News : FOSDEM Smartphone applications
by info＠fosdem.org 17 Jan '10

17 Jan '10

In an effort to make FOSDEM even more paperless, there is now an iPhone application with the FOSDEM schedule. The application has a few features that make it nicer to use than the paper booklet, such as being able to download the latest schedule, read the descriptions of all the talks or view a map for each event. And best of all, it's not paper! The Maemo and Android apps will be published soon. -------- IPHONE -------------------------------------------------------------- The source code, written by Adam Ziolkowski and Leon Handreke, is available on GitHub [1] under the Beerware License. You can download it from the AppStore for free! The app is available for your iPhone over here [2]. -------- MAEMO --------------------------------------------------------------- Coming soon... -------- ANDROID ------------------------------------------------------------- Coming soon... FOSDEM iPhone App
by Leon Handreke 16 Jan '10

16 Jan '10

Hey everybody! In an effort to make FOSDEM even more paperless, Adam Ziolkowski and me have created an iPhone application with the FOSDEM schedule. Unlike with the paper booklet, you can always download the most up-to-date schedule in case there are some last-minute changes. You can also view only lectures going on or starting soon, which could come in useful. We have also put in a map for each event, showing you where it is. We have released the source on GitHub [1] under the Beerware License, so feel free to adapt it for your own conference. It's quite flexible, being based on the xcal files generated by the pentabarf system FOSDEM uses. You can download it from the AppStore for free, I hope it'll be useful for some people! Cheers, Leon [1] http://github.com/leonbrussels/fosdem

Devrooms inquiry
by Yann E. MORIN 16 Jan '10

Hello All! I've had a look at the list of devrooms on: http://fosdem.org/2010/schedule/devrooms The embedded devroom is not listed there. Does that mean there will be no embedded devroom, or is it just am omission? Regards, Yann E. MORIN. -- .-----------------.--------------------.------------------.--------------------. | Yann E. by Dan Slinky 16 Jan '10

16 Jan '10

Hello, Can somebody confirm if Drupal have a devroom on Sunday, as {fosdem,drupal}.org appear to contradict each other. I was hoping to bring some friends to FOSDEM on the basis they get to play with some of the Drupal community for half the weekend. http://www.fosdem.org/2010/schedule/devrooms http://groups.drupal.org/fosdem http://groups.drupal.org/node/40742 many thanks! -S

FOSDEM/Brussels Google Maps Overlay
by David "Lefty" Schlesinger 15 Jan '10

15 Jan '10

FOSDEMers: I¹ve set up a ³Brussels Places² (had it since last year, actually) overlay on Google Maps that may be helpful to out-of-towners. Got some sights and a bunch of restaurants on there, as well as the conference venue, train stations, a couple of hotels, etc. It¹s open to collaboration, so please feel free to add to it. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&hq=atom ium&hnear=Atomium,+1020+Brussels,+Belgium&msa=0&msid=110114885556079745619.0 004618c8ec6601ab09f3&ll=50.849415,4.357796&spn=0.061235,0.12085&z=13 I expect to be adding to it between now and the conference myself. Hope it¹s helpful. Enjoy!

News : FOSDEM multiplies things by 10
by info＠fosdem.org 14 Jan '10

14 Jan '10

For our 10th edition we multiply by 10. * The Spouses / Partners Tour [1] will have two groups a day, doubling the capacity. * Last year we introduced the FOSDEM bus [2] driving every 50 minutes on Sunday afternoon. And extra bus will lower the waiting time to max 25 minutes. * For the catering [3]: expect a second fries van. So let's halve the queue. * We ask our visitors to apply seat defragmentation [4] to double the capacity of the rooms. As people complain there are too many interesting lectures at once, we will keep the number of talks to max 230 like the previous edition. PS: (There are 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those who don't.) Somewhat OT Perhaps...
by David "Lefty" Schlesinger 13 Jan '10

I am conducting a survey within the FLOSS communities on attitudes toward FLOSS and proprietary software. If you think you¹d like to participate, please take a look at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/F8DG25Q It's not directly related to FOSDEM, per se, but I do want to get the broadest coverage possible of the FLOSS community. Thanks in advance for your participation!
