Keysigning: last day to submit your keys
by Philip Paeps 01 Feb '11

01 Feb '11

Please don't forget to submit your keys to the keyserver before tomorrow if you intend to participate in the keysigning event. Tomorrow around midnight (CET) the keyserver will be closed and we'll be generating the final list of participants. If you're not on the list, you will not be able to participate. We are too many people to deal with slips of paper from people not on the list. - Philip -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list. by David Stibbe 01 Feb '11

Hi, I'm trying to send my key to the keyserver for the Fosdem keysigning. However, I'm stuck behind a firewall. Is there a way to offer my key to the server through mail? Kind regards, David Stibbe

Giant inflatable tux penguin
by Jasper Nuyens 31 Jan '11

31 Jan '11

Hey all, we have a 3m high giant inflatable tux penguin, that might be an interesting landmark to let people know where fosdem is and what it's about. Is it a good idea to put it somewhere? It does need a power supply so it can remain inflated (it inflates itself in about 5 minutes). I can bring an extension cable of 30m or so if needed and I can put it in order working saterday morning and sunday morning. I think it consumes about 50watt. News : Android, iPhone, Maemo, WebOS ... developers wanted
by info＠fosdem.org 30 Jan '11

30 Jan '11

Last edition there was a FOSDEM schedule application [1] available for almost every phone platform. Following this success we'd like to do a new call-for-development to ask the same thing again for this edition. -------- EXISTING CODE ------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you use the existing code where possible, and don't hesitate to contact the previous developers to see if they are still interested to help you update the application. Platform Source Previous devs Android source [2] Michaël Uyttersprot, Pieter Iserbyt and Christophe Vandeplas iPhone source [3] Adam Ziolkowski and Leon Handreke Maemo source [4] The company Ixonos Oyj [5], with Alexander Bezprozvanny (Advisor), Alexey Vyskubov (PM), Berendova Monika (Dev), Hanzes Matus (Dev), Komara Martin (Dev), Korinek Pavol (Dev), Pavelka Pavol (Dev), Timko Marek (Dev), Uzak Matus (Dev), Fortes Francisco(Dev) WebOS source [6] Raphael Kallensee -------- DATA SOURCE --------------------------------------------------------- Data sources can be any of these: * http://fosdem.org/schedule/xml [7] * http://fosdem.org/schedule/ical [8] * http://fosdem.org/schedule/xcal [9] Be careful. These still contain the schedule of last year, so don't hardcode the content into your application as even the week before FOSDEM some schedule-changes might occur. Coding the links and adding an "sync" or "update" functionality should be the way to go. Any interest in 3XL tshirts?
by Philip Paeps 30 Jan '11

30 Jan '11

We're just ordering this year's tshirts (and they will look at least as nice as last year!) and it strikes me that the geek demographic seems to be getting smaller and smaller from year to year. The bulk of our tshirts are currently L and M where they used to be XL and XXL. Before you ask: by popular demand there will be two sizes of girl-shaped tshirts this year. We're still working from precious little statistical data on these so we can't guarantee we won't run out of them before the end of the weekend. Show up early I say, and even if they're gone let the infodesk know you'd like one so we have better numbers for next year. Having said that: we do get a number of requests for some larger tshirts (3XL and above) every year. When I asked our printer about these a couple of years ago they could not source them (easily) in small numbers. I'd like to try and do some again this year, but need a rough indication of how many we'd need. If you're interested in a larger tshirt, please unicast me an email. I can't promise we'll be able to get larger tshirts this year, but if there is sufficient interest it may be possible. FOSDEM: catering to geeks of all shapes and sizes (or trying to)! - Philip -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list.

IRC technical/social meeting during Fosdem?
by Richard Hartmann 30 Jan '11

30 Jan '11

Hi all, we are trying to get a general IRC meating going. It’s geared towards staff/opers, developers, sponsors and anyone else who has to do with IRC behind the scenes. Tentative planning is for Saturday evening and at this time, we have people from irssi, IRCnet & freenode on board. There's no fixed agenda and everyone is invited to suggest topics of interest, preferably before the actual meating. If anyone's interested, feel free to answer in this thread, off-list or poke RichiH in #freenode-fosdem on irc.freenode.net See you soon? Richard

Shipping stuff to the FOSDEM venue
by Philip Paeps 27 Jan '11

27 Jan '11

All. We just got an unpleasant (and confused) phone call from ULB about an attempted delivery of "stuff" (we don't know what it is or who sent it) for FOSDEM. We'd like to keep our hosts happy. Shipping stuff to them doesn't further that goal. Can I stress again that it is _not_ possible to ship _anything_ to the FOSDEM venue? We cannot take delivery of it, the university can't take delivery of it for us and it can't be stored anywhere. Items shipped anyway are likely to be blackholed. Please Don't Do That[tm]. This has been a service announcement. - Philip PS: If you happen to know who may have tried to ship something, please get in touch with me off-list - own up! I don't bite. ;) -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list.

Greetings
by Dashamir Hoxha 25 Jan '11

25 Jan '11

Hi, I will be in Brussels on 26 and 27 for some business and I may be free on evenings. If anybody will be there during this time and would like to meet me, please let me know. We may also verify each-other's GPG keys, since I will not be able to participate in FOSDEM. Regards, Dshamir

Schedule available on the website
by Philip Paeps 25 Jan '11

25 Jan '11

We're happy to announce that the FOSDEM11 schedule is now available on the website. Note that some devrooms have not submitted their final (public) schedules to Pentabarf yet, so there are are still some holes here and there. http://fosdem.org/2011/schedule/ I believe there's a cronjob (or a sleepless volunteer) running to keep the website in sync with reality. Do let us know if you spot any glitches. - Philip [on behalf of the "spit and duct tape" team] -- Philip Paeps Please don't Cc me, I am philip(a)fosdem.org subscribed to the list.
