Running a GSM BTS at fosdem ?
by Sylvain Munaut 12 Jan '11

12 Jan '11

Hi, Back in november/december, I made a request to the IBPT for a special temporary GSM licence. I was originally planning to use it in a talk on GSM but my proposal wasn't selected. Since the authorization has now been granted (and paid for), it'd be a waste not to use it The idea would just to have a single BTS running a small demo network with just A4 sheets around pointing to a website for more infos, no stand or anything. Can this be arranged on short notice ? Who should I talk to for details ? Cheers, Sylvain

Keysigning: please submit your keys
by Philip Paeps 11 Jan '11

11 Jan '11

The keysigning infrastructure seems to have held up well this year. I spent some time today preparing the infrastructure for FOSDEM 2011. Same procedure as last year: if you intend to participate in the keysigning event, please submit the keys you'd like to have signed to ksp.fosdem.org. If you're using GnuPG, that can be easily accomplished with: % gpg --keyserver ksp.fosdem.org --send-key <your-keyid> Please check that your key was correctly submitted by pointing a webbrowser at http://ksp.fosdem.org/. If your key is missing after you submitted it, send me an email and I'll try to find out what's up. Key submissions close Monday before FOSDEM to give me some time to try to remember how I generated the lists again. Get submitting. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list.

Beer event - Friday 4 February
by Philip Paeps 10 Jan '11

10 Jan '11

With about four weeks to go before FOSDEM, everyone should by now probably be thinking about travel arrangements and such. While doing so, remember to keep in mind that there will again be beer on the Friday evening before FOSDEM. If my counting is correct, this will be the tenth "published" edition of this wildly popular pre-FOSDEM tradition. Like last year, we're meeting at the Delirium Café in the centre of Brussels near the Grand'Place. And yes: there will be some free beer again too this year. Be there. :-) - Philip -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list. I have to admit that I drive past Bridgwater quite regularly. Startup Weekend!
by Greg Gentschev 07 Jan '11

07 Jan '11

Hi everyone, For those of you in the Belgium area the weekend before FOSDEM, I wanted to mention that we'll be holding a Startup Weekend<http://brussels.startupweekend.org/> in Brussels. It's a great opportunity to pitch your startup ideas to your peers, get a team together, and see if you can work out a functional prototype and business model over 54 hours. Great way to meet hackers, designers, and marketers, put together a cool <http://www.foodspotting.com/> app<http://startupweekend.org/2010/11/20/mimix-wins-global-startup-battle-week-…>, and perhaps even get funding<http://techcrunch.com/2010/09/13/memolane-raises-2-million-to-become-your-d…>eventually. You can also use discount code fosdem <http://swbru.eventbrite.com/> to get 20% off tickets <http://swbru.eventbrite.com/>. Cheers, Greg

It looks like the FOSDEM group on couchsurfing.org is starting to wake up again, particularly in terms of people looking for couches. If you live near FOSDEM and happen to have a couch available during the event, you may want to offer it on couchsurfing.org. http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=16380 CouchSurfing is a great way to meet new and interesting people.
