at the end. This is a great opportunity for new speakers, and we will have people helping you craft your talk and slides if so you wish. So if you, or someone you know, are working on something cool that might be good on stage, submit a proposal! Do you want to be one of our speakers? Please submit your proposal using the new FOSDEM Pretalx site <https://pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2024/cfp>. The deadline for submission is December 1st 2022 (00:00 Brussels Time). If you want us to check whether your proposal came through correctly, you can always contact us at go-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org. Do you want to help organize the devroom? We need people to help on the day itself (doors, microphone handover, camera, allaround). But we are also especially looking for many people to help with reviewing the proposals and help with mentoring. Please send us an email to go-devroom-manager(a)fosdem.org if you’d like to help out with this. Any topics related to Go are welcome, with a preference for open source projects rather than product pitches. We value talks about how a given project uses Go rather than how a project written in Go is used. The room will follow Go’s Code of Conduct <https://golang.org/conduct>. Cheers, Maartje Eyskens
