Call for volunteers for FOSDEM video team
by Moray Allan 02 Feb '12

02 Feb '12

The FOSDEM video team are still seeking volunteers to help stream and record sessions. Previous experience working with video and/or audio is useful, but not required -- some brief training will be offered on Saturday morning. You don't need to work all weekend; it's already useful to sign up for a few sessions that you planned to attend anyway. For more information, see this wiki page, which also shows what sessions should have video coverage, and what jobs have been claimed so far: http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/FOSDEM/2012 To quote from that page: > Please email BOTH Wouter Verhelst, wouter(a)debian.org AND CC mvandenborre(a)fosdem.org if you would like to help with video streaming FOSDEM 2012. Also, it's useful if you subscribe to video(a)lists.fosdem.org, so we can contact you easily if needed. > > IRC: irc.freenode.net, #fosdem , Wouter: Yoe, Mark: markvandenborre > > Thanks for volunteering! -- Moray

Keysigning: list of participants now available
by Philip Paeps 02 Feb '12

02 Feb '12

The list of participants for this weekend's keysigning event is now available. If you're taking part in the keysigning event, you should now: o Download the list: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2012.txt o Optionally, if there's a trust path between your PGP key and mine, verify the integrity of the file using the detached signature: http://ksp.fosdem.org/files/ksp-fosdem2012.txt.asc e.g. using: % gpg --verify ksp-fosdem2012.txt.asc ksp-fosdem2012.txt o Verify that your fingerprint as shown on the list is correct. o Calculate the checksums of the file holding the list of keys. e.g. using: % gpg --print-md RIPEMD160 ksp-fosdem2012.txt % gpg --print-md SHA256 ksp-fosdem2012.txt o Print this list of keys with fingerprints on paper. o Write the checksums you calculated in the designated blanks. o Don't lose the list, and bring it with you on Sunday, along with a pen and appropriate means of identification. See you Sunday! - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Keysigning: code on github
by Philip Paeps 02 Feb '12

02 Feb '12

Because someone wanted to hack a feature into our keyserver daemon, I've pushed the code to github. If anyone else is interested in hacking on it, or reusing it for another event... Go wild. https://github.com/ppaeps/fosdem-keysigning Most of that is highly FOSDEM-specific but might be inspiring to others. Or possibly serve as a warning. Yes, FOSDEM really is run by Perl scripts. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Room name typo
by Pascal Bleser 02 Feb '12

02 Feb '12

We had a slight (or not so slight) typo in one of the room names up to now: "U.218A" is actually UA2.118 (aka "Henrion"). Unfortunately, the room name will remain wrong in the booklet which is distributed to all visitors at the infodesks. Sorry for the confusion that might occur. https://fosdem.org/2012/schedule/room/ua2118 cheers -- Pascal Bleser <loki(a)fosdem.org> http://fosdem.org/ FOSDEM 2012 ::: 4 + 5 February 2012 in Brussels, Belgium Free and Opensource Software Developers European Meeting

I attended just for the keysigning party in 2009, 2010, and 2011. You cannot compare this year's weather to just "cold & windy" as the years before. I also remember who chickened out and didn't attend because of the 'cold' weather - dressed in a tshirt - being listed as organizer of the event :-) -- left blank, right bald

Keysigning: venue
by Philip Paeps 01 Feb '12

01 Feb '12

It's been pointed out to me that the OpenPGP keysigning event isn't listed on the schedule. For technical reasons, we can't (easily) list "outside" as a room on the schedule. Like last year and the years before, we will be outside. Sunday at 14:00. Expect the weather to be bad. Not "snow to your groin" bad, but "cold and generally miserable" bad. Dress accordingly and come prepared. The faster we get through the keysigning, the faster we can get back inside. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Senior Reality Engineer Ministry of Information

Name stickers!
by Kai Engert 01 Feb '12

01 Feb '12

Hi everyone, Fosdem is a great place to meet new people. But how do you find the people you are interested to talk to? How do you know if you have a common interest with the people that stand around you? This is a proposal that you wear a badge or a sticker that gives other's a hint which project you're involved with, for example "LibreOffice Localizer" or "Mozilla QA". Because Fosdem is a free conference and badges are expensive, we offer a compromise: Name stickers! We will try to provide a sufficient amount of non-permanent name stickers that you could attach to your t-shirt or jacket. (Disclaimer: According to the vendor of the stickers claims they should not cause any permanent damage to your cloth, we don't take over any responsibility in case something goes wrong, please make use of the stickers at your own risk.) Fosdem organizers have agreed to share the costs. This is also a good reminder that you might consider a small amount to donate for this great conference. You should be able to get your sticker Saturday morning! (For backup purposes, you might consider to bring a bad that you already have from another conference.) Best Regards and see you next weekend, Kai -- Sending me encrypted e-mail: - get my S/MIME cert from https://kuix.de/smime-keyserver/ - get my GPG/PGP key from http://pgp.uni-mainz.de/
